Chapter 12
“Um..” Christian began again, and Antonia knew something was up as he never stutters, except it’s something he can’t seem to break down to her.
“What? You can tell me,” Antonia said with a chuckle, now turning to face him.
“Well,” Christian moved a bit forward, resting his right palm on the counter.
“You know, about the get-together coming up, with all other CEOs?..”
“Yeah, the ‘big event'” Antonia mimicked with a laugh.
“Everyone’s been talking about it, of course I do, and I know you’re going to be there too… right? or not since you don’t like events like that, but you have to, it’s a good course to win over deals, don’t you think?” Antonia commented.
“Yeah, I know that.. and yeah I will be attending..” Christian said, straightening out his arms. “But.. I.. will be going with ‘her'” He said, and straightened his posture afterwards.
“Who?” Antonia finally said, after turning dramatically with a knowing look on her face. She did have a clue of who it was.
“Laura, Laura Gracias..”
“Yeah, I know her, your fake wife, isn’t it?” Antonia said, getting annoyed.
“Babe..” Christian moved closer to her.
“No, I’m not mad” Antonia said, putting on a smile as she took a step backwards.
“But why are you going with her? I mean it’s not necessary you go with her, you guys just made you two public, you don’t have to go there for a showcase or whatever and I can’t believe you proposed that..” She scoffed.
“I mean, going with her, why would you even have that thought of going with her? You have always gone alone, why with her now, I mean..” She was getting more annoyed.
“Okay, I didn’t propose it, she did.” Christian corrected. A corner of her eyes twitched.
“What? And you agreed? You agreed to go with her and why would she propose that..”
“Tonia, I understand her, I mean it’s a really good course to convince the public we’re ‘not fake’ because there are probably some of them out there doubting ‘us’, this would be a really good avenue to you know”
“Doubting you two? Christian, did you really just say that right now? Why do you care if people doubt you two or not? Like why do you want them not to doubt you two? Why do you care enough? Why?..”
“Hey. Hey . hey, that’s not what I meant babe, I swear” Christian hushed her silently.
“I’m not doing any of what you just said, I’m only doing this because of you, us. I’m this worried because of us..”
“Why? Because I know pretty well this has nothing to do with me nor us, that’s just you trying to make up an excuse for your..”
“The food!” Christian suddenly cut her off as he hurried to the cooker and turned it off. The smell of burnt pancakes filled the air immediately.
He turned to meet Antonia who didn’t bulge and still had that angry look.
“Alright, you know what? I don’t think you’re going to want to listen to me right now because you look really angry right now, so how about we talk about it over dinner huh?”
“Yeah, with those burnt pancakes that happened because of you” She scoffed.
