Diego’s POV
“Doctor, how does it make any sense that the same procedure you did to get her pregnant can’t be repeated again?” I asked putting the phone on loudspeaker.
The doctor coughed lightly on the other end. “Sir, the process is beyond just injecting the mix into her. She would have to go through the mental torture of getting her body ready and then carrying the eggs again with the same procedure would harm her. I have told you this before, please I need you to understand me. This is my professional advice, you will be putting a lot at risk if you don’t listen to me.
Just in case you intend to visit another doctor. If they get on with it, you are likely to have a murder case on your hands.”
I didn’t wait to hear the rest of what she had to say before ending the call. My head seems to be hurting from the news. To think I already made Nana rest assured she was going to have a grandchild soon.
That dumb head that calls herself Kamara just couldn’t stay in one place and had to ruin it all for me. It must be that stupid boyfriend of hers that I saw her with. They probably had sex causing the fetus to lose stability.
Clenching my fist tightly, I reached for the bottle of whiskey on the table drinking directly from it. I will make her bleed through her nose if she doesn’t cooperate. I hate to use force on women but she asked for it. If only I didn’t introduce her to Nana. It’s not just about the money. I have gone too deep into it now to back out. Also, she is obligated to honor the contract whether she likes it or not.
“Don’t you think you are being too hard on the girl?” Fernando asked, interrupting my thoughts. I had totally forgotten he was there.
I sniffed. “Didn’t she know what she signed up for? To think she had my baby in her belly and kept flirting around ignoring all that she was supposed to do and be cautious of. If I do this to her then this is me just being lenient.”
“That is not being lenient. You are acting like a total prick. She has a life before meeting you. Do you expect her to toss all of that aside just because of what you want?”
“Was she forced to sign the contract?”
Fernando groaned like he was frustrated. “Stop thinking about yourself for a split second and be more reasonable. I get that for every man that steps in your way because of the job you do, you end up cutting their lives short but that doesn’t apply in this case. The person you are dealing with is a woman carrying another life inside of her. Have you stopped to ask Nana for a moment what it feels like to lose a child?”
“So you think I am excited to sleep with her? She never even wanted the child in the first place.”
“She still lost a part of herself! The initial intention doesn’t mean a thing. Don’t forget my sister also had a miscarriage and you knew how hard it was for her to recover from the pain that came along. Therapy sessions went on for a year before she got back to herself.”
I blinked, unfazed by his persistent need to change my mind. “Read my lips, Fernando. I don’t give a fuck about whatever becomes of her as long as she provides me with a child. She signed that contract and she has to do as promised.”
He scoffed, “What was I expecting from you? For a man who determines the fate of anyone at the pull of his trigger. Why am I surprised? It’s not her fault that her family is in debt. Just because she desperately sought your help does not give you the right to trample on her.”
“The minute she stepped foot into my space, she knew what she was getting herself into. And I am not going to play nanny to anyone.”
“Diego for fucks sake! What is wrong with you? Nana trained you to be a better person than this. Why aren’t you giving this a thought?”
“You should have thought hard on it before asking me to get a woman to carry my child.”
He cursed under his breath. “Are you really going to be like this?” He stared at me like he had something more to say.
“Don’t even think of bailing her out. Kamara has to give me what I want or else she would have to pay back every fucking dime through her nose. That is a promise!”
Aiden walked in just in time to inform me about an unfinished business. Kissing my teeth, I opened the drawer next to me pulling out my gun. Without sparing Fernando a glance I stormed out of the office.
“What’s the situation?” I asked Aiden when we got into the car.
“Keith by name. He stole a bag of drugs to sell.”
“How much did that cost us?”
“A million.”
I scoffed at the huge amount of money hoarded by a single person. I expect everyone who works with me to know better than to toy with my money. In situations like this, I prefer handling it myself. Just in case there is a rival in check trying to use one of my men against me.
“Is this the home?” I asked staring at the shabby home on the
street. It looked like it had seen better days.
“Yes sir,” Aiden replied parking the car on the side.
Barging into the house, they said Keith was sprawled out on an old-looking couch with empty cans of beer lying around the dirty floor. Aiden kicked him awake. His eyes rounded like saucers at the effect before becoming fully aware.
“Hey there, Keith.” I beamed at him.
His lips quivered at the sight of the gun. I would have advised her to fear me more than the gun since I am the one who pulls the trigger. “W…who are you?”
Aiden pushed his head. “Do you not know me, even if you don’t recognize his face?”
“It’s okay, Aiden. There is no need to make introductions. I will go straight to the point. Why did you steal from me, Keith?” I asked pointing the gun at him after cocking it. Keith shivered so much I thought his teeth might fly out. “There is a possibility that I might let you be if you start speaking now.” I urged.
“I…I am sorry.” He stuttered. “I needed money to save my sister who needed to be operated on urgently to save her and the baby’s life. I was desperate. Please don’t kill me.”
“How much did you sell?” Aiden questioned.
Keith looked between the both of us like he feared to speak. “The man bought it for two hundred thousand dollars.”
“You bastard!” Aiden growled slapping his face. “Write down the address and name of the bastard you sold it to. You had better beg your stars that we find him. Or you will be a roasted meal.”
While scribbled down the address with shaky hands. I kept looking around the house and it didn’t even look good enough for our little one to grow in.
“Did she survive it?” I inquired surprising myself.
Keith blinked rapidly. “Y…yes sir. She was delivered by a beautiful girl. I only returned this morning to rest. I still have something left of the money i can return it.”
I got up, tucking my gun in my pocket. “Let’s go Aiden,” I said heading to the car with quick strides.
“Why?” He asked.
I sniffed turning my face to the window. “Just because,” I replied.
