“Get in Rachael” William ordered to the lady glaring at him in front of his car. “We can talk about this”
Rachael was taken aback by his manner of approach and got annoyed further. She turned her back against him and continued her walk, ignoring him like a light breeze blowing past her ears.
“Huh…” William was stunned as he began to question himself if he had done anything wrong. He started the car and drove slowly behind her which got her angry as she turned and yelled with a curse she didn’t plan for.
“Stop following me. You son of a gun”
Her hand flew over her mouth as soon as she realized her mistake. She was confused about the next thing to say or do as she watched William alight from his car with a frown on his face.
Her breath hitched as she felt his breath over her. He grabbed her shoulders towards himself and whispered into her ears,” Did you just insult my mother?.. my dad won’t take it lightly with you if he finds out”
Thinking he had sacred her. He laughed it off a little and added, “it’s fine, as long as you let me speak with you… I know I messed up badly”
“Hmph… ” Rachael scoffed, taking steps backward to get rid of his intoxicating scent that made her lose her senses. She wasn’t ready to give in to him, though she had promised Isabelle to hear him out.
“What do you want?… Out with whatever you have to say and let me be on my way” she uttered, her voice laced with rudeness yet her heart was beating hard with nervousness.
William’s gaze turned solemn as he detected the curtness in her voice. “I’m sorry, please, let me take you home. We can talk when we get there”
After much consideration and feeling of pity for him, she agreed with reluctance in her voice. “Fine, but no drinking”
“I can’t promise you that” William replied with a teasing tone but quickly corrected himself when she was about to leave. “Yes yes fine, no drinking”
William tried to open the door to the passenger seat for her but she hit his hand away saying, “Don’t you dare try to act like we’re back together”
“Okay” William scratched the back of his head and walked over to the driver’s seat, both of the entering at the same time.
The silence throughout the ride was so silent that Rachael had to come down twice to take in fresh air. The two of them walked silently into the house and sat down while staring around without saying anything. William was the first person to break the silence.
“Rachael, I know I was wrong for keeping my identity from you ever since we… ever since we were in high school, and I’m sorry” he uttered in a gentle and pleading voice, his gaze flashing with anticipation as it lingered on her.
“I didn’t even know you were that close to Liam Callahan and you fooled me all through the time I talked to you about them. I mean you should have helped us” Rachael responded, her eyes welled up in tears and her voice laced with anger and hurt. “If Liam hasn’t recognized the devices you gave to me through the letter W inscribed in it, would you have told me?”
“Yes, Rachael..”William affirmed without hesitation. “I was going to tell you after we started dating but things just moved so fast that you had to find out from my best friend instead, I’m truly sorry”
“Hmph…” She snorted, looking away.
“Should I take that as a sign that you’ve forgiven me?” William asked with an expectant gaze lingering on her. “I would do anything for you”
“You will?” Rachael asked, her eyes widening in excitement as she held his hands without knowing. “Like anything?”
“Y.. yes. Anything” William stuttered with fear in his voice as he couldn’t shake off the feeling he he had in his heart as he stared at her happy smile. “That is if you decide to call off the break”
Rachael kept mute for a moment before letting out a deep sigh. A warm smile gradually curved on her lips as she gazed at him saying, “Yeah. Fine.. the break is over”
“Really?… You’re serious right?” William inquired with excitement yet doubt dripping from his words. “You’re sure the break is over”
“Yes, William.. it is”Rachael replied with furrowed brows, a bit annoyed by his questions. “And as long as you don’t keep secrets anymore, we will be fine with fewer issues in between”
“I promise there won’t be any more secrets again. I can assure you that and many more as long as it is within my capabilities” he said, his tone resolute and his gaze unwavering as he held her hands. He was ready to make a lifetime vow with her but he didn’t want to scare her, so he decide to wait a bit.
“Come here, darling” Rachael muttered, her voice barely above a whisper as she pulled him into her embrace, fiddling with his hair. “We have a long way to go, you know that, right?.. I want us to trust each other no matter what.. so, no more secrets okay?”
“No more secrets, dear” William affirmed, repeating her words and hugging her tightly. A thought suddenly crossed his mind. ” What do you think we can do to help Liam and Isabelle out?… Those two aren’t romantic at all, they might end up growing old like that without settling their differences”
“Hahaha” Rachael laughed hard, clutching her stomach. “Yeah, you’re right. They do need our help or let’s say, Isabelle needs our help”
“So, what plan do you have in mind?” William asked with a questioning gaze, hugging her again and fiddling with her hair. “Maybe she should write an apology letter like three thousand words of I’m sorry…”
Another round of laughter resonated through the room as Rachael stared at William with a funny expression on her face. “I was not expecting that for you. You made me speechless.. like seriously?”
William was a little embarrassed by her words and asked instead. “Alright, what idea do you have in mind?”
