Author’s POV
Chantelle put her dark glasses down an inch to see Fernando seated with his head bowed deeply into the papers in front of him. She snickered entering the space. Noticing her presence, Fernando raised his head and gulped hard at the sight of her. There is something about Chantelle that has him melting on the spot. If not because he had to act professionally whenever he found himself in her presence. He would have asked her out on a date.
“Hello, Miss Chantelle. It’s nice to see you again.” He said smiling.
Chantelle scoffed taking off the glasses. “Thankfully I do not share your feelings. I am actually more keen on breaking the head of both yours and that criminal of a friend you have. But then I am too civil to get involved in w bloody mess like that. So here we are.”
Fernando had an amused look on his face in place of anger. “I am glad to see you regardless. What can I help you with?”
“It’s nothing much. I don’t know if telling you this alone will make an impact or if that criminal has to be here.”
“He might get you arrested for defamation of character. His name is Diego.”
“Do I look like I care? What is a mafia who feeds on other people’s misery called?”
He couldn’t argue that out with her. “Well, what can I say?”
“Back to the discussion. Kamara can’t have sex with your friend now. She would need a week to at least get her thoughts together. I want to believe you aren’t animals and have enough cells in your brain to reason differently.”
Fernando gasped in a bid to hold back his laughter. “The last time I checked Miss Chantelle, I am not the reason for the state your friend is in. However, I am a sweet person and wouldn’t mind putting a word for you.” He waited for her response to the last sentence. Instead, she eyeballed him without a word.
“How do we get to speak to him? I want to make myself clear today.” She started fixing her jaw.
The door opened letting in Diego. “Speak of the devil and he shows up. There is your man, Miss Chantelle. Bare your mind.” Fernando said.
Diego furrowed his brows, giving her a suspicious glare. “What are you doing here? Where is your friend?”
“Her name is Kamara just in case your brain got foggy and I am here to tell you that she won’t be getting intimate with you as soon as you expect. She needs about two weeks to recuperate.” Chantelle listed without mincing words.
Diego bit down on his lips as he stared at Fernando. “What is this?” He questioned.
Fernando spread his arms out. “Do you expect me to know?”
He sniffed turning back to her. “And if I say no?”
Chantelle laughed dryly. “Then you can go ahead and do your worse. She won’t be leaving that house to spend any time with you until two weeks is over. Try me and see who gets to win in the end.”
Diego took intimidating steps towards her, but she didn’t flinch. “Are you sure you are ready for this battle you are instigating?”
“Come on. What do you think you will say to the judge in court when you decide to sue? Hmmn? Say something. I can swear on my life that your dumb ass will end up spending a few days in jail for wanting to lay with a woman who just had a miscarriage barely two days after getting discharged. And trust me I have many allegations against you. You won’t even have the heart to say a word when I am done with you.” She gritted.
Fernando was almost forced to clap both hands in salute of her courage. Nana Isabella is the only one aside from Chantelle that has called him out on his bullshit. He couldn’t be more delighted to get a chance to experience the moment.
The veins on Diego’s face popped as he flared his nose at her. “Do you know trying so hard to be your friend’s savior will get you into trouble? Is she worth this stress?”
Chantelle hummed, mocking him. “I guess you have never had anyone who isn’t your blood relative love you dearly. I thought you both were friends. Or you are just fooling around?” She pointed at Fernando. “Anyway, I just want to be clear that I do not fear you. I am not one of your minions. Get over yourself. I have said my piece.
It’s up to you to decide if you want a good day.” She hissed leaving.
Fernando chortled as he held onto the table edge tightly. It’s been so long that he felt such excitement at the pit of his belly. Nothing prepared him for the things Chantelle said to Diego.
Diego sucked his teeth glaring at his friend. “I see you find this fun?”
“What? It’s funny and I am laughing. Why should I hide that? I didn’t realize I was restricted from expressing myself. Why are you here anyway? Didn’t you swear off the friendship?”
He rolled his eyes pulling a chair to sit in. “I didn’t realize having arguments is no longer normal.”
Fernando snorted returning his attention to his computer. Diego dragged his feet to get his attention. But he didn’t act like he noticed him.
Diego huffed in frustration. “Fine, I am sorry. I shouldn’t have spoken so rudely to you. And it isn’t right for me to behave like an asshole towards the lady. I was taught better than that.”
He sighed, raising his head. “You do know I am not trying to judge you. I know you do not like her. But that shouldn’t make you lose your conscience. As Chantelle said, they are not your minions. You can’t throw awful words at them and expect none of them to retaliate. Even though this was a deal, don’t forget how hard it was for you to get someone reasonable to do the job.”
“Yeah, whatever. Will I really get into trouble if I try to sue Kamara?”
“Definitely. You will have plenty of regrets about doing that. The judge won’t hesitate to give her three extra months to recuperate.”
“I can’t allow that.”
“Then you just have to let her have her way. It’s just seven days, don’t ruin what you have going. Lunch?”
“Will appreciate that.” Diego sneered standing up.
Fernando laughed to himself as he grabbed his jacket to join him.
