“Why are you asking?” Liam lifted an eyebrow in suspicion as he could already guess what his friend was thinking about. “He’s very capable and I can vouch for that”
“Alright, just wanted to be sure of the capability of who I might work with in the future,” William replied with laziness in his voice. “I would have made you a laughing stock if you were paying an inexperienced tech guy.. haha”
“Don’t be so judgemental until you see him in action”Liam retorted, his tone confident and full of pride as the face of Adrian flashed through his mind. “So, what’s the plan?”
“The plan is, we rescue your fiancee first” William suggested, sitting up straight with a stern expression on his face. “Have you seen the video clip?”
“Yes” Liam replied curtly with clenched teeth, his hands balled into a fist as he recalled how she was attacked and maltreated. He swore in his heart to torture those people till they were begging for death. He inhaled deeply and asked, “They were hired, right?”
“Exactly. I dug into their profile and found out their base location. They are three in numbers, the notorious trio is known for their credibility and high-class ability to kidnap their targets” William explained in detail. “Right now, their base is empty. Their hirer must have told them to run away to avoid being caught by you.. this assumption leads to another”
“Which is?” Liam asked with a questioning gaze as he walked over and sat next to William on the sofa. “What is the other assumption you have?”
William sighed deeply before saying, “Don’t forget it’s just an assumption but their clients must have known about your capabilities. Someone close to you to have studied you in and out… Now, all we have to do is track the kidnapper’s location and make them tell us the name of the person who hired them”
“Hmm…. That’s a fantabulous idea” Liam complemented with a sense of admiration in his heart. One of the reasons why he and William remained friends was because of how identical their thoughts were. Their manipulative and calculative skills were top-notch, a blend that was dangerous and mostly to be avoided.
Liam thought of something for a moment before asking, “So, how do we find this notorious trio?.. who knows how far they gone”
“That’s the more reason why I need to work hand in hand with your tech guy. I know his skills are nothing compared to mine, but your company has more advanced technological innovations than I do. I’m a one-man technician… So, with someone who has access to your security system and my tip-notch skills, tracking them through the whole country won’t be a problem” William explained with much enthusiasm, his tone full of pride and his eyes flashing with much confidence.
A smirk appeared on Liam’s lips as he gazed at his friend with a knowing look, saying “I can sense your pride hasn’t dwindled a bit… You have a sweet mouth, don’t you?”
“At least, I can prove it through my actions” William retorted equally with a smirk on his lips, the confidence in his tone becoming more obvious. Suddenly, a question popped up in his head. “Have the elders called for a meeting yet?”
“No, they haven’t” Liam shook his head in denial. “I hope they don’t till we’re done trying to phase through this hurdle”
“Yeah, you’re right” William readily agreed, his voice laced with a hint of tiredness. “I’m quite sure the verbal attack I’m getting from my father this time, will be more than usual, and the others won’t fail to chip in. They just can’t mind their business”
Liam let out a throaty chuckle, amused by his friend’s words which happened to be true. He said in a low voice. “You should be grateful you’re getting your tongue-lashing from your father. I’m getting mine from everyone at once”
“Yeah, I think it’s best you wear a raincoat to keep yourself protected from the rain that would fall, regardless of the weather. ” William let out a witty remark that led to a long line of laughter that echoed through the whole room. Anyone who walks into the office to see their CEO this friendly and active would think they have seen a ghost.
“I’ll consider your advice” Liam chipped in, in between laughter. “But on a serious note, we are definitely going to have a thorough round of tongue-lashing sessions”
When Liam dropped his statement, he knew the response that would follow from his best friend who had a large sense of humor.
“Hmm…. What was it that Mr. Diego used to say… Oh! Yes..” William exclaimed after much thought as he cleared his throat to mimic the voice of the old man. “You’re as useful as a chocolate teapot- looks good but doesn’t do much”
His way of mimicking was so perfect that another round of laughter echoed through the room.
“You do know how sassy he can be when he finds out about our gossip” William added, wiping the tears in his eyes with the back of his palm. “Our dads and that old man had a lot in common. I could almost choke on my laughter whenever they bickered with one another… Too bad those moments are now a thing of memory”
A feeling of nostalgia hit them as childhood memories flooded through their brains together with fading memories of their loved ones. William suddenly remembered something.
“I heard about your mother. I’m stunned. I wasn’t expecting her to go that far as meddling in your affairs, even after the atrocious things she did to your father. She even had the guts to orchestrate an accident” William blabbered on and on. “I hope you’re not bothered about it?’
“No, I’m not” Liam replied. “Enough with the chitchats. Tomorrow is Saturday, I want you here in the morning, we need to work on our plans carefully and your girlfriend will be coming”
William sighed deeply, saying “I’m afraid that’s not how things are anymore. She requested space… I guess I should have told her everything since high school, but I was just too cowardly to accept my identity”
