Things had shifted between us

NALEDI’S POV
I woke up to the sweet feeling of Caellum inside me.
Slowly working me awake.
“Good morning, Sunshine.” His voice reached my ears and I moaned.
“Is this a dream?” I slurred, closing my eyes as he slipped in and out of me. “Because I never want to wake up.”
My body tingled as he nuzzled my neck. “It doesn’t have to,” He whispered, “Come back home with me and I’ll make sure you don’t have to go without this for the rest of your life.”
Now that was an attractive offer.
“And if I don’t?” I muttered with my eyes closed, “What if I don’t want to leave?”
Caellum slowed his pace, and a drawn-out sigh of protest left my lips. “Then I’ll show you just what you are missing.”
I opened my mouth to retort but he shut me up with a powerful thrust inside me. I gasped at the solid intrusion, loving every bit of it.
Caellum never gave me an opportunity to speak. He fucked me senseless and boy was I contemplating leaving this entire job and sailing to Wonderland with him.
Heck, If I got to enjoy such privileges from him for the rest of my life, I figured I’d die a fulfilled woman. Who cares about getting revenge for the eradication of my pack, right? He was just that good.
There were three categories of men. Those who had something dangling between their legs and had zero ideas on how to use it. Those who had it and knew exactly how to use it. And then there was Caellum. A man in a league of his own.
Caellum drove me off the cliff three times in a row, before deciding to begin our day. I laid in bed, pleasantly tired as he sauntered into the bathroom for a shower. While he showered, I got around, scrubbed my face and made use of another bathroom.
Only when the cold water hit me did I realise the gravity of what I’d done. I’d given myself to Caellum and liked every bit of it. I stared at my face in the mirror, watching as water cascaded down my form.
Things had shifted between us.
Panic erupted within me at the thought of what it meant both to me and to him. The last thing I needed was for him to think this was my declaration to be his forever mate.
I still planned on moving forward with the rejection plans. And for both our sakes, I hoped he did too. I returned to the room and Caellum stood in the window, dressed up.
“I expected you’d join me in the bathroom.” I stopped in my tracks when he turned around. “There was more than enough room for two.”
I sensed the meaning behind his words but I couldn’t continue without setting things straight. “There is no us.” I blurted and covered my mouth as soon as the words were out my mouth.
Caellum’s face froze as he walked towards me. “Don’t be silent on my account, Naledi. Care to elaborate?”
I took in a deep breath. It was now or never. It was better we got this out of the way. If we were going to keep this up, which would make me the happiest woman alive, I needed him to know that this was what it was.
Us getting physical and satisfying our primal needs.
“What happened last night,”
“And this morning,” He added. I rolled my eyes.
“What happened between us is not some declaration of our undying love for one another. We are going to proceed with our plans as usual. I wanted to be sure we are on the same page.”
“On the same page?” He corked his brow, but gone was the light atmosphere around him. “Are you perhaps scared that I’d fall in love with you after a couple unforgettable rounds of intense lovemaking?”
The room suddenly went a few degrees hotter.
“Sex.” I corrected, “We just had sex. Like every other primal animal with needs, we used each other to satisfy our urges.”
“And if in the nearest future, such primal needs arises, perhaps this second, what do we do?”
A bile lodged in my throat. “W-We c-could-” I cleared my throat. “I guess we could scratch that itch,” A smirk made its way to his lips but I raised my finger, “For as long as we know that this is just sex. No strings. No commitments, none of all those mushy matey feelings.”
His mesmerising eyelids fluttered close and opened within a second. He looked pissed. “I still don’t get the reason why you need to point this out to me, Naledi.”
“Listen, I just want to be sure, we are not getting any funny ideas. That’s all.”
“The thought that I might want more than sex is funny to you?”
I palmed my face, unable to answer.
“Let’s just stick to the plan, okay? Then everyone will be fine.”
“You mean you will be fine.”
I bit my lips, and my fist clenched. The last thing I wanted was for this to become something else. I was no prophet of doom but taking to account what lay in our future, we were better off as fuck buddies who happened to be mates.
Business partners if you may. Nothing more, nothing less.
Caellum gauged me for a second. Looking distraught. Like he wanted to say something but decided against it. He headed for the door and I felt my shoulders relax. He was finally getting it.
“You have three minutes, Naledi.” He said and opened the door.
My brows shot up in question. “What?”
“There is an emergency meeting, love. If you are doing this then we have to set some things straight, don’t we?” His tone was cold. It was all I needed to draw the line we had so judiciously crossed.
I guess I restored factory setting with my little speech there.
“I’ll be down in a few.”
Caellum walked out the door before I could finish my sentence. Talk about rude. I proceeded to put myself in order, which was honestly just looking at myself in the mirror and muttering what a badass female I was and how that was not the worst decision I’d ever made.
