Callie picked up the golden card and examined it under the light; it looked like money.
“Mr. Oconnor is really extravagant.”
“Yes, sir treats madam very well.”
Callie smiled faintly, not taking the words to heart. She placed the card against her chin and patted her face. “I never thought I’d experience being a kept woman in my lifetime.”
With the card in hand, Callie visited the beauty salon a few more times. The staff’s attitude improved noticeably upon seeing the gold card. She was moved to a private room for her facials, complete with fruit and other snacks.
This place was frequented by wealthy ladies, making Callie a bit nervous.
“Let me ask you, are all the women in the VIP rooms rich ladies? Callie whispered to a staff member. Since Nelson was willing to spend so much on her, the women here must be of similar status.
The staff member patiently replied, “Some are wealthy heiresses, but most are indeed wives of rich people.”
Callie understood. “Are they all very fierce?”
The staff member forced a smile. “Most of them are quite well-mannered.”
After finishing her facial, Callie went to the restroom before leaving.
Outside, there were elegantly dressed women washing their hands. Their faces were obviously touched up, looking extremely refined.
“Mrs. Blair, I heard Nash lost a few games at the Kenker Hotel and got scolded?” one woman asked curiously.
“Hmph, a gambler will never achieve great things,” the woman called Mrs. Blair said disdainfully while applying cream to her face in front of the mirror.
“Well, you can’t say that entirely. The Blair family only has one son; he’ll have to inherit the family someday. He’ll grow up eventually.”
Callie sat in a toilet stall, inadvertently overhearing the conversation. The names sounded familiar.
The Blair family? Nash? Wasn’t that the young man Nelson met at the Kenker Hotel? She had even mentioned he was trying to get information.
Was the woman outside Mrs. Blair? The stepmother?
“It would be better to have another child when he grows up, but unfortunately, my husband can’t manage it anymore.”
The two women laughed, making Callie blush.
“What about you? Don’t blame me for being blunt, but you’re a later arrival. Who knows how much you’ll get when the old man passes away? Have you made any plans for yourself?”
Mrs. Blair took a deep breath. “Of course, I have plans. Relying solely on the Blair family isn’t enough. If I can’t get it, no one else will either.”
Her tone was clearly calculating. “A few days ago, I met with Vankey’s director and got some evidence…”
Callie’s phone slipped from her hand and crashed to the floor, silencing the conversation outside. She closed her eyes in despair, wishing she could cut off her own hand.
Moments later, under the wary gazes of the two women, Callie slowly pushed open the stall door, feigning calm as she washed her hands and prepared to leave.
Just then, Mrs. Blair spoke up. “Wait a moment!”
Callie’s back stiffened. “Is there something you need?”
“Turn around.”
With an expression of despair, she forced a smile and turned around. “Hello.”
Mrs. Blair was very young, only a few years older than Nash, yet she was his stepmother.
Mrs. Blair crossed her arms and scrutinized Callie for a long time. “Why do you look so familiar?”
The woman behind her also scrutinized Callie and suddenly said, “Isn’t this the woman who caused a scene here the other day?”
Callie’s smile became strained. “Good memory, that’s me.”
