Echoes Of Loss 1

Anastasia’s POV
The room was well-lit and tidy, there was a sort of that familiar hospital odor lingering in the room. When I opened my eyes, I was rather entangled and bewildered, as if I was still half in the dream or half in the sleep and I might have been dreaming or in a nightmare perhaps. A luminous light that was shining over me made me close my eyes for a second and when opened them I felt like I belong to a different world. But then the remembrance of everything that had happened, the familiar heart ache quickly shook me awake from my realm as I tried to sit up on the bed.
My dad had passed away.
The memory struck me so strongly that it nearly left me breathless. The last thing I remember is seeing them carry him out of the surgery room, with a white sheet over him. It was nighttime. I think I fainted because I was so surprised.
I tried to sit up, but I felt really dizzy. A gentle hand rested on my shoulder, telling me to stay still.
“Anastasia, take your time,” a familiar voice gently said. Please share the text you want me to make simpler. She was sitting next to me, and she looked worried but also a little happy.
“Sophia” I whispered, my throat dry and scratchy. “What happened”
“You fainted, Ana. ” The stress was too much to handle. “You’ve been away for a day or two,” she said, watching my face to see if I remembered anything.
I blinked, trying to think about what had happened. My dad went to the clinic and got some bad news. Then, I remembered something else that I had tried really hard to forget, so much that it felt like it wasn’t real.
I thought to myself, “My mom.
“What did you say? ” Sophia moved in closer, looking confused.
“Mom Sophia, where’s my mom? ” I asked, and all the feelings I had from before came flooding back.
“She is fine, she has just left the hospital,” she responds, trying to comfort me.
I don’t know how I thought of him in this situation but cheers to feelings that I developed for a man who appeared to be my husband. ” What of Blake,”
“I have not even seen him, nothing from him,” she answers.
I was about to say something when the door swung open, and the doctor came in pushing a clipboard. He gazed at me with a medical look which I have seen in many doctors, but I saw the compassion in his eyes.
“Mrs. Sinclair, nice to see you have woken up,” the doctor started, keeping his voice even and steady. “You have to be careful, really careful. ” Your body has been through a lot, and during pregnancy, it’s very important for you to rest completely. Stress can be bad for you and your baby.
The little child. The truth struck me very hard. With everything going on, I totally forgot about the baby growing inside me. My fingers traced over my belly area as if to protect the life growing inside of me from harm.
The doctor continued, “I understand you’ve been through an unimaginable loss, but you need to focus on your health now. “It’s the best way to make sure your pregnancy goes well. ”
I nodded slowly, my mind feeling confused. How could I pay attention to anything when my life was collapsing? But the doctor’s words broke through my sadness. I needed to be strong for both me and the baby.
“Doctor,” I hesitated, not sure how to say what I wanted. “You should know something. ” A man, my husband, might come in soon. “Please, I’m asking you not to tell him about the pregnancy. ”
The doctor’s eyes got a bit bigger, and he looked confused for a moment. It looks like your text got cut off. Could you please provide the complete text you’d like me to simplify? “Sinclair, I need to insist-”
“Please,” I interrupted him, my voice shaking but firm. “This matters a lot. I can’t really explain anything right now, but please I need you to please trust me. Don’t tell him anything.”
He looked at me pausing for a long moment, probably weighing his options and deciding what to do. Finally, he nodded, albeit reluctantly. “Very well, Mrs. Sinclair. I’ll respect your wishes, but please understand that this isn’t standard procedure.”
“Thank you,” I said to him, relief flooding through my entire body systems, though it did little to ease the pain in my chest.
As if not wanting to be involved in the exchange, Sophia looked at me worried, and just as she was about to speak, the door opened again. This time, it was Blake.
“Talk of the devil…” Sophia muttered under her breath, her lips pursed in irritation. She stood up, shooting me a look that said she’d be right back, then brushed past Blake, not even acknowledging his presence.
Blake’s eyes were unreadable as he stepped into the room, his hands in his pockets. For a moment, we just stared at each other, the silence stretching between us like a chasm.
“You’re awake,” he said finally, his voice showing no feelings.
“Obviously,” I answered, my voice more intense than I meant it to be. I felt anger rising inside me, along with deep sadness. “Why are you here, Blake? ”
“I wanted to see how you were,” he said simply, his eyes flicking away from mine as if he couldn’t bear to meet my gaze.
I scoffed. “I can’t believe you Blake, I can’t believe you were the one that I had married. The one I knew since all these years,”
He walks towards me and takes a seat by the bed. “I am sorry about Mr Harry,”
“Mr Harry?” I can’t believe he addressed my father, his father-in-law, as Mr Harry. I scoffed once more before speaking again, “Mr Harry?” My tone started to rise. “Why? Why are you sorry? You didn’t kill my father. So what are you sorry for?”
“Anastasia, you need to calm down, you need to rest,” he says.
I don’t know how I met such a foolish person. Does he think he is pacifying me or what? He is just adding fuel to the issue. “Huh?!”
“I’m just saying you need to take a break,” he replied, sounding distant like he was saying it without really meaning it.
“Leave my room, Blake. ” “I don’t want you here. ” I could barely hide the anger in my voice. It wasn’t just sadness; it was everything. The lies, the betrayal, and the total ruin of the life I believed I had.
For a moment, I thought I saw a flash of something-regret, maybe?-in his eyes, but it was gone as quickly as it appeared. “Fine,” he said, shrugging. “I only came to talk to you about the divorce anyway. “We need to figure out what to do about it. ”
“Now” I almost laughed because it was so ridiculous. “Do you think this is a good time to talk about that? ”
“It’s a good time,” he said in a dull voice. “The faster we finish it, the better it will be. ” “We’ll pretend everything is fine for your mom and keep it calm for now, but we need to address the problem. ”
I looked at him, shocked by how uncaring he was. How could he talk about divorce when my dad had just died? And I was pregnant with a baby I wasn’t sure I wanted.
“Leave,” I said again, my voice cold and firm. “Just go, Blake. ” “We’ll take care of this later. ”
“Fine,” he said quietly, turning around and leaving the room without saying anything else.
As the door clicked shut behind him, I felt the weight of everything crash down on me again. The grief, the anger, the fear… it was too much. I covered my face with my hands to shut everything out, but I still cried, and the tears came strong and unstoppable.
I didn’t see Sophia come back until she was sitting next to me with her arm around my shoulders. “Ana, I’m really sorry,” she said softly, sounding very emotional.
I couldn’t even so I just sat there and cried, putting my face in my hands.
And then the door opened again at a time that I thought I couldn’t take it anymore. This time, the door opened with a whisper of the sound. I raised my head slightly and instead of a doctor or a nurse, it was Mike, my father’s manager.
He seemed uneasy, moving from one foot to the other while clearing his throat. “I’m sorry to jump in,” he started, speaking very softly. “But there’s something important for you to understand. ” Your dad’s company is having problems, Anastasia. Big problem “We’re about to go broke. “
