Diego’s POV
Fernando chuckled loudly as he poured me a glass of whiskey.
“Damn, man! I have never met anyone who made you so speechless. She is fire.”
I kissed my teeth while taking a sip of the drink. “And I will gladly quench her. Why the hell would you give her a response like that?”
“I am a lawyer, I do not lie.”
“Well according to history you lots are the best liars to exist.”
“Fuck you!” He cursed, dumping himself on the couch. “She really is pregnant, then? You are lucky she chooses not to live with you. I hear women get really edgy when pregnant and with this one you are dealing with. You will have a lot of hard time. Nana will be so glad to hear the news.”
I grinned at his last sentence. “At least now she would know that I am not impotent.”
“Right on point.”
“Wait a minute. I don’t know where she stays.”
“What do you mean?”
“I mean I have no idea where Kamara stays,” I said.
“What do you need that for?” Fernando had a confused look on his face.
“I need to know if she is living in a conducive space for my unborn child. I can’t have my child being bred in a ghetto space.”
He laughed. “You are too damn full of yourself. Ask her then if she will tell you.”
“She gets on my every nerve. You will think she is some important person with all that attitude she puts up.” I snort.
“Well, I like her already.”
“Why is that?”
“Anyone that would put you in your place is my favorite person.”
“I hate your guts.”
“The feeling is mutual.”
Rolling my eyes, I gulped down the rest of my drink. Kamara sure has a way of igniting odd feelings inside of me. I wasn’t expecting her to give me that kind of order. But I like that she wouldn’t be the type to give in to my every order and challenge me when the need be. Many of the girls I hang around are always too quick to please me. This is a new feeling.
“What’s with the smirk?” Fernando asked cutting into my thoughts.
I raised a brow, eyeballing him. “How does that concern you? But on a second thought. I am really going to be a father? I am still not sure how I feel about the whole thing. Probably I will just have to wait to see how my thoughts align.”
“Tell Nana, that way her reaction will clear out what you might be thinking.”
“Yeah, now that we are on the topic I will head home now. Wasn’t expecting this news today.” I mused, reaching for my jacket.
“I should head out too. I have a date tonight.”
I raised my brow at his announcement. “Just admit you have a sneaky link instead. Aint nothing wrong with addressing your weakness.” I teased
“Shut up and leave.” Fernando bickered.
I laughed and left him to himself. Nana was by the garden reading through a book when I arrived at the house. She looks a bit relaxed even though her face seems tired. I have been worried about her for a while. I really hope this pregnancy news does it for her. Making my way to her, I hugged her from behind.
“How is my favorite woman doing?” I mumbled in her ear while kissing her cheeks.
She patted my hair lovingly. “There is my champ. How are you, mia cara?”
“I’m fine, Nana. What are you reading?”
She clasped the book shut quickly with a mischievous look in her eyes. “Smut.” She grinned in response.
I facepalmed myself feeling embarrassed on her behalf. “Is this some sort of a joke right now, Nana? What will someone as old as you be doing with that ridiculous book?”
“Oh please, I am still quite active. You are the one who thinks I am old.”
“If over seventy isn’t old I really don’t know what else is. I am going to ban those books from entering this house if you don’t find another hobby.” I threatened.
Nana snickered, “You will do no such thing. It has been advised medically that I do something nice for myself and be happy. And if you want me to be off it so bad. Get me a grandchild.”
I thinned my lips grinning from ear to ear. “Well, you finally got one. I hope that makes you happy.” I started reaching into my suit pocket for the result.
She blinked rapidly when I handed it to her. “Are you serious? Is this real? Who is the girl? How far gone is she? I need to meet with her and help her through the process.” She counted on in excitement.
I wanted to tell her not to get too excited as it is purely business. But then the joy on her face is everything. She would be disappointed to know that I practically blackmailed my way into getting a child. This is why I am going to lie to her face and hope the heavens have mercy and not strike me down for being a horrible grandson.
“Well, we did get together a couple of times. She just informed me and she is quite private. But you will meet her soon. This is just me telling you that I can father a child if I choose to.”
She reached for my face and pulled at my cheeks. “You have done well, mia cara. This is the best news I have heard in a long time.”
I smiled brightly showing off my teeth. “I am glad you feel this way.”
“Thank you for this, Diego. I can assure you it wasn’t my intention to pressure you. It just gets very draining spending most of my time alone. Please do me a favor and introduce the lady to me. I promise to not be a nuisance. I just want to meet her.” She requested.
I shifted in discomfort. “Nana, do you have to?”
“Please, Diego. I want to get to know her. Please.”
Nana hardly begs for anything. Hearing her use please twice in a sentence means a lot. I exhaled. “Alright. I will talk to her and then we fix a day. How about that?”
“It’s great.” She smiled. “Come with me. Let me fix you something to eat.”
My belly rumbled just in time and without hesitation I followed behind her in delight.
