Simon POV.
“If you want to kill me, just do it, I’m over threats,” she says with a sigh, whoever broke her spirit I’m going to take my bat to their kneecap, how dare they?
“No threats, no dying, let me show you how a proper coffee is drunk,” I say getting two mugs now, I fixed two new coffee mugs, adding a little bit of cream and sugar to both of them, I’m gonna need something to help wash off the salty coffee out of my mouth.
“Try it,” I say handing her a mug.
“Did you spit in it?” she asks mocking my earlier question.
“No, I didn’t, but I will if you don’t start drinking it,” I warn her, she rolled her eyes at me and took a big sip.
“Good coffee,” Saint says with a smile on her face, only the best for my Saint.
“How long would your face take to heal?” I ask her, checking how many days we’re gonna be housebound.
“My face? Another day if I had blood,” she answers me in a cold voice.
“Good, you’ll get blood tonight, we’ll be back to business tomorrow,” I say, deciding to take the whole day off work, I know Elijah expects to take over the whole mafia in one day, but I’m human and this is how things go, we have to get things ready before we can introduce him as our new partner.
“Fine,” she agrees and takes a seat enjoying her coffee.
“Do you want food with your coffee?” I ask her, and she shakes her head no, she’s going on with coffee and rage then.
“Coffee and rage it is then,” I say making her laugh, she finally laughed, I think I missed that sound, it’s been too long.
“Tell me Saint, why did you run away?” I ask her, wanting to know why she did that, why she left me. Why did she decide to go with AJ, did she have an agreement with Elijah all along?
“I wanted to see the sun,” she answers me in a cold voice.
“And did you see it?” I ask her, did she enjoy the sun, was it worth it.
“Saw it, flew next to it,” Saint answers pointing to her face.
“You got burned,” I say, and she simply shrugs, I didn’t comment any further, I didn’t promise to heal her, and I didn’t promise to keep her safe, we’re not creatures of the day, we’re a creature of the night and the sooner she got used to it, the better.
“Guys, the table is ready,” Lucas calls, as he’s getting two bags of cookies ready to go as our bets.
“Let’s go teach you some poker,” I say holding her hand and walking with her toward the table they had set, it’s meant to be a dining table, but we never use it, we never have too many people that I tolerate enough to have dinner or lunch with them.
“I don’t know how to play this game,” Saint says out loud.
“We’ll teach you how,” I assure her, going over the rules of the game, and explaining to her how it goes.
“First one is free,” I say, the first round we won’t include our cookie chips.
“The Oreo is the lowest bet, and the chocolate cookies are the highest,” Lucas explains the betting system.
“And I’m supposed to win the highest amount of cookies?” she asks us.
“Exactly,” AJ says eating one of his cookies.
“Don’t eat our money, AJ,” Lucas scolds making the saint smile again.
“I didn’t have breakfast,” AJ says with a shrug.
“You know how to play?” Saint asks the traitor.
“Of course,” AJ says with a shrug, he had a history of his own.
“Fine, I think I got it,” Saint says, and we played the first round, she lost very badly, of course, she’s still learning the rules of the games.
“Round two?” Saint says looking at the cards, her whole face shifting as she paid more attention to the cards.
“This time we’re betting on cookies?” AJ says still eating the betting chips.
“Go ahead,” I say giving them permission to start using the cookies, Saint played it safe, she started with just the Oreos, and she lost twice.
“I’m all in,” Saint says a big smile on her face.
“Damn it, my cards are terrible,” I lied, making sure my face was a frown.
“Fold,” Aj and Lucas both decide to fold out of the game, Saint opened her cards happily thinking she’s going to win, she had some strong cards, but not the strongest.
“Lucas, hand me a mirror,” I say, and she looks at me confused as to why I’m asking for it.
“Look at your face, what does it say?” I ask her.
“Smiling?” she asks me, not sure what she’s looking at.
“Yes, smiling, you’re showing off that you got good cards, and what did I say about emotions?” I ask her.
“Not to show emotions,” she repeats like a robot, she looked sad as if she was worried I’m going to hurt her, I might hurt her, I want to hurt her, but not this way.
“Sophia,” I say in a firm voice making her look up at me, her eyes filled with fear.
“If they see you scared they will hurt you, you can’t show that you’re scared, or winning,” I explain to why she can’t show any emotions.
“Okay,” she agrees, I showed her my cards now, I’m the one who won,
“Ohh…” she says seeing that I won, there were no emotions on my face, she thought that I lost and still I’m the winner in here.
“Now, let’s try again, don’t show what you’re feeling,” I say, starting to get the cards ready for another round.
“I don’t have any more cookies,” she says a frown on her face.
“You can some of mine,” I say handing her some cookies back so we can keep on playing.
“I’m out of cookies as well,” AJ whines.
“I’ll give you some with interest,” Lucas says and I laughed at him, he’s about to get scammed for cookies by Lucas.
“Let’s go, Saint, don’t show emotions, keep the mirror near,” I say starting a new round of cards, she didn’t manage to hide her emotions well, but she got better as she kept on trying, and I tried my best not to laugh at the way she’s biting her lip, she had a tell but I’m not going to burse her bubbles, I let her win once, maybe twice just so she won’t be too discouraged to keep on trying.
