“Did you hear that, boys? This chick is really wild!” Trevon’s laugh was deep and rough as he pointed at a few lackeys in the room.
“Yeah, boss, who would’ve thought we’d have this kind of fun while waiting for the money?”
The noise must have been loud because it woke Joaquin. Groggy, he blinked and saw the woman in Trevon’s arms. On closer inspection, his eyes widened in shock.
Luckily, Callie had been watching him closely. She mouthed a threat: “Keep quiet if you want to live.”
Joaquin shut his mouth, his gaze towards Callie a mix of disbelief and complex emotions, as if he couldn’t believe she had actually come to save him.
“Trevon! The kid’s awake!” The bald man had sharp eyes.
Callie’s spine went rigid, the wine glass in her hand halting midway.
Trevon turned his head and saw Joaquin was indeed awake. He immediately shoved Callie aside, picked up the bloodstained knife from the table, and lifted Joaquin’s chin with it. “You’ve got a tough life, waking up so quickly. Let’s see if you can hold out until your sister comes to bail you out!”
Joaquin’s eyes were bloodshot. Kneeling, he banged his head against the floor in front of Trevon. “I was wrong. Please give me two more days. I swear I can get the half a million!”
“Why should I give you two more days? We’re waiting for your sister to show up today!”
Joaquin glanced at Callie, trembling with fear. “She… she’s lying! She spent all her money on our dad’s treatment. She doesn’t have any money!”
Trevon made a small cut on Joaquin’s neck, and blood trickled out. “Whether she has money or not isn’t up to you. It’s up to her to say!”
“Baldy! Go check where she is! Why isn’t she here yet?”
Joaquin sobbed, his head hanging in defeat.
Callie swallowed hard, adjusting her skirt as she nonchalantly asked, “Trevon, what did this kid do to owe you half a million?”
“Your man here is in the loan shark business.” Trevon tossed the knife aside and made a counting gesture with his hand. “The kid borrowed over ten grand from me, said he’d pay it back in a week. He dragged it out for a month. Took me forever to track him down at Kenker Hotel and bring him out!”
Kenker Hotel, the largest casino in Ylosea. Trevon had the power to drag Joaquin out of there!
As Callie was still trying to process this, one of Trevon’s men asked, “Boss, it’s weird, isn’t it? Why would a place as big as Kenker Hotel hold onto a small fry like him? Took us a lot of effort to get him out.”
“I’ve been wondering that myself. Who knows what kind of trouble this kid got into.” Trevon nudged Joaquin’s chin with his foot. “Hear that? You should thank me for getting you out of there. Stay any longer and you’d be dead!”
“Thank you, Trevon! Thank you!”
Callie couldn’t stand it anymore. She picked up the wine glass again and wrapped her arm around Trevon’s waist, pulling him back to sit down. “Why waste your energy on someone like him? Sit down and enjoy a drink with me. Isn’t that more fun?”
Trevon’s grin widened as he stroked her face. “You really know how to please a man. Alright, come on.”
Callie offered the wine glass, almost bringing it to his lips when someone pushed the door open.
“Trevon.” The voice was lazy and carefree.
The man stood backlit. It may be hard for him to see what’s going on in the inside, but those inside could see him clearly. Callie’s hand holding the wine glass trembled. Bridger Kaiser?!
“Well, well, Mr. Drake, what brings you here?” Trevon immediately pushed Callie aside and went to greet him.
Bridger stepped inside, enduring the pungent smell, and smiled faintly. “Heard Trevon had some action going on at Club Paradise today, so I thought I’d drop by.”
