Just then, I heard a faint stir from the bed, Nora was starting to wake up. I quickly composed myself, not wanting her to see the turmoil brewing inside me. As she opened her eyes, I forced a calm smile, trying to reassure her that everything would be okay. But deep down, I knew this was only the beginning of a very complicated and delicate situation.
She tried to get up or sit up I honestly have no idea, but I did run to stop her, “relax, you need all the rest you can get.” I said to her.
“But…”
“Shhh.. shhh.. hush, no but.” I said, but before I knew what was happening her hands flew at me to give me a slap, however I caught the hand before it could make contact with my skin, not that I really care about her hit, it was just a reflex action.
“Don’t you ever hush a lady.” She said as she pulled her hands from my grip.
“I’m sorry.” I said hiding the smile forming on my lips. “I just want you to be okay.” I continued.
“Well if it weren’t for you I won’t be in this situation in the first place.” She said rolling her eyes. “Now get out of my way I need something to eat.” She said trying to get up again.
“I know you’re very upset right now.”
“Of course I’m upset.” She interrupted.
“I know, I know. But why don’t you just lay back while I go and prepare something for you.” I tried soothing her as best as I can.
“I don’t need your help, I can totally make my food. You might not be a serial killer but you sure had other ways planned to end my life.” She said pushing me, she sure is strong for someone who has been unconscious.
“That’s not true, I’ll never do anything to harm you.”
“Say that to the people online.” She said, as she walked to the bathroom door and opened it, she closed it almost immediately. She walked to the dresser and opened the door as well but closed it immediately too.
“Where the fuck is the door out of this room ?” She said in sheer annoyance.
“If you had calmed down as I begged earlier you’d be out of the room by now.”
“You better swallow that male pride of yours, I’m not in the mood for it.” I laughed at her annoyance as she finally opened the last door that led outside the room.
I sat at the bed and I couldn’t help but feel bad at the statement she made earlier, how it was my fault she was in this situation in the first place. And the honest truth is that she’s right, I’m as much as fault as anyone else involved in this.
I was still engrossed in my thoughts when she flunked the door open.
“Who ever drew the plan for this house needs to be arrested.” I just sat there watching her with a smile plastered on my face.
“Why are you even smiling ? You’re enjoying my frustration, aren’t you ?” She said standing akimbo.
“Oooh, I sure am pretty,” I said, I noticed her eyes scanning the environment as if searching for something, and then, without warning, she walked over to the couch, grabbed a throw pillow, and hurled it at me.
“Hey, hey, hey.. someone is feisty tonight, calm down. You’re still not strong for all of these.” I said running to where she stood.
She scoffed and just pointed her hand to the direction of the door telling me to lead the way.
We made our way to the kitchen and after looking through the content of the refrigerator we settled for a bowl of soup and meatballs.
After so much persuasion on how I needed her to just sit down and do nothing, she finally let me prepare the food myself.
“How did you end up in where I found you ?” I asked as I turned on the gas to start my cooking. She didn’t say anything for over a minute or so, I turned to see what she was up to. She was seated on the table looking all beautiful on my shirt, which I’m certain she hasn’t noticed, her hair flowed down to her back with some strands falling to her face. She drew invisible circles on the table with her fingers avoiding eye contact with me.
“Nora…” I called walking up to her and placing both hands on her cheek so her eyes could meet mine.
“Were you trying to kill yourself.” Her eyes suddenly popped up like I had said something crazy. But what was I supposed to think when I found her unconscious like that, if she really wanted to kill herself thou she should have chosen a building that was at least 20feet tall, that way she would have gotten a better result.
“Hell no! Why will I want to do that? I was only trying to get out of the company, and didn’t realize the stairs has been removed.” She said bringing down her head.
“Weren’t you watching were you were going, or you thought you were very athletic and decided to jump.”
“I.. I.. thought I heard something in the dark, I was trying to get away from it, so I just flunked the door open and the next thing I saw was me flying.” She tangled her hair around her fingers and her lip was pouted in a very cute way.
I didn’t know when I released rolls and rolls of laughter.
“Stop laughing it isn’t funny.”
“So, a possible mice in the dark turned you to a super woman. Nora the flying princess.” I teased her as she attempted to hit me but I ran away before she could. She chased after me and I immediately dashed into the sitting room.
“You better come back here.”she yelled, I ran to the center of the sitting room and she didn’t hesitate to come after me.
I slipped and fell on the couch and because she was so close to me she slipped as well and landed on me.
We both stared at each other, our eyes locked in a staring contest. And like there was a force drawing us to each other we locked our lips together.
I cupped the side of her neck, caressing her earlobe, I kiss her bottom lip, sucking on it so gently.
And when her lips parted, I stole my chance and moved my tongue smoothly into her mouth, exploring every corner of it.
“Ray.” She moaned my name as if remembering to breath, the way she said my name sent shivers down my spine.
I smelled something, but couldn’t quite figure out what or where the smell was coming from.
I was more interested in savoring this beautiful creature in front of me, however before I could process what was going on she jumped up from me.
“The foooood!!!.”
I sprang to my feet and ran to the kitchen, Nora close behind. I got there just in time to see the smoke alarm flashing, and the air was thick with the smell of burnt food. I quickly turned on the exhaust fan, trying to clear the air.
Nora burst out laughing, her eyes shining with mirth. “Well, I guess that’s one way to ruin a meal,” she said, holding her sides.
I couldn’t help but join in, feeling a mix of relief and frustration. “I guess I’m not the best cook,” I admitted, shaking my head.
Nora wiped tears from her eyes. “I think it’s safe to say that,” she said, still chuckling.
We stood there for a moment, laughing and enjoying the absurdity of the situation.
