Very early the next morning Alita felt someone tap her chin gently, at first, she thought it would be Rocco as usual to ask her if she has finally become ready to be his. Not wanting to see him or get any of this cruel punishment, she stayed still like she was still fast asleep.
“I know you can hear me” A strange voice mumbled “But you have to listen to me” the people paused.
Still, Alita refused to move, she just laid on her stomach waiting for Rocco to arrive. Even when she noticed how desperate the lady was, she still doesn’t want to have anything to do with her. She could tell it was a woman due to her meek and melodious voice, when they say someone has the voice of an angel, she is a perfect example.
Her soft palm felt cold on Alita’s chin as she tapped her again. Her tiny fingers brushed the hair of Alita’s face as she lean closer and whispered to her ears.
“Your friends are not understanding my SOS message,” she said “What do you have in mind to help us escape?” Her voice lowered.
Alita’s weak green eyes flick open to stare at a young woman in front of her. The person should be about her age and had a very beautiful set of eyes. Her hair was covered under the grey hoodie she wore, her face looks hidden under the black face mask she had in her face.
Even her wrists were covered, just her left palm could be seen. The stranger had removed her gloves to feel Alita’s temperature when she first entered the room. Mere looking at her, she looks like a spy in disguise for only her left palm and green eyes could be seen.
That was enough to make Alita shut her eyes and fall back to sleep. She had been into a lot of betrays and trusting someone that is not willing to show her face is worth not dying for.
“Alita!” The girl said “You have to listen to me please” she pleaded.
Nevertheless, Alita refused to move again, she opened her eyes and stared at the girl blankly. Her eyes were fixed to the girl’s green eyes and a little scar she could see right beneath the left eye.
“I am here to help you” the girl whispered, she paused for a while before slowly raising her hand to place it on Alita’s bareback.
“Don’t touch me!” Alita said suddenly groaning.
It came out rough, not matching the dryness of her throat and she coughed. Her eyes snapped wide open as she tried to hold her hurting throat but the chains on her wrists restricted her.
“Here” the girl brought out a bottle of water from under her hoodie, she opened it and placed it under Alita’s Lips “I can’t poison you,” she smiled weirdly.
After waiting for some while and Alita refused to open her, the girl raised her head and drank from the water. She looked at Alita who still had the doubtful look on her face and she had to drink more till the water went half the bottle.
Even at that, Alita still refused to open her mouth. She watched the girl in silence as if waiting for a reaction but as none came, she opened her mouth.
“Waiting for me to die?” The girl gave a low chuckle as she fed Alita the water “I won’t do you any harm” she said as she pets Alita’s hair with her other hand.
Her brows lifted as Alita began to give her ocean eyes after she had finished the water. She shook the empty plastic before dropping it to the floor.
“Don’t give me that look” She said sadly “That was all the water I had and you made me drink half of it” the corner of her lips lifted into a cute smile as she brought out a sausage from her pocket “Want me to have a bite too?”
Alita forced a smile as she opened her mouth, immediately the sausage reached her lips, she took a big bite.
“Slow down” the girl whispered “You won’t want to choke with no water around” she warned.
Still, Alita barely chews the sausage before swallowing. When she was done, she stared blanking at the girl, with no emotions, not even a word. Her gaze homed on the mask on the girl’s face before moving to her eyes.
The look in the girl’s eyes looks like she understood Alita’s unspoken words and she held the left ear side of the Mask. She stared at Alita as if she was afraid to reveal her identity.
She sigh deeply before she finally lowered her head and removed the mask, her neck remain down for a few seconds before she looked up.
Alita gasped, her eyes remained wide open as she stared at the girl’s face in mixed emotions. Tears filled her eyes, blocking her vision and she had to blink once and let the tears flow freely.
The faint scar Alita had noticed under the girl’s left eye has a huge connection to an ugly-looking scar that ran through her chin to her left ear. Her eyes were moist as she was trying to fight back the burning tears in her eyes.
The girl’s small red lips quivered. Her left palm covered her face as she looked around in search of her mask.
“We all have our scars” Alita whispered.
The girl stopped, she looked deeply into Alita’s eyes before letting her tears flow. A faint smile spread across her face as she removed the Hoodie from her head, exposing her long red hair.
“You are beautiful” Alita gasped “Scars or no scars, you are the most beautiful person I have come across and I will never forget you” she beamed.
She stared at the girl in silence as she wore back her mask and tuck her long red hair back inside her hoodie. Her eyes caught glimpse of the girl’s still open palm, she noticed a tiny silver bracelet on her wrist and stared up back at the girl’s face.
“It’s was my mother’s,” The girl said “She is back at home, waiting for me to come back after three years”
Three years!!
Pain, fear, and rage flood through Alita’s body. She wonders how the girl would have been here for three years and what she must have been through. She fears that she might not be able to leave Rocco’s hell until when she would have no idea of who she truly is.
She looked at her palm as the girl gave her a tiny metal, it looks like it was from a decoupled watch or device. The weird curves it has made it look more of a key or a missing part of a machine.
“This can open the locks,” The girl said in a hurry, she stood up after picking up the empty bottle “All it needs is patient”
She hurried to the door as if she just suddenly realized her time has been up. She stared behind at Alita then smile.
Although Alita could not see the smile she could tell the girl had a smile on her face. The way her eyes narrowed and small parts of her scar became visible, it indeed looks like a cute smile.
“Try to act like a good girl,” she said “The Master key to all the locks in this place is always in his left pocket” her fingers wrapped around the handle as she turned it slowly.
“Wait!” Alita whispered, “What’s your name?” She asked.
“Mia” the girl replied
“Thank you, Mia” Alita forced out a cracked smile.
“He will soon be here, please, try not to sleep” the girl rapped “And be patient”
Alita strives to turn at the door if she could at least see the girls back. The tight chains kept restricting her, not even to bend a hit because the next thing she saw was Rocco walking into the room.
Her mind skipped a beat and nearly exploded, she fear for Mia, what if Rocco had seen her? Will she end up like Tamara, the girl that was shot in the head yesterday for trying to help her?
The atmosphere became conjuring as she noticed she could barely breathe. She felt her head spin as the fear of another person dying because of her traumatized her.
Slowly, she forced the pin into the bed and rested her body waiting for the worst like usual but things changed. Rocco unlocked the chains and threw his jacket at her.
“Don’t worry” he said “You only need to wash up and have to be out to see Zeno for a few minutes” he grinned and yanked her hair “I am sure you guys have met before, but now, it would be under different circumstance” he sneered “Make sure you satisfy him” he added as he hurled her out the room.
