Nelson walked slowly to her, pinching her cheek. “Let me guess, you not only met him but spent quite some time together, right?”
Callie, restrained by him, couldn’t hide it any longer. “I ran into him while doing research at Splendor Estate. It was an accident, I had no choice.”
Nelson’s eyes were sharp, as if nothing could escape his scrutiny.
“Splendor Estate.” Nelson repeated the address, quickly understanding. “South of the city, yes, today is the day.”
Callie’s cheeks gradually turned red, her eyes sparkling, but she seemed fragile at the moment. Nelson released her. “Since you know this was a setup, do you know what Jaquan gained from it?”
Callie coughed violently for a while. “He… I don’t know.”
“Jaquan found my weakness. After Trevon was severely injured, the entire Vankey board had a very poor opinion of Oconnor Group. Several members who supported us switched to Scott Group. I worked hard to win back two of them. Callie, how do we account for this?”
Callie quickly analyzed his words in her mind. If Nelson was telling the truth, it was indeed a loss. “But I know you’ve already found Vankey’s protector. As long as he’s taken down, those board members won’t matter.”
“So what if I found him? Bringing him down isn’t as easy as talking about it. Besides, I wouldn’t have needed to work so hard in the first place.”
Nelson’s eyes were calm as he watched the redness fade from her face.
Callie frowned, speechless for a moment. Then she suddenly realized something and looked up with a smile. “Mr. Oconnor, you just said Jaquan found your weakness. Am I that weakness?”
Nelson withdrew his gaze, looking helpless. He grabbed his coat from the chair and strode out of the office.
Callie quickly grabbed her bag and followed. “Why aren’t you answering? Is it me?”
Nelson didn’t turn his head as she followed him. “It’s the status of my wife, not you.”
“Oh? And who is your wife now? That’s me.”
Callie boldly took his arm. He didn’t move or shake her off and pressed the button for his private elevator.
“Do you have no shame, Callie?”
Callie smiled even more. “Did you give me the Splendor Estate project because you like me?”
Nelson walked into the elevator without responding.
As the elevator doors closed, Callie moved closer to him. “Ignoring me?”
The elevator was large, with mirrors on all sides reflecting their positions clearly. Callie wrapped her arms around his lean waist, sliding down his abs slowly. “Nelson, this is your private elevator. Will anyone watch the surveillance? If we do something here, will anyone see?”
Despite being so busy, he had abs; he was truly disciplined.
Nelson turned his head; their faces were inches apart. A little closer and they would kiss.
His eyes darkened, recalling their last boundary-crossing encounter with a hint of anger. “Don’t push your luck.”
“Don’t you like excitement?” Callie’s hand moved lower along his V-line. The moment she touched his lower abdomen, his body tensed, and he grabbed her hand sharply. “Don’t move!”
For a moment, Callie almost got addicted to it; teasing Nelson was becoming more fun.
Their clothes were disheveled, and their reflections in the mirror looked somewhat wanton. Nelson hadn’t moved the entire time, yet he seemed full of desire.
