The two then took a taxi to the hospital.
Meanwhile, at the Evans Mansion, Lucas was lounging on the luxurious sofa with a warm smile as he talked on the phone.
“Skylar, what time is your flight? When will you arrive? I’ll arrange for someone to pick you up at the airport.”
“Mr. Evans, something urgent came up at school. I won’t be able to return for a few days. And don’t worry about sending someone; I can just take a cab,” came the sweet voice on the other end.
Lucas chuckled softly. “It’s no problem at all. You’re my future granddaughter-in-law, and I know it’s been a while since you came back. I insist on sending someone to get you. It’s the least I can do.”
The woman smiled and asked gently, “Does Dave know I’ll be coming back soon?”
“I haven’t told him yet. I want it to be a surprise when you come back.”
“Well, I hope it won’t be too shocking for him to see me,” the woman replied, half-joking.
“Not at all! I know Dave very well. He hasn’t had a girlfriend since you left. He’s been waiting for you all these years,” Lucas assured her.
The woman chuckled. “Haha, I see.”
Meanwhile, sitting in the taxi with Leonel, Bianca couldn’t stop thinking about Stacey’s last words.
Stacey’s words kept repeating in Bianca’s mind: ‘Her victory was only because she was connected with the wealthy and powerful man who had helped her.’
No matter how hard she thought, Bianca couldn’t think of anyone powerful who could be behind her success.
So, who was Stacey talking about? Or had she misunderstood something?
Noticing Bianca’s troubled expression, Leonel asked, “What’s wrong, Bianc? You’ve been quiet since we left the police station.”
Bianca looked at Leonel and said, “Stacey said I only won because I’m with a rich and powerful man.” She was straightforward with her brother, feeling no need to hide anything.
“A rich and powerful man?” Leonel grinned and teased, “Bianca, are you seeing two men at once?”
“Leonel!” Bianca gave him a gentle nudge, feeling a bit exasperated.
“Just kidding,” Leonel said, raising his hands in surrender. “I know you wouldn’t do that. Anyway, don’t let Stacey’s words get to you. People like her often accuse others of what they themselves are guilty of.”
“But…” Bianca said seriously, “I’ve had a feeling for a while that someone is helping me secretly. At first, I thought it was you and Mom, but this feels different.”
“Do you think it might be your boyfriend?” Leonel suggested, recalling how Samuel seemed to respect and even fear Dave.
Bianca laughed and said, “Leonel, stop joking around! If it were really him, he’d just tell me. Why would he keep it a secret?”
“Who knows what goes on in his head?” Leonel muttered, sounding frustrated.
“Leonel, he’s not what you think. He promised me he wouldn’t hide anything from me, and I trust him.”
Seeing Bianca’s serious face, Leonel didn’t know what to say. In the end, he just shrugged, thinking that being in love could make someone quite blind to other perspectives.
“By the way, Leonel,” Bianca said, suddenly serious, “did the police mention how the boy was found?”
Leonel thought for a moment and shook his head. “No. I asked about it, but the officers gave vague answers and then changed the subject.”
Bianca’s frown deepened. “I can’t help but wonder if someone other than the police found him…”
“If not the police, then who?” Leonel asked, looking at her in disbelief.
Bianca met his stare with intense eyes. “Maybe it’s the person who’s been secretly helping me.”
When Petter saw Bianca and Leonel coming down the hall, he quickly got up, eager to leave.
“Bianc, I’m glad you’re here. Something came up at work, and I have to go,” Petter said, putting on his coat in a hurry.
Bianca gave him a faint smile and dropped a bombshell. “Dad, Stacey was arrested by the police.”
Petter froze, staring at Bianca in shock. “What? Why?”
Bianca walked to her mother’s bedside, her eyes sad as she looked down at her sleeping mother. “Stacey paid someone to start the fire that put Mom in a coma. She also drowned a three-year-old boy. Even if Stacey avoids the death penalty, she’ll likely spend the rest of her life in prison.”
Petter’s face went pale, and he looked completely shocked.
“How… How can this be? Did the police make a mistake? Stacey’s still pregnant! How could she do something like this? There must be a misunderstanding!”
Even though Petter wasn’t deeply in love with Stacey, he couldn’t believe that the woman he had shared his life with for so many years could be a murderer and arsonist.
Most importantly, Stacey was carrying what he thought was his child. He worried that when the child grew up, he’d be embarrassed by having Stacey as a mother. Petter would also feel ashamed of having a murderer as his wife.
Petter’s mind was racing, overwhelmed by the shocking news. Bianca’s cold voice cut through his confusion. “Dad, I’m telling the truth. If you don’t believe me, go to the police station and ask them yourself. I’ve warned you countless times that Stacey is manipulative and cruel. I told you to divorce her, but you ignored me. Now, with her being arrested, you’ll be facing a huge scandal. How will you explain this to everyone when your wife is in prison for murder and arson?”
Petter’s eyes widened, and he shook his head in disbelief. “No, this can’t be true. I know Stacey. She wouldn’t do something like this!”
“Dad!” Bianca raised her voice, frustrated by his denial. “You don’t really know her! Yes, she’s pregnant, but that baby isn’t yours! Once the baby is born, get a paternity test. Maybe then you’ll believe me.”
Petter’s eyes were red, and he was angry and hurt as he looked at Bianca. His voice was rough. “Bianc, did you put Stacey in jail?”
Bianca’s response was cold. “Yes. Why would I protect someone who almost killed my mother?”
Feeling defeated, Petter slumped onto the edge of the bed, his spirit crushed. He looked at Madison, unconscious and lying in bed, and gave a bitter smile. “Madison, you really have a loyal daughter.”
The fact that his own daughter had sent his wife and stepdaughter to prison was a huge scandal. Petter felt deeply ashamed and humiliated.
Knowing what Petter was thinking, Bianca said firmly, “Dad, I’m telling you one last time that this is the truth. You can blame me all you want, but I don’t regret what I’ve done.”
Leonel, clearly irritated, spoke up. “Petter Scott, you’re not actually going to defend that horrible woman, are you?”
