Calesti POV.
“Alpha, you know I like you, but I don’t like being called here often,” I groan standing in front of my alpha, I was called again to his place, and he told me that I have to keep an eye on Stella and Theo, and now that Theo has gone insane, I’m called over again.
“I thought we were friends,” he says and I shake my head no, we’re not that good of friends, he’s my alpha and he scares me most days, but I do count him as a friend when I have to.
“Fine, fine, we’re not great friends, but you’re my friend, I can ask you for help, right?” he says looking at me with pleading eyes.
“What now?” I ask with a big pout, I love my cousin, but I’m not his keeper and he’s been getting in trouble with the alpha, they have hurt each other more than once, and every time Theo ends up with a broken bone or two, and still they are fighting.
“I don’t want to force you to do anything, I just want to ask you one question, you know Stella and you know Theo,” he says and I nod, I do know them both, and Theo is going insane, he took the creeping way toward getting to know his mate.
“I do, what do you want to know?” I ask him.
“Do you think that Theo is to be trusted enough to be left around his soul?” he asks me.
“If I say no, you can’t pull them apart,” I answer him, we both know that we can’t pull mates apart, she’s his soul, and if he takes her away, he’d die and maybe she’d die too, I can’t have her dying, she’s my good friend, and I don’t want her to die.
“I know we can’t pull anyone apart, but I can hold him back until I trust him enough to have him around her,” he says, so we both know that my cousin was a bit insane.
“She’s smart, she’s open-minded and she’s terrified of the wolves, we better off telling her before it drives her to insanity,” I say, I knew that the fear that’s living inside of Stella is going to be the end of her.
“Last time we talked, before Theo ruined it, I was about to explain things to her,” he says to me, I don’t know why he trusted me enough to tell me things, I knew he didn’t have a beta of his own yet, but I’m not up for the job, and I’m not going to volunteer either.
“Maybe you should let Theo finish telling her,” I suggest with a shrug, I know I’d prefer to have my mate telling me than my alpha.
“She saw us shifting, I believe she did, and we can’t take things back anymore, she’s gonna have to know now,” Milo tells me and things are bad, that’s really, and I mean really bad now.
“Alpha, why are you calling me? You two have clearly ruined things what we need to do now is damage control,” I say with a groan.
“What do you suggest?” he asks me.
“Let Theo out, let him talk to her, she’ll either accept it or she’ll reject him, but this game of hiding and fighting is just scaring her to hell and back,” I say.
“If she rejects him, he’s going to kill her, and die,” Milo says, no one wanted her to die, if she dies it’ll be very bad and hard to hide the fact that she died by a wolf, and then he’ll die as well.
“We’re gonna have to let fate take its way,” I say, I didn’t enjoy that, I didn’t want her life to end, but it’s not up to me, it’s not my job to decide if she lives or die, but she might get herself killed or hurt, we had to do the right thing now.
“He’s gonna be talking to her, she’ll run to you, count it as a heads up,” Milo says, so that’s why he called me, he needs help and giving me a heads up.
“Thanks, Alpha, I’ll be going home now,” I say with a groan, I go back to my place and wait for a call from Theo, the alpha is letting him go, he’s gonna be talking to me soon, I’m his friend.
As expected he called me, he told me that he was going to talk to her, and I warned him not to scare her, or be crazy, and he promised me to be nice, to play nice with her, I waited for the next part all the way while I talked to Finn, my mate, I’m not going to scare him, I’m not going to tell him now, I’ll wait until he’s older and bigger when his brain can understand what I really am and what he means to me.
Now the time has come, I’m sitting face to face with Stella, she’s going to be asking me a million questions, and I’m gonna have to answer them all, I’m her friend and it’s my job and duty as a friend, I refuse to be taking the beta’s job, she should be talking to Jasper but she doesn’t know him yet.
“I know, you have a million questions,” I say, with a smile, trying to be calm, I need to be on her side.
“Are you going to answer them?” she asks me, and I nod, not that I had a choice.
“Yeah, I am, come on sit down, we’ll talk,” I say, this is going to be the longest lunch hour ever.
“I feel like I’m thrown into crazy land,” she says and I laughed, that was the perfect description of what’s going on, it is crazy land out there.
“You couldn’t have said it better,” I agree with her.
“I know, are you one?” she asks me, and I couldn’t believe how bad of a job Theo did, she doesn’t know who is and who’s not.
“Yeah, I’m one, but I promise you Stella, I’ll never and I mean never ever, ever, hurt you or your family, I’m your friend, I promise, we’re not bad,” I promise her right away, she needs to know that, even if Theo was a bit crazy, but he just found his soul and he’s too excited about it all.
“You, I believe,” Stella answers me, making me sigh with relief, at least she does believe me.
“Okay, now that you believe me and that we’ll stay friends, ask away, what do you have to ask?” I ask her, with a big smile on my face.
“You’re all a pack? Like the wild wolves?” she asks me, like the one we watched on the TV.
“We’re one pack, but not everyone, some of the schools belong to another pack and another alpha, we’re one big family,” I explain to her.
“What’s your job?” she asks me next.
“My job?” I say confused, I’m me, I don’t have a job, since I go to school full time.
“Yes, like in the documentary, the wolves all have a rank,” she explains.
“You’re a smart girl,” I say with a smile on my face.
“Thank you, now answer me please,” she says with big eyes, she looked so innocent and so curious, I couldn’t help but answer her, she’s a cute baby.
“I’m a regular pack member, I don’t have a high rank,” I answer her, maybe if I wanted to, I could be some more, but I don’t want to.
“And Theo?” she asks me next.
“Theo is a troublemaker, he likes challenging our alpha, but that’s pretty normal for younger wolves, once they find their soul, they grow up,” I answer her, it’s the truth, most of the young wolves do that.
“They always fight like that?” she asks me next, I didn’t want to say yes, I wanted to make my cousin look good in front of her, so I decided to lie.
“No, not all the time, I have a theory, he’s just too filled with emotions and doesn’t know how to deal with his feelings and emotions, hence the fighting, but he’ll learn to get over it, and now that you know, it’ll be much better,” I assure her.
“What about Milo?” she asks me next, I didn’t expect that one.
“He’s the alpha, he’s the one in charge, what he says go,” I say with a shrug, he’s the definition of an alpha.
“Why did he take me on a date?” she asked me, I didn’t approve of him taking her on a date, that was a wrong move, even if he only planned on fixing stuff with Stella for Theo.
“He was trying to make it up for you, to explain things the easier way,” I say, telling her the easier explanation.
“He took me to see a cheesy movie, and tried to tell me about vampires and wolves, are vampires real?” she asked me and I laughed, Milo was even worse than Theo.
“No, vampires aren’t a thing you have to worry about,” I answer her, it wasn’t anything to worry about, she had enough on her plate.
“If you bite someone would they shift?” she asked me and I laughed.
“No, but once you bond with your mate, you can shift too,” I answer her.
“I can do it too?” she asks me.
“Later, yeah, sure,” I say, every soul can shift into a wolf, but it takes years of practice and being on good terms with their wolf.
“Wow, that’s so cool!” she says with a big smile on her face.
“I know, it’s cool and all, what else do you want to know, lunch is almost over, we can keep on talking when we get home?” I suggest to her.
“Can you just walk into our houses? No need for an invitation?” she asked me and I laughed.
“No we don’t need one, we can walk right in,” I assure her.
“What if I put salt on the door? Put a cross out?” she asked me, and I laughed out loud, as we left the cafeteria, ready to get to our next class, these questions are funny, I wonder what Finn would ask me when it’s his turn to find out about wolves and the fact that I’m his wolf and he’s my mate.
“I love salt, and I wear a cross sweetheart,” I assure her, those wouldn’t work.
“But in the stories they do work,” she says with a pout, she wants to keep Theo out probably.
“Honey, that’s the wrong kind of demons you’re trying to keep out, but you can put them,” I suggest to her, it’s fine to have them out, a lot of the wolves believe in the superstition and do put protective spells and salt around their homes.
“Fine, but later you’re gonna teach me how to keep your kind out,” she says and I laughed again, those are questions that she should ask her mate, but since Theo was an idiot, I’m the one who’s having fun answering everything she got.
“Sure sweetie, I’ll teach you how,” I say with a chuckle, we got to our next class and Theo joined us, her genuine smile turned into a tight smile on her face, she was nervous around him and scared, not that I blame her.
