Someone boldly asked her, “What were you thinking? She’s so popular now and Nelson’s girlfriend. How dare you?”
The tone was full of regret, as if worried about Callie’s uncertain future.
In reality, it was just a guise to mock and watch the drama unfold.
After speaking, they didn’t wait for a reply and ran off.
Callie coldly smiled where no one could see her, feeling a bit relieved. Thankfully, no one knew she was Mrs. Oconnor. Otherwise, the ridicule would have been overwhelming.
In the parking lot, the man abruptly let go of Alayah, his face devoid of warmth. “Go to the hospital yourself. Someone will arrange everything.”
He glanced at her injury, his eyes cold. “This minor injury won’t even leave a scar.”
The coffee that Callie had thrown in the cold wind couldn’t have been that hot, and it hadn’t covered a large area.
“Mr. Oconnor!” Alayah’s eyes widened in disbelief, panicking. Just moments ago, he had been so different!
Nelson didn’t want to touch her anymore. “Watch your mouth and think carefully whether it’s worth stirring up trouble or getting blacklisted!”
After saying this, he turned and walked away.
He retraced his steps quickly, seemingly in a hurry.
Cora gave her a look. “Miss Soto, please don’t delay your treatment.”
Alayah couldn’t cry anymore; she was just filled with frustration.
Everyone left quickly, and Litzy hadn’t returned yet.
Callie finished cleaning up and felt a bit sore as she stood up. She packed the remaining coffee into a cardboard box, intending to take it downstairs to throw away.
Unexpectedly, as she turned around, the box was suddenly taken from her hands.
The face she saw was as cold and indifferent as ever.
Callie tried to sneer. “What are you doing? Mr. Oconnor, did you deliver her to the hospital so quickly?”
The man didn’t respond. He casually placed the box in the corner of the hallway and said lightly, “Someone will come to clean it up.”
He took a few steps forward and noticed she wasn’t following. Turning back, he saw Callie staring deeply at him. “What do you mean?”
Nelson was dressed casually today, standing against the light, his expression unreadable.
Callie was entirely confrontational; she hadn’t forgotten what he had just done.
He walked closer step by step. Callie sarcastically curled her lips. “I did throw coffee on Alayah. Shouldn’t you be by her side taking care of her instead of coming here to bother me?”
Her sharp words were met with his sudden proximity, his breath on her face. Nelson’s eyes were dark as night. Callie’s back tensed, and she instinctively wanted to retreat but was grabbed by the wrist. She heard him say slowly, “Do you even realize that your tone sounds like jealousy?”
His precise words hit Callie’s weak spot.
Because he was right, she got angry and tried to hide it by rolling her eyes dismissively. “You’re delusional.”
Nelson’s grip on her hand slowly slid down to hold her fingers tightly. “Let’s go home.”
He led her away without giving her a choice.
“You should be going to the hospital now.”
“Nelson, what do you mean? Let go!”
“I’m waiting for someone!”
Callie gave up struggling because as they entered the elevator, he threw out a sentence, “Grandpa came to Paucaster Villa Complex today. Didn’t he call you?”
She was stunned.
By the time they reached downstairs, Callie realized what he meant. Because of his long strides, she had to jog to keep up, looking particularly disheveled. “What does that have to do with me? I’m not going back!”
Nelson suddenly stopped in his tracks, his gaze darkening. “Try me.”
