Wayne chuckled as he heard her cuss him. He had one hell of a mate, didn’t he?
He reached the bedside and palmed his face. He was tired and it had nothing to do with stress at all. But the news and how Olive reacted to it was what was making his system dull. He had also just roused his wolves with the prospect of finally marking their mate and now tension was very high within him. Another fact, those two were still very angry. He was a mess as he sat.
“Well, it’s all good. We’ll deal with this,” he assured himself.
Few minutes later and his mate was out of the bathroom. She was towelling her body dry and glancing at him with daggers in her eyes.
“I’m hungry,” he said to her.
“So what?” was her reply. He smiled and rubbed his chin.
“So we should get going now. The housekeepers would be waiting. We are already late,” he stated and she huffed and entered the dressing room to wear something quickly. She didn’t have plans to shower but then, she had cried so she needed that. She was feeling really weak already and quite drowsy. If it wasn’t for the presence of her mate around her, and the quick shower she would have fainted already.
After wearing a vintage, floral dress, she stepped out to an empty room without Wayne. She guessed he must have gone to check on the pilot or the helicopter they were using. She walked to her vanity and brushed her hair then applied lip gloss. Wayne returned right at that moment.
“Shouldn’t you be wearing a sweater, babe? It’s going to be cold up there,” he stated.
“Not when I have a temperature heating werewolf beside me. I don’t need a sweater,” she replied and he shook his head. So this was what it was like to have a ‘woman’ in the life of a man. They were such a peculiar sort of creature.
“Let’s go, Olive. Or do you want the members of the Parliament to figure out we’re secretly leaving?”
Olive exhaled and got on her feet from her chair.
“Why exactly are we even running away from them?”
“Not now, Olive. Don’t start that conversation now. We have enough time to discuss about that until our Mating Ritual. And we’re not running away from them. We’re just leaving for some serenity,” Wayne quickly said and rubbed his temples. Olive bit her lips at his expression. His tension, burden and anger was filtering into her system. She walked to him and hugged him, wrapping her arms around his torso.
“I’m sorry, Wayne,” she mumbled and nuzzled her head more into his body. His hands inadvertently wrapped around her back.
“Why?”
“Because I’m adding more pressure to you instead of soothing you. I’m too stubborn,” she said and he cracked a smile.
“Apologize to me properly when we get to Lumpusberg. Right now, sweetie, we have to be inside a helicopter,” he reminded her for the umpteenth time. Finally she laughed and held his hand.
“Let’s go then,” she replied and he led her out. She didn’t see their bags anymore so she guessed he had actually taken them out when she was dressing up.
They took the elevator to the very last floor of the castle before stepping out and using the stairs to the roof. The helicopter was standing there on a helipad and waiting for them. Wayne led his mate delicately as they walked to the helicopter together. They entered and he made her relax on his chest.
After undergoing the necessary precautions, they took off. Olive was looking out of the window at the nighttime of Aspen City. Meanwhile, Wayne just laid his back down and closed his eyes, deep in thought.
There were two pilots in front controlling the heli. He himself could pilot it, but he wasn’t in the right mind to do anything of the sort. Olive finally looked at his face and saw how he looked like he was sleeping peacefully.
“Are you sleeping?” she whisper-yelled.
“No,” he simply answered. She smiled and lifted her finger to his nose, tapping on it gently.
“I feel cold,” she mumbled as they got on the journey proper, flying away from the capital of Balendin Pack.
“I know,” he replied.
“Why?”
“Because you’re not wearing a sweater like I told you to,” came his reply. She chuckled and trailed her finger down his cheek.
“Why do I have a feeling that you’re purposely lowering the temperature?”
“I won’t deny that.”
She smiled and rested her head on his chest again, hearing his heartbeat. She placed her hand on his chest and relaxed too. It was obvious to her that her mate was exhausted. She closed her eyes and slept off on his chest.
