Without looking at Stacey, Bianca replied casually, “Are you feeling scared? After all, you’ve made a lot of mistakes. Who knows when karma might hit you?”
Stacey sneered. “I don’t believe in that. If retribution were real, there wouldn’t be so many unfair things happening. I believe destiny is in my own hands.”
Bianca smiled subtly and said, “Some things will happen regardless of what you believe. I heard a story that if someone dies unjustly, their spirit will wander until it finds the one responsible.”
As they talked, a horror movie played on the screen. It told the story of a woman who died from betrayal, and her vengeful spirit returned for revenge.
Stacey felt a slight shiver run through her.
Marisa’s final words echoed in her mind: “You must save him, or I won’t let you off even if I die.”
Bianca noticed Stacey’s pale expression and asked with a hint of a smile, “Stacey, you look a bit pale. Does what I said remind you of something?”
Stacey quickly recovered, forcing a light smile. “It’s nothing. Bianca, you’re a smart person. You don’t really believe in such ghost stories, do you?”
Bianca shrugged and sighed. “Maybe not. If ghosts were real, how would someone like you sleep so easily? I personally think it’s true that ‘good people often get no reward while the bad seem to get away with everything.'”
Stacey balled her fists and stood up from the sofa. “If you think this is going to shake me up, you’re wasting your time. Stories like these only trick naive girls. Enjoy your movie. I’m heading to my room.”
“Go ahead,” Bianca replied, still focused on the film.
As Stacey glanced back at the screen, she was startled to see a ghost suddenly appear. Scared, she took a few quick steps back.
Without a second thought, Stacey turned away and rushed to her room.
After Stacey closed her bedroom door, Bianca turned around and looked at it with a slight scoff.
Bianca then turned off the TV. She had picked out the movie specifically for Stacey.
That night, Stacey tossed and turned in bed. Bianca’s words and the ghost from the movie kept flashing through her mind like shooting stars. Whenever Stacey shut her eyes, the ghost’s face turned into Marisa’s. Marisa’s last words echoed in her ears, making her uneasy.
Eventually, Stacey fell into a restless sleep.
Stacey was jolted awake by the steady sound of footsteps coming and going.
Her eyes flew open. The room was pitch dark, and when she looked out the window, she saw only a cloudy sky with no moonlight.
Then she heard faint footsteps shuffling by the door, moving back and forth like a whisper.
They seemed to be lingering just outside her room.
Her heart pounded. She nudged Petter, who was sleeping beside her, and whispered, “Petter, did you hear that? There are footsteps outside.”
Petter mumbled, “There’s no footsteps. Just go back to sleep.”
“But I’m sure I heard them. Please listen carefully.”
Stacey kept insisting, trying to wake Petter up to listen. After a while, Petter still didn’t hear anything and said, “You’re just imagining things.”
He then drifted back to sleep.
Seeing that Petter was once again asleep, Stacey decided not to bother him further. Just then, the footsteps outside their room started up again, making her heart race. She carefully got out of bed, quietly opened the door, and looked outside.
Outside the room, it was completely silent.
Stacey went back to bed, still feeling suspicious and unable to sleep.
The next morning, with heavy dark circles under her eyes, Stacey saw Bianca as she came out of her room.
“Oh, Stacey, you look exhausted. Those bags under your eyes are really noticeable,” Bianca said, staring at Stacey with a huge smile on her lips.
Seeing Bianca, Stacey suddenly remembered the footsteps from the night before. She asked sharply, “Bianca, was that you making those noises last night?”
“What are you talking about?” Bianca asked, pretending to be innocent.
“You were the one walking near the door to scare me, weren’t you?” Stacey, exhausted from a sleepless night, was determined to find out what was going on. She stared at Bianca intensely.
“You must have had a nightmare. I stayed in my room all night and didn’t leave,” Bianca said, then went downstairs without another word to Stacey.
Stacey was left standing there, puzzled. If it wasn’t Bianca, who could it be? She felt a shiver down her spine.
Though Stacey didn’t believe in ghosts, she suspected Bianca might be playing tricks in the dark. So, she bought some hidden cameras online and planned to set one up in Bianca’s room to find out the truth.
That night, Stacey heard footsteps again, along with occasional bursts of a child’s laughter.
However, as soon as Petter stirred awake, the noises would suddenly stop.
Stacey tried to investigate several times but never found anyone.
She stayed up all night, her eyes wide open until morning.
The next day, the hidden cameras arrived. Seizing the chance, Stacey quietly entered Bianca’s room and set up a camera in a hidden spot aimed at Bianca’s bed.
That night, when the footsteps started, Stacey quickly grabbed her phone to check the surveillance footage. She suspected Bianca was trying to scare her on purpose.
But when Stacey looked at her phone, her eyes widened in horror. The footage showed Bianca peacefully asleep in her bed.
Stacey felt a chill run down her spine.
Stacey had not only set up a camera in Bianca’s room but also placed several outside her door and in the living area. Despite this, the footage showed nothing unusual.
Still, she kept hearing the unmistakable sound of footsteps near the door.
Though Stacey didn’t believe in supernatural stories, she felt a sudden surge of panic.
She pulled the covers over her head and covered her ears, trying to block out the unsettling noise. She convinced herself it was just her imagination, stirred up by her recent worries.
As she thought about Bianca’s return, memories of Marisa and Madison overwhelmed her, adding to her confusion and fear.
The more Stacey tried to block out the sound by covering her ears, the louder it seemed, as if it was coming from deep inside her own mind.
The next day, Stacey came out of her room looking dazed. Petter, concerned, asked, “Are you okay? You look so pale.”
Stacey quickly replied, “I’m fine… I just haven’t slept well the past couple of nights.”
Petter didn’t push the issue and left for work.
