There’s a recliner next to the couch that looks kinda worn, which means it’s been here awhile while the couch looks brand new. Behind the couch is a little wooden platform that’s stained to match the floors with a loveseat sitting on it so it can still see the whole room when sitting behind everything. It gives more seating to the room since they must have people in here all the time.
On the left of the risen couch is a door that Joey moves towards while Lila explains the paintings on the walls that she bought at an art auction a few years ago. Once she’s done, my boyfriend pulls on my hand to take me into the room that I soon realize is his. The walls were a light gray that went well with the dark hardwood floors. His huge bed was on a black platform that was set on the ground with drawers built in. His covers were black while the pillows were covered in white cases and I noticed that he had a black, white, and gray theme going on with the furniture.
The dresser was a lighter gray than the walls with a TV sitting on top facing the bed. There was a white desk on the other side of the room that had two monitors on it along with files filled with papers sitting on top. Two black nightstands sat on each side of the bed with a picture frame on one and I noticed that the picture was of him, his mom, and his dad at some restaurant with nice clothes on. But the thing that caught my eye was the little Polaroid that was tucked into the corner of the picture frame, slightly covering the photo, was me.
When he first came to my house about a month ago, he took a picture that had fallen off my wall and I assumed he put it away somewhere, but it was displayed. Displayed with a picture of two of the most important people in his life and that made me feel special because it was probably one of the last things he looked at at night. The picture was of just me at my friend Jessie’s house after prom last year. I held a pillow to my chest that covered my button-up shirt that had been paired with a suit jacket earlier in the night. My hair covered my forehead with little water droplets hanging from a few strands since it had rained when we were walking home. My eyes were shut as a small smile graced upon my lips.
I looked up at Joey. You kept this ?
Of course I did, he told me, sitting down on his bed as we heard his parents telling Cody and Melissa something in the living room as I explored in here. He picked up the Polaroid and smiled down at it, telling me that he really liked that picture and that’s why he’s kept it all this time.
I looked around the room for things that I might’ve missed and saw a small hallway that had two doors across from each other. I walked over to it, noticing that my boyfriend was following me as to see what I was seeing. One of the doors was opened to show a closet with hanging shirts and folded clothes along with tons of shoes laying on the floor in disarray. The other door showed a huge bathroom that I really, really wanted to bathe in from how cozy it seemed.
The floors were a white tile with black mats laying in front of the bath and showers. The bath was huge as well with a faucet laying in the middle of the tub while the built-ins around it were a dark wood with candles sitting on top. The shower was a walk-in with a white base and a light blue tile on the inside walls. It had two nozzles that would feel like heaven on a cold day if you just wanted to stand under some hot water to warm up. The sink was right next to the door with a double vanity. The counter was the same dark wood color as the bath and the cabinetry was the same. Behind the door was the toilet that was blocked from the rest of the room by a wall that had shelves with towels on them.
So you guys must be rich, right ? Or you inherited it ? I ask as I turn to face him as he leaned against the door frame with his arms crossed, watching me move about.
The quarter house will always be the alphas, which means that whoever I inherit the position to will also have a place to stay here, he says, probably not wanting to mention kids after everything else we’ve already discussed. but we do inherit money each month since this is technically a lifetime job.
How much ? If you don’t mind me asking, I ask, just curious as to how much an alpha would make in this economy.
He thinks for a second before reaching out to take my hand. The reining alpha, meaning me, makes about 7, 000 dollars each month. The reining beta, meaning Cody, makes about 6, 000 while my parents make about 3, 000 since they turned over the position along with Cody’s parents.
So you are rich ?
He chuckles. You could say that, but I don’t. I pay for all the groceries in the house, any repairs that we might need, car insurance, and anything else that might happen.
So you run this house ?
He shakes his head. Absolutely not, I just pay for most of the stuff since I do make the most. My mom definitely runs this house with cleaning, cooking, decorations, anything like that.
Do you have to pay for pack stuff ?
No, we have budgets for that. We have an annual budget that if we go past, then it’ll come out of our pockets if we need anything. We have other budgets, but that can get boring so we don’t have to talk about that, he tells me, walking back into the room with me following him.
Lila walks in to give us a small smile. I’ll start on lunch. I never asked, but is pasta okay with you ?
I nod my head. Yeah, that’s perfect.
She nods her head before walking back out as Joey grabs my hand to follow her. We walk through the living room to come up to the kitchen that’s separated from the living room by the cabinets. The room is lined with white cabinets with a dark marble counter top along with an island sitting in the middle. Lila is filling up a pot with water while Conner sits at the bar with his laptop in front of him.
Joey pulls on my hand again once I get a look at the kitchen and we go out the back door to see a huge yard that’s surrounded with trees. There’s a small patch of laid brick with chairs and a fire pit sitting on top of it right next to the house along with some steps that lead to it. We go down and I notice the way his eyes change colors to it’s electric blue, which means his wolf is more in control, right ?
I squeeze his hand and he looks over at me as I give him a soft smile because the way his eyes light up makes me happy because this is his element. This is where he wanted to be and now that I’m here, I guess this is where he will always. And if I’m being honest, there’s no place I’d rather be.
Kade’s POV
After eating at the dining room table with everyone, I realized how close all of them were by the inside jokes that I didn’t understand. The food was amazing, but the fact that Joey never let go of my hand was even better because for about 20 minutes, those damn sparks ran through my body that brought me ultimate bliss.
We were going to watch a movie, wanna join ? Conner asked his son once we had put our dishes in the sink. I noticed the way Joey was tightening his grip on mine every few minutes and realized that it was his wolf by the way his eyes swirl between hazel and electric blue.
Maybe later, we’re just going to lay down for a bit. It’s gotta be a bit stressful with all of this at one time, Joey says before pulling me to his room. Once the door is closed, he lightly pushes me against the wall next to it as his lips come down to crash against mine.
My arms wrap around his neck as I feel the roughness in the kiss and the way he holds my waist against his. He groans against my lips when he slams my back against the wall and it arches, pushing our groins together even more.
I push him away, suddenly realizing that his parents are just one door away. He looks down at me with his beautiful electric eyes, making me want to continue but knowing that I shouldn’t. We can’t.
He nods his head, walking to his bed while he tries to calm himself down. I notice the way his eyes are constantly shifting between colors, telling me that he was battling with his inner wolf for control. I sit next to him on the very comfortable bed, setting my head on his shoulder.
