“Callie.”
Callie was still in shock. But then, Nelson walked over to her, grabbed her hand and said, “Didn’t you get off work already? Why aren’t you heading home?”
Callie tried to pull away, but he tightened his grip and turned to the scar-faced man.
“What do you want?”
The man sneered, didn’t take him seriously seeing that Nelson was by himself.
“What, trying to play the hero? Let’s see if you have what it takes.”
With that, the scar-faced man took out a club and swung it towards Nelson.
Nelson squinted his eyes, and caught it just an inch away from him. Then in one fluid motion, Nelson threw out his fist and punched the man right in the face.
There was a dull thud, then the scar-faced man cried out in pain, covering his face with his hands.
It all happened so fast that no one saw clearly how Nelson did it, and they were shocked.
“You… you ambushed me!” The man accused, pointing at Nelson.
But before he could finish, Nelson twisted his arm, and his bones started creaking.
“Next time, choose your target more wisely.”
“Ouch, ouch, ouch…”
The man begged for mercy, and all he felt was pain.
“I’m sorry. I won’t do it again, I swear…”
Only then did Nelson let go of him.
Just then, the company’s security guards arrived.
“Call the police. Let them spend a few days in jail.”
“No, please, let us go!”
But Nelson ignored them no matter what they said. He simply turned to Callie, and asked, “Are you okay?”
Callie nodded woodenly. “I’m fine.”
Then she blinked a few times and said, “Mr. Oconnor, I didn’t know you were so strong.”
She complimented him sincerely before realizing they were still holding hands and quickly let go.
“Thank you, Mr. Oconnor. It’s late, I should head home.” She tried to leave but was stopped by Nelson.
“I think we might be going the same way. Let’s go together.”
Nelson practically dragged Callie to his car. She wanted to protest but swallowed her words when she saw the stern look on his face.
The drive was silent until they reached the garage of the villa.
Callie unbuckled her seatbelt but was halted by Nelson.
“What happened today?”
Callie mumbled and quickly realized what was Nelson talking about, then she answered, “It was nothing really…” She didn’t really want to get in all the rumors at the company with him.
“It’s all resolved now, thanks to you, Mr. Oconnor”
Nelson frowned. “Are you sure it was nothing?”
Callie quickly nodded. “Yes.”
“Give me your phone.”
Callie was confused but still handed it over as asked.
Nelson quickly dialed a number, and very soon a melodic ringtone sounded.
“This is my personal number. Call me if you need anything in the future.”
Callie hesitated, and asked softly, “Isn’t this… inappropriate?”
“What?”
Callie snatched her phone back. “No, it’s fine. Thank you, Mr. Oconnor. Can I go now?”
With his permission, Callie quickly unbuckled her seatbelt and ran inside. Moments later, she heard the car start and drive away.
