Callie was stunned. Did he want to see her and Skye fight?
“… Well, there are no bodyguards today, and I’m at a disadvantage.”
Jaquan glanced at her phone. It was an old model with several cracks on the screen, indicating she was a frugal woman. “What are you afraid of? I’m here. The two of us can easily handle it.”
With Nelson not around, Callie didn’t dare to cause trouble, especially with a cunning man beside her. “Forget it. I’ll look into our internal matters further.”
She forcefully took back her phone and noticed that the photo hadn’t been sent due to lack of internet. She felt too embarrassed to ask Jaquan for a hotspot at this moment.
She pursed her lips and said, “Mr. Scott, I think you’re overthinking. I’m solely dedicated to working for Oconnor Group and have no interest in Mrs. Oconnor’s position. Please don’t report me to Mr. Oconnor; I still want my job.”
She spoke sincerely, like any diligent employee would.
Jaquan just smiled faintly, intrigued by her expression.
“Mr. Scott?” She couldn’t decipher the meaning behind his smile.
“Jaquan,” he corrected.
Mr. Russell emerged from the stables, his documents gone, and quickly drove away with Skye.
Callie cautiously suggested, “Shall we leave too? Just drop me at the corner; I’ll take a cab home.” It seemed she was always unlucky, encountering unexpected events whenever she met him.
Jaquan unlocked the car and got out. “I helped you just now; it’s your turn to help me.”
Callie felt herself being led forward, as if into an abyss. “I don’t know how to ride a horse.”
“I’ll teach you.”
The stable was about the size of two football fields and required a card to enter. However, the uniformed staff opened the gate immediately upon seeing Jaquan, respectfully greeting him, “Mr. Scott.”
They got into the arranged vehicle and quickly headed to their destination. The driver said, “Mr. Scott, Mr. Oconnor has been waiting for a long time.”
Mr. Oconnor? Nelson? He was here?
The tension in Callie’s mind snapped. She grabbed Jaquan’s wrist, “What are you planning?”
No wonder he knew Mr. Russell’s route so well; he was coming here to meet Nelson.
Jaquan looked slightly surprised but then became deeply interested. “Are you that afraid of him? He can’t eat you.”
It wasn’t that simple. The key issue was that she and Jaquan appearing together in front of Nelson would be hard to explain.
“I’m an Oconnor Group employee, always hanging out with the Scott Group’s boss. How does that look? Mr. Scott, please understand and let me off.” Callie was on the verge of tears, trying to explain.
“I like the word ‘hanging out.'” Jaquan grasped her hand meaningfully. “You show different sides to Nelson-coy and weak, intellectual and rational-yet with me, you’re always so businesslike.”
“Your progress is too slow. I can help you grow faster if necessary. Want to try?”
Callie didn’t understand and didn’t want to. All she wanted now was to jump out of the car.
