NALEDI’S POV
I woke up to a toe-curling feeling of Caellum between my legs.
This could never get old. I moaned, living in pure bliss as I enjoyed my little morning treat. I didn’t mind waking up like this every day.
I went over the edge and soon I was ready to start my day. Did I mention I slept like a baby? After the dinner, I made good of my words to get drunk out of my mind and somehow stumbled back into bed with Caellum.
No regrets there.
Today, however, was a new day, and one that required a lot more than twisting under the covers with Caellum. He made that abundantly clear when he stopped me from taking care of his morning wood, saying something along the lines of unless I want to spend the next several hours getting down and dirty with him, it’s a no.
Even as I prepared for the morning meeting he informed me of, I couldn’t wrap my head around why spending the next several hours down and dirty with him was not a good idea.
Either way, I had a lot to do according to Caellum, and seeing he was the boss around here, I figured I better get my ass moving. Caellum left in the early hours of the day after ensuring I had my morning treat.
He told me he had to go and Korah was going to bring me to work after we had breakfast. And seeing it was a whole eight o’clock and Korah was yet to get to me, I figured I’d rather get to her after satisfying the cravings of my stomach.
Thankfully, I caught her on the way, and when she saw me, a sorry expression caught her face. “I’m so sorry! I am such an idiot, I thought you were in your quarters and all these while I waited outside. When I finally decided you were taking too long to come out, I tried the door and realised it’s been locked all the while.”
She looked pained, “My silly ass didn’t think that you’d be in the Alpha’s quarters until it was way past time.”
I fought the urge to laugh while she beat herself up. “It’s alright. I was going to get breakfast. Join me.”
She didn’t need to be told twice and immediately, we left for the kitchen. Korah wasted no time picking up our food and we ate at one of the tables, watching people breeze in and out of the dining, resuming their duties.
The Cosa Nostra pack house had a vibe to it. A sense of family coated the environment and it was hard not to lean into it when around such an atmosphere.
“Are you ready?” Korah asked and I nodded, having finished my food already and waiting for her to round up.
Without wasting time, Korah led the way and soon we were out of the main building and heading out back. I passed the field where some males practised their skills, and I was reminded of the last time I came here and how it ended.
Surprisingly, this time around, the men were more respectful towards me. Some even waved at us, hooting as we passed. No doubt, a result credited to my new title as the Alpha’s mate and the one who took down Luka Donatello.
“Why is it such a big deal?” I didn’t know when I voiced my thoughts.
“What?” Korah gave me her full attention.
“Why is it such a big deal that we took down Luka Donatello?” We continued our trek as I explained, “Is it weird that I struggle to understand why it’s such a big deal to Caellum that Luka Donatello was brought down? Why did he even care about him?”
“You might not know but the Alpha and the entire pack have zero tolerance for people who abuse women or children.”
That bit was clear to me by now.
“Why? Why is he so averse to it? He runs a mafia. It wouldn’t be shocking to know he has dabbled between-”
“No. The Alpha has never dabbled in such. The business of the mafia is not the best, but I assure you we never go to such lengths. Not any more.”
For some reason, my brain decided to forget the entire sentence and latch on the last phrase of her answer.
“Not any more?”
Korah looked like a deer in headlights. It was clear she hadn’t hoped for the words to slip but it did anyway. Now she was going to have to answer or so help me God I’d take it to Caellum myself.
“Before Caellum overthrew his father.” As soon as she uttered the words, I felt a feeling of rage fill my heart. “The former alpha had been a terror, his reign was not only characterized by senseless killings but horrible cases of human trafficking.”
“Being a werewolf, he never had regard for human life and when he found he could use them as another means of making money, he walked right in. Introducing the terrible business to the underworld and growing his influence.”
“The former Alpha perpetuated a lot of evil, even to the members of this pack, his late wife and his own son. When Alpha Caellum came of age, he challenged his father, fought him in a battle and won.”
“After his victory, he stripped his father of all his power, sent him off to God knows where and built an impenetrable fort, community and business. Knowing the scourge his father introduced, Alpha Caellum has always been vocal and violent in his stance against human trafficking, especially women and children.”
“As time proceeded, anytime we were able to exterminate a mafia pack that decided to fall into the business of human trafficking, we celebrated with dinner. It became a ritual naturally, and till today, the Alpha and the members of this pack frown towards the act.”
It was a lot of information to take in, but I couldn’t deny the newfound respect for Caellum that grew in my heart. I didn’t realise we’d gotten to our destination until I heard his voice.
“Got lost on the way?”
