Mathew POV.
She’s sleeping in her own real bed for three nights now, but tonight wasn’t her best, tonight the little kitten was off, something was off with her, I left my bed and went to hers, I found her turning around, she had thrown all of her toys down on the ground, quiet cries can be heard from under her blanket, maybe she’s cold, maybe Zane forgot to feed her the bottle before bed, or maybe she needs a change.
“Iris?” I say turning the light on, and walking into the room, she froze when she heard my voice, I expected some hissing from her side, when I lifted the blanket up and was met with her red teary eyes, her nose was stuffed and she didn’t look like a happy kitten at all.
“Hey, what’s wrong?” I ask her, sitting down next to her, instead of pushing me off and demanding the boys to be over, instead, she allowed me to sit next to her.
“My tummy huwt,” she says pointing to her stomach, it hurt? I didn’t know what to do, I pulled her into my lap then, petting her back as she whined and groaned in pain.
“Did you go?” I ask her the dirty question, she never allowed me to touch her or hold her, let alone change her, but I don’t mind doing it if she allows me to.
“Nu,” she answers me, cuddling closer, she felt so warm.
I got up with her in my arms and went toward my bathroom, I searched for a thermometer, I tried to get her to open her mouth, but she kept shaking her head no, I left my room and went toward the kitchen, I think we have one that goes in the ear from the last time that Seth caught the flu. Seth is only a puppy and he refuses to open his mouth for the thermometer, or he’d shift to his wolf form and give us a run for our money, but he’s this house puppy, once he’s back, he’ll be either happy or really jealous of the family’s new addition.
“Let me see,” I say checking her kitten ears, placing the thermometer against them as she cried and screamed as if I’m murdering her, but I’m only checking her temperature which was a bit high for my liking, I know she doesn’t talk, but I could guess the cold is affecting her, we should be taking better care of Lucifer’s heart, we want her to be ours and not get sick cause of us.
“You want juice?” I ask her, having some experience with sick puppies, they’ll never take the medicine, but juice mixed with the medicine that they would take.
“Mhm,” she agrees to juice nodding, I got one of the new cups we got her, the one with a sippy cup top, I mixed the juice with the med and gave it to her, she drank the whole thing without much fuss.
“You wanna sleep in my bed tonight?” I ask her.
“And Mathew?” she asks me.
“Kitten, I am Mathew,” I say checking her fever again, was the thermometer broken or something?
“Mathew my gwumpy octopus,” she says, oh right, the toy named after me.
“Yes, Mathew can come as well,” I say rolling my eyes at her, taking her to my bed cuddling with her, holding her tight, I felt my heart starting to heal just a little bit, the old wound was finally starting to close.
Sadly our cuddling moment didn’t last for long, the next morning when she was feeling better, she didn’t want anything to do with me, but I did see her getting dressed for the day, wearing some of the new clothes I got her, along with her new boots, she was ready to go out, but I didn’t see any of the boys with her, the twins were busy with the pack, and Zane wasn’t here, he went to pick Seth up.
I decided to follow her outside, I saw her look around before she started to run, that’s exactly what I wanted her to do, just to run around and enjoy her time, she didn’t have to hide from anyone, she could go full on baby and no one would call her off, not me of course. I saw her run toward the animals that got her attention as the twins told me and now I could see it myself, she went toward the chicken coop only to get chased off by the rooster, she was screaming and running.
I picked her off the ground, scaring the rooster off and saving her from the evil animal, she hugged me tight, I didn’t think I would get her to hug me ever again, but she just did, I think I might be getting the little thing, love, after all.
