There was nothing Alita didn’t pray for. She closed her eyes and attempt to Raise her hands and strangle herself but she was too weak to even breathe well. If only she could get up and find her way to the toilet, she could at least drown herself in the closet but nothing in her could move.
“Forgive me Mom” she cried.
Her heartache as she remembered Gio. She wonders how Luciano would be treating him now or how he would be coping as he finds out that she is no longer around for him.
Her lips quivered as she imagined if he does not have the idea that she had been missing. After all, most of her stay there with Luciano, she never gets to see her brother. They only get limited time or talk on the phone, sometimes they don’t and they were not allowed to send messages.
As she lay naked on the cold floor, she prayed for everything a dead person could pray for. She prayed for her parents to welcome her, she prayed that Gio finds happiness at last.
“Dear God!” She whimpered “Please protect my boy” she pleaded.
She prayed for Mercy, Mercy for her soul to be accepted in heaven.
Memories of Sunday services she had attended with Mama Samantha replayed. A faint smile appeared on her face as she imagine how the paradise Father Lorenzo had been talking about.
Suddenly, she began to realize how sweet his preaching had been. Her faint smile increase as she realized how it had suddenly made her prepare for the afterlife until a quote caught her attention.
For this is a day for the Lord God of host, a day of vengeance!
The smile wiped off her face as she stared at the ceiling blankly. Seconds ago, she was determined to die now she doesn’t know if she really wants to still avenge herself instead of Leaving “Vengeance to God” as the Bible had said.
All color drained out from her face as she listened to the door made rusty sounds. Fear gripped her as she shook visible and moved her palms on the floor desperately in need to find something. More fears and hopelessness consumed her as she didn’t find anything but had to wait for the door to open.
A pissed-looking Rocco walked in. His fist was clenched and could barely stay close to him as he walked in rage to her. His hungry eyes roam around the room in surprise before he looked back at Alita and brought out a dagger from his pocket.
“Rocco?” Alita gasped immediately she saw the dagger “I need to tell you something” she said in a cold whisper.
Rocco glared at her before he scoffed, his hungry eyes went all over her weak body as he rolled his eyes them look away. He flipped the dagger open and turned to walk out of the room when he heard Alita say something he didn’t expect he would hear her say.
“You say?” He intoned as he turned back.
Alita forced a smile on her face. Her lips hurt more as she tried to make the smile wider.
“I say I accept you, Rocco, I belong to you” Alita mentally cringed as Rocco walked to her “I am sorry it took so long” Tears filled her eyes as she let them flow down the corner of her eyes.
In fear, rage, and pain, Alita watched Rocco take shaky steps towards her. At first, she wanted to curl but that would be a wrong turn for Rocco so she stay still.
“Don’t tell me you are joking” Rocco dropped the dagger on getting close to her and went down on one knee “Why to stay all this while before admitting it?”
His face showed how sad he was as he moved her hair off her face and bent a bit to meet her face. A toothy grin appeared on his face as he sigh and eyed the mess he had done to her face.
“I still did kiss you over again” Rocco blurted out.
As soon as he was low enough, Alita raised her left hand with the last strength she has and forced Rocco’s dagger into his neck. A sly sneer appeared on her face as she stared at his terrified look as he held the dagger and move away from her.
“You lied!” Rocco said before he fell.
“I lied to keep you from still being an asshole” Alita whispered as she stretched to stare at him well.
Just like it be, Rocco laid In his pool of blood. His eyes were shut as his hand dropped from his neck and relaxed on the floor. It wiggled once before finally stopping.
Alita heaved a deep sigh of relief and fear at the same time as she stared at Rocco then the door. She knows that if he stays too long, the rest men will come for him and if they see him dead, that would be the end for her.
No matter how she kept telling herself to prepare for her end it still refused to come. She sighed before blinking back the tears in her eyes, the last thing that she would want is to miss her tears with Rocco’s blood on her body.
After taking steady breaths, Alita summoned the last strength she has and stood up. If she can at least get out of the room a miracle might occur.
Frankly, she doesn’t believe in miracles but at that moment that was all she need. Her strength would fail her as she could barely stand to her feet much more walking to the door.
Her heart kept pounding loud as if it would jump out. Her scared gaze didn’t leave the door as she stood on her shaking legs and anticipated for whatever would be out there.
After watching around for a weapon and getting none, she rushed to Rocco and pulled the dagger off his neck. Alita heard something like a gulping sound before a splash of blood gushed out the dead man’s neck.
For what she didn’t understand, there was no sign of fear. She wasn’t even shaking as she was the last time she mistakenly killed a man in her house. With the anger burning inside of her, she forced the dagger back into his neck and pulled it out.
She continued doing it until her face, hands, and floor were filled with blood, Rocco’s blood. If reincarnation was real, Alita believes Rocco would not be able to reincarnate for a thousand years until his neck fully heals.
Still, on her knees, she was staring at Rocco’s dead body breathing hard as she had just run a marathon race. Something like a low growl escaped her throat as she lifted her hands and attempt to stab his chest but the door burst open.
In terror, she slowly looked up to be faced with the face of the person she least expected.
Alita’s brows connected as she dropped the dagger and stared at Mia in confusion. With the look of things, the girl looked too scared of her. She didn’t even blink, just kept staring at Alita then Rocco’s dead body.
“What are you doing here?” Anita asked in a sharp whisper.
“We will talk about what happened later but I can’t leave you behind,” Mia said as she walked inside.
She walked to Alita, bent her back in front of her, and turned to look at Alita.
“We don’t have much time,” Mia said sternly “The rest girls are outside, if you don’t come, they will never forget me” she added.
Alita stared at her for some time before she stands up and climbed onto the girl’s back. She wrapped her hands on the girl’s neck but not tightly.
“I am ready,” she said.
