Anastasia’s POV
I woke up the next day, my mind is still spinning with everything that had happened. I had signed the contract, securing my company’s future, but doubt still lingered. I tried to push it aside as I prepared for my first antenatal checkup-a reminder of the other huge responsibility growing inside me. It was a reality I hadn’t fully come to terms with yet.
Arriving at the hospital, I felt a small wave of relief wash over me. At least I was doing something for herself and the baby today. After checking in, I decided to visit Sophia, who happened to be around despite not being on duty.
“Hey, you!” Sophia called out, pulling me into a warm hug. “You finally decided to take care of yourself, huh?”
“Yeah, it’s about time,” I replied with a weak smile, trying to mask my inner turmoil.
Sophia, ever the dramatic one, began fussing over her. “Do you even know what you’re doing here? If not, don’t worry-I’ll make sure these doctors don’t mess up.”
I couldn’t help but laugh, appreciating the lightheartedness Sophia brought to my day. As we walked, I decided to share what had been bothering me, choosing my words carefully.
“Hey, Soph, I met with some investors yesterday,” I began, keeping my tone casual.
Sophia’s eyes widened with interest. “Investors? Tell me more!”
I nodded, hesitating before continuing. “It’s nothing too serious, it was a necessity to avoid liquidating the company. And………”
“And……..” she repeated with anticipation.
“I might have met my one-night stand.” I said, causing her to stop dramatically on her heels.
I sigh looking at her anticipation filled eyes. “Well, there was this guy… he is a lawyer, the investor’s lawyer. He looked really familiar, too familiar. It’s been bothering me, I think he might be the guy from that night, you know, the one-night stand.”
Sophia’s eyebrows shot up, her face lighting up with curiosity. “Wait, you think he’s your one night stand? you think? Babe you have to be sure in times like this.
I bit my lip, feeling the weight of my words. “I mean, I’m not sure, but… it’s possible. See, I was definitely sure he was the one, until he spoke to me. He is the best epitome for rudeness.”
Sophia stared at me in disbelief for a moment, then burst out, “And you didn’t talk to him? Are you crazy? You should have at least asked!”
I sighed, my mind still reeling from the encounter. “I don’t know, Soph. I just-everything was happening so fast, and I wasn’t even sure…”
Sophia shook her head, a mix of disbelief and humor in her voice. “Ana, you need to get it together! You’re carrying his baby, possibly. You can’t just ignore that.”
I shrugged, feeling overwhelmed. “I know, but it’s complicated.”
Sophia leaned in, a mischievous glint in her eye. “Okay, but seriously… was he hot?”
I couldn’t help but laugh, despite the situation. “Yeah, he was… really hot.”
Sophia grinned, nudging me playfully.”OOh, now we’ve got a hot, handsome lawyer with a lil bit of an attitude. That’s not too bad.”
She pauses for a while. “See? Now I’m even more convinced you should have talked to him. Who knows, he might turn out to be Prince Charming.”
I shook my head, smiling despite myself . “I wouldn’t call his attitude a lil bit besides only you would think that way, Soph.”
We continued chatting as we walked to the antenatal department. Sophia’s presence was a comfort, and I felt a little more at ease as I went through the checkup. Sophia, despite not being on duty, stayed close, making sure everything was done properly.
As the checkup concluded, Sophia offered to drive me home, but I declined. “I’ll be fine, Soph. You’ve done enough for me already.”
Sophia hugged me tightly before leaving. “Take care, Ana. And seriously, think about what I said. You need to know who this guy is.”
I smiled and waved as Sophia walked away. I got into my car, my thoughts still swirling. As I drove, my mind kept drifting back to Damien, the man I now suspected might be the father of my child.
A phone call suddenly came in, and while I tried to pick up and answer the call, the phone suddenly slipped from my hand and fell down. I tried to reach the phone while trying to keep my focus on the road, my focus wavered.
A loud piercing honk cut the air, urgent and sharp and before I knew it, the sound of screeching tires and the violent impact of another car slamming into mine filled my ears. Everything went black as I slipped into unconsciousness.
