Chris Shelby waved his hand dismissively, tired of talking to David. The priority now was to rescue Esther, not to settle scores with the Rhode family. “Grim Reaper!” A roar suddenly echoed. Chris Shelby turned around to see Alice glaring at him furiously. Alice sneered at Chris Shelby, “Grim Reaper, after disappearing for so long, I finally catch you. I advise you to surrender peacefully, or don’t blame me for being rude.”
Chris Shelby was already in a bad mood, and these words infuriated him further. “Cut the crap! Are all you people from the Royal Constabulary useless? So many assassins disrupted the banquet, and you let someone kidnap my wife! If anything happens to my wife, believe me, I will dismantle your entire Royal Constabulary!”
Alice’s face turned extremely ugly at Chris Shelby’s outburst. She gritted her teeth and said, “Grim Reaper, this is Oxwoods, and I am the Chief Inspector of the Royal Constabulary. How dare you speak to me with such an attitude.”
Chris Shelby, full of disdain, replied, “I don’t care if you’re the Chief Inspector. I’m telling you, if my wife isn’t safely rescued, don’t blame me for turning Oxwoods upside down.”
Hearing this, Alice’s expression changed drastically. She knew Chris Shelby’s temperament well; he was someone who meant what he said. If Chris Shelby really got angry, a storm would surely hit Oxwoods. Even as the Chief Inspector, she probably couldn’t do anything about Chris Shelby. Three years ago, Chris Shelby had already proven his capabilities. Capturing him was nothing short of a fool’s dream.
By the time Alice came to her senses, Chris Shelby had already vanished. Alice muttered to herself, “Grim Reaper, don’t be arrogant. One day, I will bring you to justice!”
The next day, the Rhode family’s banquet attack shocked the entire Oxwoods. The assailants were well-equipped, using rocket launchers and helicopters, indicating a formidable force. The incident resulted in heavy casualties among the Rhode family’s bodyguards.
Most importantly, Chris Shelby’s wife, Esther, was kidnapped by the attackers. This caused the influential figures in Oxwoods, who knew Chris Shelby’s identity, to tremble in fear and panic.
Numerous spies were dispatched by these influential figures, all in search of Esther.
Meanwhile, at an abandoned dock in Oxwoods, a group of fully armed individuals stood by the seaside. Shortly, a patrol boat approached. The group boarded the boat.
Soon, the patrol boat disappeared into the vast sea.
After an unknown amount of time, Esther slowly opened her eyes and woke up. She found herself surrounded by the vast sea, her hands and feet bound with ropes.
Where was this? How did she end up here?
Esther was extremely nervous. She remembered going to the Rhode family’s banquet with Chris Shelby. Suddenly, they were attacked by a group of unknown assailants, and she was captured.
“My dear, where are you?” Esther thought, tears beginning to fall. Chris Shelby had always been by her side, protecting her no matter what difficulties they faced. Now that he was not here, Esther felt very insecure. However, she believed that Chris Shelby would definitely come to rescue her.
At that moment, a dark figure appeared before her.
“Who are you?” Esther gasped in shock upon seeing the dark figure.
“Do not be afraid, I am here to protect you on orders. My name is Shadow!” the figure replied.
“Shadow?” Esther had been aware that Chris Shelby had arranged for someone to protect her closely, though she had never known the identity of this person, who had always remained hidden in the shadows.
“Are you here to rescue me?” Esther asked.
“The enemy is numerous and heavily armed, and rescuing you will not be easy,” Shadow said seriously. “But rest assured, I will protect you covertly, and I will contact Mr. Shelby to come and save you.”
“No time to talk now, someone is coming!” With those words, Shadow disappeared back into the darkness.
Just then, a beam of light hit the patrol boat, illuminating it completely. Esther looked over and saw that it was surrounded by blond-haired, blue-eyed foreigners.
A burly man approached and announced, “Mr. Dull, we have captured her!”
Following him, a blond man stepped forward, glanced at Esther, and asked, “Are you sure she is the one we’re after?”
The burly man nodded firmly. “Absolutely, Mr. Dull. According to my investigation, this woman is the wife of the Reaper!”
“The Reaper?” Upon hearing this name, Dull’s face contorted with rage, his eyes flashing with hatred. Three years ago, the Reaper had killed his father-a grudge he had never forgotten.
Just days before, Dull had received information that the Reaper would be traveling from Amerosia to Oxwoods with his wife. Upon learning this, Dull had orchestrated this kidnapping. He had no intention of targeting Chris Shelby directly; he was no fool. If killing Chris Shelby had been feasible, he would have done so long ago. Considering Shelby’s formidable strength, targeting him was impossible.
So Dull had focused on Esther instead. As a woman, she was an easier target than Chris Shelby. Moreover, as Shelby’s wife, capturing her could be used to threaten him.
“What should we do now, Mr. Dull?” the burly man asked.
“Lock her up for now,” Dull sneered.
“Yes!” The man nodded and had Esther locked up.
Meanwhile, Chris Shelby stared blankly at the calm sea surface. It had been several hours since Esther’s abduction. Given the speed of a helicopter, she would have long since left Oxwoods. Locating Esther was proving difficult for Shelby, especially since he did not yet know who had kidnapped her. Regardless of the perpetrator, Shelby was determined to make them pay.
However, with Shadow protecting her, Shelby believed Esther was not in immediate life-threatening danger. For now, all he could hope was for Shadow to quickly relay information on Esther’s whereabouts. Only by knowing who had abducted his wife could Shelby rescue her.
Just then, a small girl in tattered clothes approached. The girl was adorable, with blond hair and blue eyes, resembling a porcelain doll. She walked up to Chris Shelby and grabbed the hem of his shirt, causing him to pause in confusion. What did this mean?
