Evelyn POV.
A freaking farm, I’m going to kill Hunter, I wanted to get away, I wanted to disappear with baby for a while, to get some privacy but the jerk got us working on a farm, of course, he didn’t say it’s work, but I knew what it is, he got us set on one the farms that need someone to be staying in, it’s a job that doesn’t pay much, a trial to keep on cleaning and getting new areas settled again, animals and farming helps, even if we can’t eat anything that we grow, I’m going to grow flowers, that would show Logan.
“Baby, try to nap please, just close your eyes and go down,” I begged her feeling the urge along with her, my little one doesn’t do well sitting in the car seat for too long, I tried to entertain her, talking to her, putting some music on to keep her entertained the whole way, she’s too small to hold a phone or a tablet during the ride, and I don’t trust those to keep her entertained for too long.
“Katie,” I say in a firmer voice, I couldn’t stop and entertain her, although I wished to, I hoped if I used a firmer voice she’d stop crying, but that plan didn’t work either.
I drove for the next thirty minutes with the background noise of KitKat crying, she managed to cry herself into sleep, it’s my fault, I had her going through so much right now, I should’ve taken it a lot easier on her but William presence and the fact that he talked to her got me worried and scared, the look he gave her, she’s my baby girl, I know I promised her that I’d allow her to go once she find the one person she wants, but that person can’t be William, I can’t give her up to be hurt by him the same way I was hurt.
I kept on driving, thinking of ways to kill Hunter, maybe I could make his girl cry and see how he would feel and think of having your baby girl crying out loud, but I didn’t want to make Angel cry, she’s a good little, she’s doing a lot of work when it comes to the school, when little she’s the sweetest and when she switches to her big headspace, she’s on the way to become a lady boss, one who’s the sweetest little girl ever.
Finally, I managed to cross all of the checkpoints, no one is allowed in unless you have a permit and since I had Hunter’s recommendation I could walk right in, but that doesn’t mean they didn’t stop us a million times and asked about what I got in the car.
“As you can see officer I have guns and drugs,” I say with a fake smile on my face.
“And the little one?” he asks.
“Kidnapped and attempted to murder,” I say with a snark.
“She’s dead?” he asks me.
“Depends on the way you’re looking at it,” I say with a shrug, she’s a vampire, she’s not fully alive and she’s not fully dead yet, but I can’t talk about that guy, I’m too close to killing him forever.
“You can pass,” he says, right, if he said no, I’d deal with him first, ask for forgiveness later, or maybe never, he’s an idiot who deserves to die.
“Well thanks, why don’t you go and die,” I say with a smile on my face and keep on driving trying to find the stupid farm that I’m assigned to, I only got to take care of the place and make sure that the system they have in place is still going.
I parked the car and got out, opening kitkat’s door, I could leave her till the end and just take her out when I was done getting everything out of the car, but I worried she wouldn’t be too happy sitting in the car or waking up alone, I picked her up first, getting her out of the seat, picking the sheep teddy she newly got, I opened the door and placed her on the sofa with her sheep, letting her sleep inside, while I started to move our stuff inside.
It took me seven rounds to get everything inside, by the seventh round, I heard a small unhappy voice calling me, and I knew that I made the right desicion bringing her in, I can’t imagine the tantrum she would have thrown if left in the car alone.
“I’m here sweetie,” I call back, she stomps toward me with a big pout and the sheep.
“Mommy, where are we?” she demands.
“We’re in the farm that uncle Logan sent us to, you want to look around?” I ask her with a smile on my face and she nods, I picked her up since it’s easier to carry her around, I got out of the place first, I showed her that we’re staying in a literal farm, I would give her a whole run of the farm and the animals but I didn’t know what we’re going to be responsible for yet.
“Now let’s go see where we’re gonna be sleeping,” I say next, walking back in, I’m discovering the place along with her.
“This is our living room,” I say noticing that there’s a TV that she could watch and spend some time here, it was open space with the kitchen, not very big space, but enough to make cook for the two of us, next we went upstairs, I felt the urge to growl over the fact that there’s no baby gates to keep her in one area, didn’t they count on the fact that I got a baby along with me.
I looked at the second floor, there was only one bedroom, how is this place so tiny, it’s a freaking small, it’s a farm, shouldn’t farm be a lot bigger than this. Thankfully the bedroom was giant, it had a crib for the baby and area for her to play, and a big closet, it’s not that bad, but not that good either.
“You like the place baby?” I ask her, trying to sound happy and hiding the fact that this wasn’t what I had in mind when I wanted to get away but she looks happy.
“Mhm, we go see animals?” she asks me, I don’t like animals much, I like babies, I like the kitten littles, but I don’t real animals, especially farm animals.
“Of course,” I say praying to god that we don’t see any out there, maybe they don’t assign us any of them, I can deal with planting but not animals.
“What do you wanna see baby?” I ask her, walking toward the barn, praying to god and anyone who’s listening that it’s gonna be empty.
“Kitty,” she says, but cats aren’t farm animals but I don’t the heart in me to tell her so.
“Let’s see if we can find a cat,” I say, ready to walk around and ask the neighbours to borrow their cat for an hour or two. We walkd inside the barn and we heard, saw, and smelled horses, there’s only two of them here, nothing too crazy, no pigs or cows at least.
“Mommy, down… down,” Kitkat whines, I was sure if I should or not, but I did, I let her down but stay near ready to hold her back in case the horses go crazy.
“There’s horses baby,” I say keeping an eye on the horses, they had some genetics work done on them to make sure they could live in these areas and not die from radiation, they’re here to help fix this area, and make sure to give birth to new babies to keep the area going.
“Where’s kitty?” she asks with a big pout.
“I’m not sure sweetie, but I’ll check,” I say deciding to give them a call, if we’re staying on a farm we get to have a cat.
“But mommy,” she says on the verge of tears, I didn’t want her to cry, so I picked her up and walked out of the farm going back to the house, I got the house phone, it’s an internal system, I called for whoever was in charge in this area.
“Hello,” the other person on the phone answers.
“Hi, I’m in house three-o-two, we need a cat,” I say.
“Excuse me?” the person the phone says confused.
“I’m here with my little one, and all she wants is a cat, preferably a kitten, can you get us one of those or not?” I ask seeing the looks she’s giving me waiting for the person on the other side of the phone get us the kitten she wants.
“Kitten, are you sure you can take care of it?” he asks.
“Are you sure you ant to stay alive?” I ask in a cold voice, I don’t know why I’m so angry, but I’m on the verge of killing someone.
“I’ll get the kitten over you place in less than an hour,” he says and I sighed happily.
“Thank you, we’ll be waiting for the kitten,” I say with a smile, I saw that Kitkat was jumping happily, she’s getting her kitten.
“Come on let’s eat until the cat gets here,” I say, taking her hand and sitting her on one of the chairs in the kitchen.
I started to put our food away, as she watched me put everything around, waiting for her cat to get over here, I cooked the two of us sandwiches, I do know how to cook, but the hours of drivings had me exhausted. I cut the sandwich down for her, to make it easier to eat, she ate her food but her eyes were locked on the door waiting for the cat.
“Come on baby, you can sit with mommy while I put our clothes away,” I say carrying her upstairs, not trusting her to stay down alone.
“But kitty,” she cries again, she’s big into crying today.
“They’ll call us when the kitty is here,” I assure her going upstair putting her inside the crib for safety reason while I get the rest of the bags upstair, I have clothes always ready in my car and I bought her new ones of course.
