NALEDI’S POV
I woke up on the wrong side of the bed.
As I prepared for my day, I couldn’t help the unease and outright irritation that lived within me. It seemed like I was overly sensitive, and for some reason, everything was heightened.
For instance, I could hear the men fighting in the field, as well as the clash of plates from multiple buildings. My senses were having a field day. Every one of them were out to play.
And boy did it make me antsy.
I headed out of my quarters, already irritated at Korah for being late. Not that it was that late, seeing we still had a solid fifty minutes before we had to take off, but I just wasn’t in the mood.
Just while I was about to cross the door, Korah appeared, looking wide eyed. “My lady!” She said in a very enthusiastic voice.
She was loud. Too loud.
“I think we should take the other way. House maintenance is ongoing and the Alpha demanded we go the other way.”
One look at her and I knew she was lying. I hated liars. Why the fuck was she lying to me? Or better, what was she hiding?
I moved forward, ignoring the hell out of her, but she double-crossed me and stood in the way. I hated that smile on her face. I was itching to pick up my gun and make it her last.
“We can’t go through this way.” She said again, her voice was stern. Gone was the sweet little Korah.
What the fuck was wrong with today and why was everything upsetting me?
“Unless you want to have a problem with me, I suggest you move.” My tone betrayed my anger, so did my overall facial.
If I had to physically remove her from my way, I would. I just hope it didn’t come to that for both of our sakes. I knew she was going to be a tough contender taking her powers into consideration.
“Don’t make me fight you, my lady.” Korah said, with determined eyes.
I thought it was funny.
“Who are you loyal to? Me or Caellum?” I spat, gauging her with antagonistic eyes. “What is happening out there? What are you trying to keep me from? I thought we were family?”
My last words were spoken with enough sarcasm it could be considered offensive. But did I care? No.
“We need to go through the other way. There isn’t a way for us here.”
“Fine then.” I said in a resignatory tone, “I guess I’ll have to-” I turned around, acting like I was going the other way, and within a second, took out my PSS gun, and pointed right in her face. “Are you going to let me through or do I need to go through you?”
“Naledi.” She gritted, standing firm. “You are making a mistake.”
Boom!
I pulled the trigger. Intentionally missing her by the ear. “I will not miss the next shot.” My tone packed my threat. “Get out of my way.”
She shook her head, and before I could say another word, she got in front of me in a ferocious spin kick, hitting the gun out of my hands.
My wrist was affected by her cheap shot at me. It burned with pain, but it was nothing compared to the rage in my heart. How dare she?
The next minute was characterized by raining blows and cheap shots at each other. Consisting of me trying to force her out of my way by inflicting the most possible hits to knock her out.
It’s been a while since I fought with someone and I couldn’t lie, Korah gave me a run for my money. Soon enough, we were both held in a headlock, our faces bleeding as we fought tirelessly.
Holding a bloodied smile, I taunted her. “Aren’t you a witch? I’d think you would get me out of the way without a moment’s thought. What’s keeping you from using a spell?”
She didn’t answer, and my smile widened. “Ah yes! You can’t. You can’t blow off your fucking facade of being a wolf. You don’t want others to find out what you are. Obedient to the fucking Alpha, aren’t you?”
I must have crossed a line. Because Korah’s eyes turned red. The next minute, I was on fire. My eyes widened as I unsuccessfully tried to put it off.
“Turn it off!” I yelled, dancing like a drunk kangaroo in an attempt to put it out myself. I didn’t know when I got to the door and pushed it open, stumbling into the living room.
“No!” Korah shouted and the fire went off, while she tried and failed to reach me.
I fell to the ground, catching my breath on the floor. Remind me never to get on a witch’s nerve. Suddenly, I felt three times more conscious and felt people’s eyes on me.
I sat up and met the panicked gaze of Korah, who looked like she was going to shit in her pants anytime soon. Her eyes seemed petrified as she gazed past me.
I guessed there was something or someone behind me that was capable of eliciting such a response from someone ready to burn me to crisp a few seconds ago.
My head turned and my eyes met the pairs seated in the living room. The first eyes I caught were Caellum’s. As always, he was not the happiest looking. In fact, he looked like he had a stick in his anus that no one else knew about.
Another look at the person beside him and I felt my heart cut. It was Alek. Alpha Alek Volkov. My former employer. He looked amused, but there was something else in his eyes. Something I couldn’t place my hands on.
The next person was a woman. She had a confident air around her, put together in a black two-piece and heels that were to die for. How did I know? I was fucking looking at it.
Her legs were fair and I suddenly felt paled compared to her. Why was I still seated on the floor? Quickly, I got up to the floor, knowing I looked anything but presentable with my bloodied face and possibly black eye.
Thank you, Korah.
My eyes drifted to the last man. He was an older man. The first thing I noticed was his striking resemblance to Caellum. He was attractive for an older man and the aura of evil around him was unmistakable.
I couldn’t shake off the thought of who I thought he was. Just when I was ready to voice my absurd thoughts, the man spoke first, managing to confirm my thoughts with his first words.
“I didn’t know you kept women in the Alpha’s building, Son.”
