Liam and Isabelle were on the driveway heading towards a place known to Liam alone. It’s been two weeks since the whole incident happened which was starting to die down. Liam had told her he had a surprise for her. They had been driving for hours now and she wondered why they hadn’t gotten there yet.
“Liam, is it that far?” Isabelle asked with a raised brow. “It’s been hours”
Liam placed a kiss on her lips to shut her up and said “We’re almost there. Just a few minutes left”
And true to his words, they arrived at the place in less than an hour. Liam helped her climb the mountain in front of them.
“My love, where are we going?” Isabelle asked, her voice laced with curiosity as she gazed at the breathtaking view in front of her.
By the time they got to the top of the mountain, Isabelle was taken aback by the breeze that hit her in the face. A blissful smile curved on her face as her gaze fluttered around. The mountain slopes were covered in lush green forest because it was the summer period.
The serenity she felt as she stretched her arms wide open made her eyes watered. She turned to meet Liam’s gaze, her eyes filled with gratitude that he had brought her to experience what she had always loved- the true gem of nature.
She ran towards Liam and hugged him, her red flowery dress blowing towards the direction of the breeze. “I love it” she muttered, her voice barely a whisper.
Liam brushed his lips against her earlobe and whispered back in reply “I knew you would. That was why I thought of this idea”
Isabelle pulled herself out of his embrace and walked further. Her eyes caught sight of a basket and a mat that was meant for a picnic.
“Is that what I think it is?” She asked Liam with furrowed brows. “It’s almost dark, who does picnic in the evening?”
“Yes dear” Liam replied but stopped her from going there. “We’ll get there but there’s something else I want you to see… Come with me”
He dragged her to the other side of the mountain where the slope was much lower. “Go on in” he mumbled to Isabelle who immediately parted the shrubs in her way.
Her jaws dropped in shock, her eyes widened in astonishment as she beheld the mind-blowing sight in front of her. This part of the mountain was transformed into a romantic wonderland with twinkling lights and lanterns that shone brightly in the night.
“Come on, my love. You have to move closer” Liam urged her, his voice filled with love which she heeded to like a metal object pulled towards a magnet.
A tail of rose petals and candles wound its way up to the spot where a table for two was set with a wine bottle and two glasses on it.
She was about to walk towards the table when another amazing thing caught her attention. It was the colour of the sky which was painted with hues of pink and purple, a breathtaking sight for what was about to unfold.
As she held Liam who had been observing her face all along by his arms, the scent of flowers filled her nostrils as its petals blew in her direction.
And then, from nowhere, fireworks erupted into the sky in a burst of colorful glory. The crackles of the fireworks danced above them, harmonizing with their heartbeats.
As the display reached its climax, Liam suddenly got on one knee, holding a small silver box in his hands. Isabelle didn’t notice this action as she was still in a daze, staring at the fireworks until it displayed some words. “Will you marry me?”
Those words made her look down at Liam who had been patiently waiting for her.
“You said you wanted a romantic proposal, so I’m giving you one” Liam declared with a loving gaze. “Please, accept my proposal as a sign of my love for you. I promise to cherish you in your best and worst moments no matter the hurdles we face. My fate and yours are forever entangled in this world and the next life”
Tears of joy and happiness streamed down Isabelle’s eyes as she stared at Liam with gratitude. “I’m already yours forever and I promise to stand by you. I would never be swayed by anyone or anything that would jeopardize this wonderful thing we have”
“So, is that a yes?” Liam asked with expectations in his voice.
Isabelle choked on her tears as she answered. “Yes, it’s a yes.”
The final burst of fireworks illuminated the sky as the two lovers embraced themselves, lost in the moment of love.
Isabelle stared at the diamond ring on her fingers and said” It fits perfectly. I love it”
“It’s fine. I’ll renew it for you every year” Liam declared as he placed a light kiss on her forehead.
His words made Isabelle chuckle. “That’s nice”
“Well, there’s something else. You know Rachael wanted to have dinner with us so badly?… I invited her and William over. Not just them, but also Sarah and Adrian”
“A triple date?” Isabelle’s eyes glistened with joy as she turned around to search for the concerned people until she saw them hiding close to the grass. “You can come out now. I know you’re there” she yelled at them.
Rachael was the first to come to her while the others followed.
“Congratulations,” they all said in unison.
“Guess what?” Rachael giggled as she held Isabelle’s hands and displayed the ring on her finger.
“He proposed?” Isabelle questioned, her voice laced with surprise. She didn’t need an answer because it was evident in her excitement.
Meanwhile, Liam and William were having a light conversation.
“I never knew you were this romantic” William teased him with a taunting smile on his lips. “I know it was Rachael’s idea, but I wasn’t expecting you to be this… You know what I mean”
Liam was quick to retort. “Well, I on the other hand, never knew your this fast to cling on to something you own. I didn’t expect you to propose before me”
“Well, what can we say?.. we are brothers in arms” William replied with caused the two to chuckle heartily.
The two couples suddenly turned to Sarah and Adrian who were standing aside, waiting to be invited.
“Come on, let’s go have dinner” Rachael indulged them “I want a remark for my culinary skills”
“Hey, you! Adrian, when do you plan on proposing?” William yelled out with consideration for the guy’s feelings. “I won’t mind finding someone to snatch her away from you if you waste any more time”
“Ignore him. He’s just pulling your legs.” Rachael said dismissively. “Take your time”
“Hmm… I’m quite sure I would have made baby number three by the time he’s ready” William commented with a knowing glance at Rachael who blushed at his words.
“Who said I wanted to have three babies?” She yelled out which caused a resounding laughter from everyone.
And there it was, the happiness they all longed for. They were going to cherish it forever.
