Katie POV.
“Where is he going to sleep?” I ask mommy, she’s trying to get me to nap, but I don’t want to nap, I can’t leave her in danger of being with the other guy what if he tries to do somehting to her, I laid down in the bed, and held her hand not ready to let her go.
“We’ll see later tonight little one, now close your eyes,” she scolds me, she’s not very happy with me right now, I have sassed at William since the second he got in, he’s not my friend, I don’t want him to be one.
“I’m not tired,” I say with a yawn, I was exhausted, I run on a schedule and it includes me napping every day, and his presence has thrown off my timeline.
“You’re tired, are you hungry baby? You haven’t fed today yet,” she says, when I was younger I ate a lot more than I do right now, but mommy loves to make sure that I’m always fed and happy.
“I’m not hungry, mommy can you stay here?” I beg her, not wanting her to leave the room, I want her to stay with me.
“I’m here sweetie, why don’t you try and sleep for me, when you wake up we’ll go out,” she says, it’s more of a bribe, if I sleep, we get to spend some time outside.
“Tell him to leave,” I beg her again.
“Katie, I don’t want to be too hard on you, I don’t want you to be sad, but I’m the one in charge here and I want you to give William a chance, I’m not telling you to love him, just give him a chance, for me sweetie,” she says in a strong voice, in other words, tough luck buttercup he’s not leaving anywhere any time soon.
“Fine, go,” I cry out, flipping to the other side, giving my back to her, tears starting to fall down my face, hurt by her words and the fact she picked him over me.
“Kitkat, baby, don’t cry, hey…” mommy says pulling me toward her with a bit of force, placing my head over her chest, humming a song to me, rocking me lightly, back in our first days, back when I first got changed into a vampire, she did this same thing, sometimes she’d cry while holding me others, she just did it until I calmed down enough to fall asleep.
I think I have fallen asleep, I didn’t mean to sleep, but I did, I napped as it’s my habit and my schedule, I woke up after a bit, I opened my eyes very grumpy, I didn’t want to wake up, I usually take longer naps but my worry about William being around mommy got me waking up. I opened my eyes and looked around, I saw that she was still next to me, still holding me, her eyes were closed as well, and she had some tears under her eyes, I looked at her with worry was mommy crying?
“Mommy! Are you okay?” I say worriedly, looking at her.
“What?” she says waking up and looking at me, she yawned and pulled me closer, petting my back and trying to calm me down.
“Are you okay?” I ask her again and she just nods.
“I’m fine sweetie, I think I fell asleep while holding you,” she says and I smile happily, she’s here with me, she didn’t go spend any time with him.
“Where’s Tiger?” I ask her, trying to get up and find my kitty cat.
“I don’t know, let me change you first, then you can go find her,” mommy says with a sigh, getting up and getting me ready for the second half of my day, she did something that got me very upset, she clipped a pacifier to my shirt, she do that at school, but we’re not at school and I don’t want William to see me that I’m a baby.
“Mommy, nu want it,” I say trying to get it off my shirt.
“I don’t want you sucking on your fingers,” mommy dismisses my request, I pouted and tried to walk down on my own, I took every step slowly not wanting to fall and not feeling in control of my body fully.
“She let you walk down alone?” a voice says and I jumped up with fear, stumbling on the last two steps, I looked with anger and hate toward the one who had me falling.
“Kitkat!” I heard mommy yell running down and picking me up making sure I was fine while I still glared at him, he’s the cause of my fall.
“You shouldn’t let her walk down alone,” William says and we both glared at him now.
“The house didn’t come baby proof, talk to your guys,” mommy sass at him the same way I did and I giggled, I loved that, I loved that she too sassed at him.
“I’ll talk to them about it,” William says with a shrug, taking a step toward us, trying to make sure that I’m fine too.
“How about we go out and check on the horses,” he offers.
“My cat,” I whined to mommy.
“Tiger, here lazy kitty,” mommy says getting one of Tiger’s treats, and shaking the bag until the cat comes out of hiding.
She handed me the treat and I fed it to my cat, letting her purr and move her body around me, purring at me making me smile, I loved my cat, I petted her head and called her a good cat.
“Now that the cat is fine, how about the horse ride we promised you?” mommy says, and I nod, standing up again and joining them on the walk outside, we went toward the stables.
William did most of the work, he got the horses out of their stall, got a brush and handed it to mommy and me so we could brush the horse while he took care of the second one, I helped mommy, but I was much shorter than the horse and I kept having the feeling that it’s gonna kick me or eat me alive, so mommy picked me up with one arm and brushed him with the other one.
“Ready to take them for a ride,” he asked us, but most of the words were meant for mommy.
“I haven’t been near a horse for years,” she confesses.
“You used to love them though,” he says, and I look at mommy with a raised brow, she didn’t tell me about her liking horses.
“What?” she asks me seeing my pout.
“You nu told me,” I say.
“I’ll tell you more when we’re back,” she promises me.
“I can hold the little one,” William offers us.
“Nu,” I answer him, holding mommy tight.
“I guess it’s better if you go with him, I haven’t gotten on a horse back in years, don’t want to hurt you,” mommy says.
“But… but…” I say on the verge of tears, I wanted her.
“Tell you what Katie, if you come with me, we’ll have a race and we’ll win, I promise,” he says, now that got me very interested, I wanted to race mommy and win.
“Okay,” I agreed to go toward him, he held me, and placed me right in front of him on the back of the horse, he had a hand around my waist keeping me in place.
“You remember how to do this Eve?” he asks mommy.
“Give me a moment,” mommy says trying and failing to get over the horse’s back.
“You need help?” William asks and she nods, he gets off the horse and leaves up there.
“Don’t worry, he won’t move, just hold these,” William says handing me the reign of the horse, I felt like a very important person or maybe a big person for being on the horse all alone.
“Come here little baby,” William calls mommy helping her get up on the horseback, handing her the reign and giving her a quick reminder lesson on how to ride the horse.
“Thanks, big daddy,” she says with a chuckle at William.
He got back up on the horse next to me but I was so sure that I could do it all alone, maybe mommy can teach me later on when she gets better with riding all alone.
We took off, starting slowly so as not to scare me or make the horses worry, we did a small turn around the barn and then started to get farther away from the house and the barn, going on the roads between the houses, I looked at William waiting for him to go faster, weren’t we supposed to be racing.
“I know I promised a race, but mommy isn’t ready yet,” he whispered in my ear we kept on going slowly, just walking around the town, showing me the whole place.
After an hour of riding, we went back toward the barn, William got off first, helping mommy and getting me down last, he sat me on top of a barrel as he got the horses settled, and my thumb found its way to my mouth and mommy was quick to change it for my pacifier, the same one that I didn’t want earlier.
I looked at them working together, talking and whispering about the old days together, they knew each other from before, and I couldn’t wait to know what was this all about.
After we were done with the horses, they picked me back inside, they started cooking dinner, while leaving Tiger to keep me entertained, I looked at them, I saw the way they both moved in the kitchen, and how they acted so naturally, it took us a while to get to this point, to be this relaxed in each other presence, but they had history, I had the feeling that they did.
“Food is ready, come here little princess,” William was the one to fetch me when the food was ready, placing me in my seat, and handing me my plate, all cut up and ready to eat.
“About the sleeping arrangement, I can take the couch,” William says all of a sudden getting my attention as we sat down to watch some TV before bed.
“I guess that’s the best option,” Mommy agreed with him as did I.
