Callie felt annoyed as soon as he mentioned it. She cupped her face with both hands, thinking, ‘Since he knows about my situation, I might as well tell him everything that happened today.’
After hearing her account, Nelson raised an eyebrow and said, “So, this matter is related to me.”
“How is it related to you?” Callie asked curiously. She hadn’t mentioned anything about him in her story.
“The 200, 000 dollars,” Nelson reminded.
Seeing her starting to worry, Nelson dipped a dinner knife in water and drew an arrow on the table.
“Last year, the Oconnor Group planned to partner with Pran Capital to expand our business. We were rejected outright and they didn’t even look at our proposal. The reason was that the project leader at Pran Capital had ulterior motives and was using the project as a stepping stone for a job hop. Once I found out, I provided evidence of his secret affair to his wife. She caused a big scene at Pran Capital, causing a major scandal.”
“The boss of Pran Capital immediately fired that project leader and replaced him with someone else. Since then, our cooperation has proceeded smoothly and has been ongoing to this day.”
Nelson drew another line from the arrow and looked at Callie, demanding, “Summarize the key point of this incident.”
With his arms crossed, Nelson’s demeanor resembled that of a boss questioning during a meeting, making Callie instantly nervous.
“The key point… the key point is his wife. Without her causing a scene, the Oconnor Group wouldn’t have been able to reach an agreement with Pran Capital.”
“You’re quite smart,” Nelson said with a smirk. “You need to be adaptable when handling matters. If you can’t solve the problem directly, go after the people around your target.”
After saying that, he got up and went upstairs, leaving Callie sitting there in a daze.
‘Nelson just gave me a hint. But how should I start with the people around Yamilet?’ Callie had always disliked Yamilet and didn’t know anyone around her, except Joaquin. But in Callie’s eyes, he was just like his mother.
The next day, Callie sat at her desk, scrolling through her phone. She opened Twitter and found Joaquin’s account, carefully going through each of his tweets.
Litzy passed by, glanced over, and asked, “Who’s that? Why are you creeping on him?”
“He’s my brother.”
“You’re creeping on your own brother? Callie, are you nuts? Not only are you checking his tweets, but also checking who retweeted them?” Litzy was shocked after watching for a while.
“Don’t shout, I’m doing something important,” Callie waved her off, studying the screen intently.
Soon, she clicked on a suspicious account and exclaimed, “Got it!”
It was a woman’s Twitter account, full of selfies. Callie recognized her; she was Joaquin’s girlfriend!
“Who’s that?” Litzy asked.
“My brother’s girlfriend. I couldn’t find her in his followers list, so I had to check each of his tweets. Finally, I found this woman retweeting one of his tweets from four months ago,” Callie explained her detective work proudly.
“You’re amazing. It’s a pity you’re not a paparazzo,” Litzy shook her head in disbelief and returned to her desk.
Callie typed a message to that account.
[Hello, I’m Joaquin’s sister. I need to talk to you. Are you free today?]
Joaquin’s girlfriend, Ximena Spence, had been dating him for three years, and their relationship was stable enough for them to consider marriage.
Ximena’s Twitter was updated daily, so she should notice the message easily.
Indeed, by the time Callie got off work, Ximena replied. [Are you Callie? But I have to work late tonight. Can we meet another time?]
[Today works for me. I’ll go to your workplace!] Callie replied immediately.
She couldn’t wait even one more day.
