NALEDI’S POV
“What makes you think you have a choice?” He roared, stepping forward, “The day you signed a deal with me, you sold your life to me. Do I need to remind you what that means?”
I watched the scariest look grow on Luka’s face as he stepped closer to her, getting in her face.
“It means I own you! Every single inch of your dirty, malnourished and overused self. Don’t even try to test me because I am not in a good mood. Drop the attitude and get yourself treated. I wouldn’t say it again, Karen.”
She spat in his face. Bad move. Very bad move.
“I don’t care whatever deal I signed with you, Lunatic. I will only let myself get treated when I die.” She gritted. She meant every word. That bit was clear.
Luka stepped back, cleaning the saliva on his face, and shaking his head. Before we knew what was happening, Karen was on the floor, bleeding from her nose.
He punched her. He fucking hit her in the face. I moved to step forward but my feet were rooted to the spot. I watched in agony as he beat her mercilessly, far from over with his assaults.
By the time he got up, a full ten minutes had passed and he looked a bloodied mess too, and it wasn’t his. Not like he had any, being a vampire and all, but you get the gist.
The woman struggled to breathe, wheezing. Despite the pain, she never gave up. I watched her struggle and find her way to her feet, shaking all the way.
“Is that it? Is that all you can do? Pathetic little shit.” She cussed, spitting out blood.
Luka seemed over it. He gauged her with amused eyes, looking her over. “I thought you were smarter than this. Are you that desperate to get killed?” He asked, more like mocked.
He handed her over a gun dug from his waist. “Here you go. I’ll permit you to kill yourself. You are damaged goods with that face and body anyway. Take a bullet to the head. End your miserable life, Karen. You’ve served your purpose on earth.”
I felt a bile rise in my throat. What had this beast put her through?
As though finally noticing my presence, Luka turned around, his eyes holding a glint of evil as he walked towards me. Aware or possibly unaware of the woman holding a gun and pointing towards him.
Before the guards could make a move, a gunshot rang in the air, and a body dropped. I let down my arm, tucking my gun into my purse like I didn’t just shoot down a fucking woman.
“That little shit!” Luka swore when he realised what happened and turned around, approaching Karen’s body with a fire in his eyes.
“You think you can kill me, huh?” He roared, kicking her body which lay on the floor, dead. “You think you can end my life?! Look at you now, fool! I’d always be one step ahead of you and I promise to chase you to the ends of hell!”
The atmosphere was tense as he took out his anger on her. But I knew better. For the first time ever, he had been caught off guard. He had been close to his death. And he knew it.
He knew that had I not fired a shot, he would be on the floor. And probably dead if the bullets had a semblance of wood in it. With his reaction, I figured that might have been the case.
It didn’t take a genius to put that one together. With the amount of the undead working for him, he needed to have a good stash of those at his disposal, just in case anyone got smart.
And he handed her his gun, forgetting that little detail. He handed her a weapon that could potentially kill him. Had I not intervened. By the time Luka was done abusing her body, he fired out orders.
“Cut her to pieces and sell her parts to the highest bidder. I want every single piece of her used to its maximum potential, do you understand?!”
“Yes sir.” One of the men, who seemed like the head around here spoke, and they dragged her out of the place like some rag doll.
“Ensure that every single one of the women doesn’t get other ideas.” He continued, “They will not be tasting anything until that whore’s body parts are sold, just so they know what happens when they, or anyone else decide to rebel against me. Am I clear?!”
“Yes sir.”
Luka turned around, brooding and full of wrath. He walked past me and I followed him to the entrance we came by. Only this time, we didn’t take the stairs. I was surprised to see there was an elevator in the said place.
Why had he made us use the stairs all this while?
We maintained silence in the elevator. Something told me we were headed to a different place. And when the doors opened, I realised I was right. Just how many offices did he possess in this building?
“Relax yourself. I’ll get myself cleaned.” He gritted and stepped into a door that looked like an ensuite.
If I guessed right, this was his personal office. Where he came to relax. It had a great design and looked lived in. Unlike the other that seemed and felt like a place where he got his dirty deeds carried out and a hard entrance to the cave.
I let myself relax on the cushion, despite not feeling anything of the sort on the inside. If I was going to achieve my goal, I needed to be as smooth as they come. And that included not letting him see how affected I was by the death of Karen.
A woman I didn’t really know but shared a kin spirit with.
While I pondered on what I had done, Luka came in, wearing a white transparent t-shirt that showed odd markings on his back. He was still hell to be around but I couldn’t choose at this point.
“Why did you do it?” He cut to the chase, his tone sharp and defensive.
