NALEDI’S POV
I felt happier these days.
I wish I could say that. It’s been one week since the girls were recovered by Caellum. We were right on time to apprehend the idiots who planned to ship them to the Yakuza mafia.
Thankfully, Caellum was an expert in showing them who’s boss. He did a thorough job cleansing Italy from the remains of Luka’s terrible business.
Seeing Luka’s legal and illegal businesses crumble while watching Luka watch them was a blessing I didn’t take for granted. You might have guessed it but I never allowed him to miss the morning news.
I fucking installed a TV in his dungeon, big enough for him to hear the demise and total eradication of the De Luka group of companies. Every day, after a wonderful time of torture and quick resuscitation before death, I gave him the additional benefit of watching the news reports on the state of his companies.
On today’s news, Luka was being exposed for his role in kidnapping certain girls who testified against him and how he had been declared wanted by the state. Not only that, his accounts were frozen and he was finally identified as the monster he was.
As much as I would have loved to watch him get out and face the music, I couldn’t. And you know why? Because I vowed he’d die at my hands. I was not one to go back on my promises.
I planned to make do with my words no matter the costs.
After watching the news, or should I say hearing the news – seeing I took out both his eyes a couple of days ago. I just didn’t think a person like him should be entitled to the same benefits other normal and decent individuals enjoy.
It was an insult for him to have eyes. A stain to the gift of sight. He was the devil and he should be in utter darkness. Hence the removal of the eyes. It wasn’t anything personal, I promise.
“Why can’t you kill me?” A beaten-down Luka said as soon as the news was over. “If you hate me so much why don’t you just kill me?”
I snickered at the guts of this man. “Not like you deserve an answer but since you are so curious,” I walked over to him with a sledgehammer and sent a powerful hit to his broken leg. The sound of his screams were music to my ears.
“Because it’ll be too easy letting you die,” I said with a devilish smile he couldn’t see. “For all the women you have ruined their lives and taken their children. For the pain you have caused to God knows how many people. Surely, it’ll be an abomination to die without paying a price for all you’ve done.”
“I am sorry…” He sobbed, “I said I was sorry… Please, just rip my heart already.”
Luka’s state was pitiful. He was a shadow of himself. Everything around and in him was failing. Alongside his will to live – Just like Karen had lost the will to live, and a couple of other women he put in harm’s way.
“I can’t, Love. You see, ever since I killed Karen and let you sell those women, I haven’t been able to sleep. And with my mate busy running around trying to close everything about you and your darned businesses, I have a lot of time on my hands and pent-up frustrations.”
“So no, you can’t die. Because if you die, then I have no one to vent my anger to. Then I’ll be left with the reality that the years I spent forgetting everything that people of your likes put me through was wasted.”
“That means I’ll be the broken girl again, trying to get her mind in check. And all of this shit is because of your smelly existence!” I raised my hands, hammering the sledgehammer as I spoke. “You can’t fucking die on me, Luka. I can’t allow it, You are going to remain in this basement, and when I feel you have paid your price in full, I’ll send you to hell myself.”
By the time I was done, Luka was bloodied and unmoving. I didn’t care to check if he was breathing. I walked out of the basement, meeting Marcus in the hallways. No doubt, he heard my little episode.
If I had yelled a little louder, I was sure the whole of Italy would have heard my voice. However, I didn’t have the time to weep over spilt milk. I couldn’t. I had a life and I was going to live it.
Because nightmares or not, I was Naledi fucking Rogers. I couldn’t be beaten down. And if I was, I made sure to come back harder. If I beat this thing once, and without a mate, I was certain I could do it again.
With or without Caellum.
I was soaking in my bathroom when I heard someone walk into my bedroom without knocking. I got out of the tub, put on a robe and picked up a gun for good measure.
There was no telling what those jacked-up Luka vampire minions could do. With the disappearance of Luka, things had been a bit hectic, increased with the downfall of his businesses and public scrutiny.
Everything was heightened and being a woman raised under the mafia, I knew better than to think everything would be fine with Luka in my basement paying for his crimes.
I knew there would be visitors. It was only a matter of time before the news got out. I expected visitors would come and I was ready. With my black PSS gun, I made my way towards the door, standing by the right as I waited for the darned intruder to walk in.
Like a fool, he did, unaware of the danger behind him. As soon as he walked in, he got within my shot, and a wicked smile graced my face. “Hello, sunshine.” I said in the sweetest tone.
He was a masked man, I couldn’t tell if he was a human or supernatural. But judging from the lack of scent around him, I figured he was either a supernatural or working for one who had a witch at their disposal.
“Listen up. You will walk right out. Take off your mask, and tell me who the fuck sent you or I’ll blow your head off. Capiche?”
