NALEDI’S POV
“What do you suggest we do now?” Korah sounded worried, “What if it’s a trap? We’ll be putting our lives in danger by walking right in.”
“And we don’t have the option of involving the Alpha in our little mission,” Marcel added.
I took in a deep breath, my brain churning with ideas.
“I understand that going in there is a risk, but it’s one I’m willing to take.” They didn’t look convinced. “If Donna’s mother is in danger, then my guess is they’d take her exactly where her daughter is.”
“Think about it, if they found that she disobeyed them, and had been in contact with someone, which they obviously did, hence the ambush, they would like to punish her in the cruellest way possible.”
Marcel did justice to it. “What better way to punish a mother than to make her watch the suffering of her children, knowing it was her fault.” He sounded angry, and so was I.
“Which brings me to the conclusion.” Korah bored holes with her eyes. “We need to act fast. We need to get into that place sooner rather than later.”
“When do you think we should go?” Marcel asked, and Korah hummed in agreement as they waited for me to speak.
A brief silence. “Tonight.”
Their eyes widened at my words. “What do you mean? That’s totally impossible.” Korah spoke first.
I shook my head. “If we are going to have a chance against them, we have to utilize the factor of surprise. After the day they had today, the last thing they’ll expect is a second attack.”
“They’d be too busy talking about today’s failed mission that they wouldn’t see or expect us coming. Besides, if Donna’s mother and Flora are held there, there is a high chance they’d be in trouble. We might be putting both their lives at risk by delaying in rescuing them.” I pressed,
Korah shook her head, firmly against. “I understand that there is a lot at stake, but we need to understand that going in there tonight is impossible. It’s a death trap. We barely have a plan, and neither do we have strength in number. We can’t do this.”
I looked at Marcel, hoping he’d say something, and see reason with me but he pursed his lips, choosing to remain silent.
“Is that it? You are going to let them possibly die because you don’t think we can pull this off?” Now I was angry. “You know what? You are well in your rights to make a decision but believe me, whether or not you join me, it doesn’t change the fact that I am going in there tonight.”
“My Lady,” Korah sounded worried, “That is a death wish.”
“I’ve never been afraid of death. And if this is my destiny, then so be it.” I got on my feet, “You are not allowed to tell Caellum about any of this, and should you change your mind, meet me there before midnight.”
I stormed off and they followed after me,
“Where are you going? You need to come back to the headquarters.” Korah said from behind me.
“I have a mission, and unless I have performed it, I will not be returning to the Cosa Nostra.”
Marcel looked tired of my bullshit. “Okay, say we agree to this mad plan of yours, and we save them, what next? We’ll still have to face the alpha and we’ll have risked our lives for nothing. He’ll be mad.”
“Leave that to me. First things first. Save Flora and her mother, escape with them in hand and find out what next afterwards.” My gaze switched between them, “For the last time, are you in or not?” I asked, hoping they concede, yet ready to continue if they didn’t.
“I can’t let you go in there alone.” Korah said after a minute of silence. “The Alpha will have my head either way.”
I suppressed a smile. Then turned to Marcus who looked like a goat forced to the slaughter.
“This is a big risk. We could die in this mission. We are all going to lose our lives.”
“The prophet of doom…” Korah muttered and he glared at her.
I stood patiently, waiting for his verdict. “It’ll be irresponsible of me to send you all to your deaths.” I couldn’t stop the smile that drew on my lips, ” Besides, if this doesn’t kill us, the Alpha will do. I’d rather die with people than die alone.”
Korah burst out laughing and so did I. “Thank you.” I mouthed to him, knowing he didn’t have to do it but did anyway.
“So now that’s settled, what’s next?” Korah said, and all eyes shifted on me.
“We plan.” An evil smile stretched on my face. “We’ll need disguises.” I turned to Marcel. “Think you can handle glamouring three people, yourself inclusive?”
He made a thinking look, “Depends. Does it relate to a do or die matter?”
A chuckle from Korah, “You bet,”
“I don’t really have a choice now do I?”
I shrugged, “True.”
With that, we got into the car, and began our journey. From our deductions, if we hit the road, heading west, we’ll get to the said destination an hour before midnight. All through our journey, we planned on the most efficient and quickest way into the camp and threw ideas on the best way to recover the women without raising alarm.
Midway through the journey, Caellum started calling, he called me first, but I didn’t answer, and then he called Marcel, and Korah, ringing us tirelessly until our batteries gave out.
“The Alpha will be pissed,” Korah said when her battery died, “We are going to have alot of explaining to do.”
“That is if we make it out alive,” Marcel said,
Again, the prophet of doom.
“One problem at a time,” I said, shaking off the feeling that something had gone terribly wrong.
Was I right to keep this from Caellum? Would he understand why I needed to do it without him? I took a deep breath, refusing to be wearied by the same thoughts, there was a battle ahead of me, and the last thing I needed was to be out of it.
Lives were at stake, including mine. If I made it out of here alive, then I’ll set things right with him. I hoped in my heart he’d understand and it wouldn’t be too late.
