When Callie returned to the design department, she looked dejected, clutching her computer. Litzy hurried over, concerned. “What happened? Why did Mr. Oconnor want your computer?”
A shadowy figure appeared near the door of the director’s office. Callie sighed, clearly exhausted. “Mr. Oconnor wanted to see my design drafts, but my computer broke down. He got really mad and scolded me.”
Litzy’s face was a mix of pity and fear. “That sounds intense… I feel like I got scolded by Mr. Oconnor just hearing about it. Poor Callie.”
People nearby who overheard the conversation sighed in relief. From Callie’s explanation, it seemed like Mr. Oconnor wasn’t interested in her and was actually displeased with her.
Callie sat at her desk and sighed again. “I better sort through my documents. If my drafts don’t get approved tomorrow, I’ll be in big trouble.”
The shadowy figure by the director’s office disappeared.
Lorelai couldn’t help but laugh. It seemed nothing had gone wrong. Maybe Nelson had seen the original drafts somewhere, but he certainly hadn’t expected Callie’s computer to be broken.
Without evidence, he couldn’t prove anything.
Feeling much better, Lorelai grabbed her bag and left for the day with a smile.
That night, the Paucaster Villa Complex was brightly lit.
Nelson returned from a social event and didn’t see Callie. He casually asked Nancy, “Where’s Callie?”
Nancy, taking his jacket to hang, replied, “Mrs. Oconnor locked herself in her room after dinner, saying she had a big project to work on. She’s been very secretive about it.”
Nelson frowned slightly, guessing Callie was preparing a counterattack regarding the computer incident.
Callie’s room door was slightly ajar. Nelson paused as he passed and peeked inside.
The slender girl was sitting at her desk, tapping away at her computer and giggling to herself. “Ha… haha…”
Nelson’s frown deepened. He must be crazy, wasting time watching an idiot entertain herself.
The next day, Lorelai’s design drafts were up for review. They needed approval before the contract could be signed with the client.
“How can you all look so tired? You’re ruining the company’s image,” Lorelai scolded as she entered the meeting room.
Litzy rolled her eyes and whispered to Callie, “Unbelievable. She has no real skills but just flaunts her position all day.”
Callie’s expression remained calm as she twirled her pen.
“Miss Ryan, since everyone’s here, can we start the meeting?” Callie asked.
Lorelai glared at her.
The design drafts were displayed one by one on the projector as Lorelai repeated the concepts she had previously shared with Nelson.
“If there are no objections, we’ll prepare to sign the contract.”
Just then, a hand slowly raised. “I have something to add.”
Lorelai nearly ground her teeth. “Callie, what are you trying to pull now?”
“What, can’t I add something?”
Under everyone’s watchful eyes, Lorelai had no choice but to let Callie speak.
“I believe your design concept is too superficial,” Callie said, standing up. “This draft clearly has a deeper meaning. Besides the bold colors, the line design is significant too. What looks like just a logo at the center actually contains the numbers marking the client’s tenth anniversary, a very thoughtful touch.”
The room buzzed with discussions.
