Wayne’s ‘Prisoner’

Book:Mated To The Big Bad Alpha Published:2024-9-3

Wayne didn’t allow Olive do anything on her own after she woke up, even when she was obviously looking fine. He said her body needed rest because of her ‘too fast of a healing’.
“Dude! I was sleeping for three days!” she would nag but he wouldn’t listen.
“Yes. But your blood didn’t flow well. So, you have to mellow down or you’ll get a stroke. Just let your body get used to you being awake first. Move around but don’t you go to the Circular Cabinet or the kitchen. If you want coffee, let me know,” he had said.
Olive glared at him and he glared back. Finally, she gave up and slumped on the bed. She had been sitting there and watching a movie on his tablet ever since. He went to meet up with a few officials and warned her not to leave the quarters.
Olive had thought he was just being too sensitive regarding her health, but it was because he was scared. They had not realized who planned the attack on her yet.
The strange doctors they finally arrested died after entering their custody. It was like they were on a time bomb or something. At first, when Wayne was interrogating them and they fell unconscious, he thought it was just fright. Until he couldn’t hear any pulse or heartbeat. To be sure, he felt them and was so shocked to find they had both died at the very same time. Like they were controlled by a remote and their life button was turned off. It was so shocking.
The other boys, the teenagers, were truly possessed just as Wayne had said. They regained themselves ten hours after Jake and the rest brought them to a special cell in the police station.
It was Jake who interrogated them this time because they thought Wayne might somehow have something to do with the deaths of the other two foreigners. Though, that was just a suspicion.
The teenage boys however did not remember anything about the commotion in the hospital. They didn’t even remember being brought to the cell and interrogated at first.
They had stayed there for ten hours but somehow didn’t remember a minute they had spent there. Before they regained their real selves, Jake had returned to talk with them. He sat down and questioned the handcuffed boys but they gave him the same rude, violent demeanor they had given him earlier on.
But the next minute, they were looking around confused and wondering how and why they ended up in handcuffs. Or why they were in front of the pack’s Beta. Some even cried that they did nothing. It was shocking to realize they did not remember a single thing they had done while under the possession of the dark force.
Jake had to call Wayne and he ordered for them to be kept in a facility for observation. Their families could visit them but they were not permitted outside.
With the investigation going in circles, Wayne was so scared that Olive was still in danger. Somehow, he was glad she was unconscious and safe in his room. But now that she woke up, he had to keep her in there. He didn’t even want her to go to the receiving hall.
“You are keeping her a prisoner, Wayne,” Dolly told him gently after he had returned from his meeting and had bumped into her in a hallway.
“I’m keeping her safe,” he retorted.
“Safe in a prison?”
“My room is not a prison,” he argued and she shook her head.
“Let the girl come out for some fresh air. I doubt the attacker is in the castle. Even if he is, would he attack her in public?”
“I’m not letting Olive roam around. And yes, the attacker can attack her in public. For goodness sake, this person uses dark powers. Dark magic,” Wayne nagged and raked his fingers through his hair.
“How about you let the guys walk with her to just the Circular Cabinet? Or at least, let her meet up with us in the receiving hall of your quarters. She’s our friend, she shouldn’t be bored because her life is in danger,” Dolly continued, not relenting at all.
“No,” Wayne stubbornly stated.
“Wait… why am I even taking permission from you? The guys and I are coming there in a few minutes. If you do anything stupid, you won’t like me,” she warned and glared at him. She was angry with his overprotective attitude. She walked away and Wayne huffed.
“Sometimes I wonder if you’re really supposed to be my younger sister,” he muttered to himself.
When he returned to his room, he found Olive working out inside. She was in a press-up and was counting.
“Fifteen… sixteen… seventeen… eighteen… nineteen… twenty,” she mumbled on. When she was done with counting, she stood up then turned upside down. Her hands firmly placed on the floor and her legs straight towards the ceiling-then she began to go up and down.
“One… Two… Three… Four… Fi-”
“What are you doing?” Wayne finally found his voice to question her. She stopped counting but didn’t stop moving her body up and down. She looked at him and smiled.
“Working… out,” she answered.
“Come down from that position now,” Wayne stated and she scoffed.
“Since I’m your prisoner, you just want to order me around,” she replied and chuckled. It was meant as a joke, but somehow it hurt Wayne. Dolly had said he was making his mate a prisoner and now she had said it too.
“Since you won’t let me use the gym, I’m doing this,” Olive stated after she stood on her feet. She walked to her vanity and took the towel she hung over her chair. She wiped her face and neck then gulped down a bottle of water.
“Come here, let’s spar,” she said after dropping the bottle.
“What?”
“Come on, let’s fight. I wanna see who’s stronger.” She took her stance and turned her hands into fists, positioning them in front of her. Wayne gaped at her in surprise. Did she really think she could stand up to him?
“I guess you have been curious if you could actually defeat me that day, that’s if I didn’t know you were coming beforehand,” he stated with his usual sly smirk. He removed his bracelets and kept them on the dining table.
“You read my mind, Wayne,” she answered.
“I thought I told you not to call me by name. Or I’d punish you,” Wayne drawled and she pouted.
“My bad. I forgot,” she whined.
“Double punishments then. First, for disobeying me. Second, for even forgetting the instruction. A very important instruction for that matter,” he recited and began to take slow ‘predation’ steps towards her. She had to step backwards, removing herself from her fighting stance.
“Hey, I… I just woke up, remember. I forgot some things as a result… as a result of the accident and the traveling through my mind,” she stammered.
“Nice excuse,” he crossed his arms and tilted his head to look at her.
“What’s my punishment?” she asked, giving up on playing the sorry part.
“Good question. Just go to the bathroom, take a good shower and meet me here. I’ll tell you your punishment,” he answered and flicked a strand of tousled hair from over his left eye. As he did so, Olive thought he looked like someone she had met. But who? She didn’t have any friends with Wayne’s sort of features. But why did his face look so familiar all of a sudden. Like it was seen on someone else.
She huffed and turned around to go to the bathroom. She reached the bathroom door when she stopped and looked back at Wayne who had gone to sit on the sofa by the bar. He had his arms crossed, his head resting on the seat and his face looking up at the ceiling like he was waiting for someone. Waiting for someone? That was it! Wayne shared a very uncanny resemblance with Walter Lance from her vision. Especially with the way he was sitting. It was the exact way Walter sat while waiting for Lois in the hospital.
