Coleman suddenly turned his head and saw Kayden standing still with an expressionless face. Kayden casually flicked his sleeve and murmured to himself, “It’s been a while since I killed someone last time. This was just a bit of practice.”
Dr. Rodriguez and the others were all left with their mouths agape, utterly terrified. Kayden had just killed someone, yet he spoke of it so lightly. And to describe killing a man as merely practice? It was simply outrageous.
‘Is society so frightening nowadays? He kills without fear of being caught. Who is that man? Is he a professional assassin? Will he kill us too?’ As these thoughts crossed their minds, almost everyone felt their legs weaken.
The fact that Kayden could kill an armed man with just a fork was terrifying. If he wanted to kill them, it would be all too easy.
Kayden glanced at Coleman’s astonished face and said indifferently, “Don’t worry, I won’t harm you guys. And even if you ask him a hundred times, he wouldn’t tell you anything. Rather than question him, you should consider who your real enemies are.”
“Alright then, thank you for the invitation, but I need to pick up my wife. Goodbye.” With that, Kayden turned and walked toward the door.
He had only taken a few steps when Coleman snapped out of his daze and quickly called out, “Mr. Scott, three days from now marks the 100th anniversary of the Vincents’ arrival in Hiphia. We’re hosting a grand celebration at the Fcon Hotel. Would you do us the honor of attending? Your presence would be the highest privilege for the Vincents.”
Kayden smiled. “Sorry, I’m not interested in such events.” He then walked out the door just as Ben, the owner of the Moon Viewing Restaurant, entered the private room nervously.
Soon after, Kayden arrived at the Imperial Hotel. Earlier, Georgia had called, asking him to pick her up. This was one of the few times she had ever requested that.
Georgia had gone out for dinner with a classmate who had once been a close friend during high school and college. After graduation, Georgia returned to work for the family business, while her friend moved to another city for work, making it difficult to meet up. This rare reunion was only because of a holiday.
In fact, both of them hadn’t contacted each other for a long time but Georgia couldn’t refuse when that classmate suddenly invited her to the party this time.
However, upon arrival, Georgia realized that her friend had ulterior motives. It wasn’t just a simple dinner; several old classmates had been invited, including Jasper Robinson, who had pursued Georgia during college. He was Beckett Robinson’s son.
“Georgia, is this the man you married?” Jasper sneered as he glanced at Kayden, his words dripping with disdain.
Georgia’s friend Lorelei Cook scanned between Georgia and Kayden before remarking, “I still think you two don’t make a good match.”
Then, another classmate named Quentin Byers asked, “Georgia, is this your second marriage? I heard you married a fool the first time. But this man doesn’t look like a fool.”
“A fool?” Jasper asked, looking puzzled. “I never heard about that.”
Quentin replied, “Mr. Robinson, you’ve been studying abroad. I’m not surprised you don’t know it. Three years ago, the famous beauty of Hiphia Georgia Adams married a fool. It was all over the news.”
“So, Georgia, is this your second marriage?” Jasper asked, his face full of surprise. His question elicited laughter from the group.
“Georgia, why you remarried so young? I haven’t even been married once.”
“Everyone has their preferences. Maybe she wants to experience more men. It’s her choice.”
Georgia felt utterly humiliated by her classmates’ remarks. This was exactly why she had avoided many reunions over the years-fear of becoming their laughing stock.
When Kayden hadn’t been there, it was bearable, but as soon as he arrived, she became the target of their verbal attacks.
Seeing Georgia remain silent, Lorelei pressed further, “Georgia, did you really remarry? Why didn’t you invite us to the wedding? And if you did remarry, why settle for just anyone? With your looks and background, you could easily find a wealthy, successful man. Your husband looks so… average.”
Georgia nervously smoothed her dress, feeling helpless, unable to lift her head. Despite the kindness Kayden had shown her, she had resolved to ignore others’ opinions. But hearing these remarks still unsettled her.
Suddenly, Kayden grabbed Georgia’s hand, which made her pause. The sense of inferiority that had plagued her vanished, replaced by newfound confidence. She turned to look at Kayden, who smiled gently and said, “Don’t worry, I’m here.”
He then addressed the group, “My wife has never remarried. She’s only ever had one husband, and that’s me. I’m the so-called ‘fool’ you’re talking about.”
Quentin laughed and pointed at Kayden, saying, “Well, you certainly look the part.”
Jasper clutched his chest dramatically, as if wounded. “Georgia, how could you marry a fool? With your talents, background, and pretty face, marrying a man like this is an insult to me.”
Having failed to win Georgia’s heart in college, Jasper wasn’t about to miss the chance to humiliate her now. A beauty like Georgia would be perfect to be fu*ked in bed, and even if he couldn’t, belittling her would suffice.
Just as Kayden was about to speak again, a young woman suddenly stood up and scolded the group, “Hey, don’t you think you’re going too far? What did Georgia do to deserve this? You’re all adults, yet you’re behaving like teenagers, mocking your friend? So what if she married a fool? That doesn’t mean he won’t recover. Maybe he just had a rough patch, and Georgia helped him through it. She did something compassionate, and you’re turning it into a joke? You claim to be educated, but you’re just bullies.”
The girl speaking was Presley Bell, the one Kayden had run into at the Treasure Jewelry Store. Presley was also a well-known beauty in high school, one of the four school belles, and she and Georgia were like oil and water.
Given their past, everyone expected Presley to join in the ridicule, but they couldn’t understand why she was defending Georgia.
Had the sun risen in the west? Or was she subtly mocking Georgia?
In reality, it was neither. It was just because Presley had once witnessed Jerome Stevens kneeling before Kayden.
