After I don’t know how long, but more than half of the day, we landed in America. To say I wanted to come back under different circumstances would be an understatement. I really wished there was some way I could get rid of Theodore-apart from killing him-but after witnessing Theodore’s power and influence I knew it was next to impossible.
We made our way out of the airport into a black Mercedes. I couldn’t help but notice that this car was black, too, as well as the Range Rover I was forced to ride in earlier. Did he have an obsession with the color black? Maybe he wanted me to get a glimpse of his soul-black.
“What’s your favorite color?” I blurted out suddenly, then slapped my hand over my mouth in order to stop anything else spewing out.
“Black.” Theodore stated with a slight frown. Confusion evident in his dark eyes.
I burst out laughing at hearing his answer, causing his frown to deepen. How predictable was this man. Okay, maybe not so predictable, I thought when my mind travelled back to what transpired a few hours ago.
“Why are you laughing?” Theodore inquired, his voice husky for some odd reason, causing a shiver to run down my spine.
“Oh nothing, it’s just your cars are black, so I figured it was your favorite color, and then to have you tell me your favorite color was black just had me laughing cause I guessed your favorite color.” I told him, but thought that I laughed at such a stupid thing.
Theodore scrutinized me for a few seconds, making me squirm under his penetrating gaze. I wondered what exactly was he hoping to find by looking deep into my eyes.
He averted his eyes and shook his head, then turned to look out the window without saying anything. Weird.
~*~*~*~*
After 20 minutes, the car stopped in front of Benson Enterprises. I groaned internally at seeing the lofty, glass building. After such an eventful trip from America to Canada then back to America, I was exhausted. I wanted nothing more than to go to my apartment and take a nice, long bubble bath, and to devour a tub of mint-chocolate chip ice cream. But I guess I wasn’t getting my wish tonight.
The driver opened my door and I slipped out of the car, and saw Theodore walking purposefully inside the building. My stomach twisted in knots at seeing him act in a distant manner. From what I’ve gathered with my confrontations with Theodore up till now, was that if he wasn’t constantly dominating me, then there was something wrong.
I blew out a breath but followed Theodore inside, even though all I really wanted was to go home and relax. However, seeing Theodore acting in such a manner had me concerned, for some strange, unknown reason.
You’re doing this because you like him, because you care. You want to make sure he’s alright, my conscience spoke up all of a sudden. I dismissed its remarks about me caring for Theodore and hurried over to see him getting in the elevator. I slipped in just in time to see the doors sliding shut. Then, absolute silence.
I didn’t realize how much I missed Theodore talking until now that he wasn’t saying anything. The silence in the elevator started to make my skin crawl, and Theodore’s added prescence did nothing but make me nervous. I didn’t realize I was chewing my bottom lip until Theodore’s voice broke the silence, and I bit my lip causing a sharp pain to slice my lip.
“Stop doing that.” He ordered, causing me to jump in surprise.
“Stop what?” I asked confused. I lifted my finger to my lip to check if it was bleeding, only to see the tip covered in red. Theodore saw my bloody finger, and his eyes went from being distant to angry in two seconds flat.
He pressed a button on the elevator which caused it to stop. Then grabbed me by my upper arms and pushed until my back met with the elevator wall, effectively trapping me. He cupped my face and traced my bottom lip with his thumb. His thumb removed the blood lingering on my lip and brought it in front of his eyes. For a few seconds, he just gazed at crimson liquid adorning his thumb, inspecting it as if it was something he never saw in his life. I, in turn, was growing more confused at witnessing his behavior.
Then he did something that had my eyes wide in utter shock. He licked his thumb, with my blood on it. Can someone please say, eww. But for some crazy reason, the action caused heat to pool in my nether regions, and a blush colored my cheeks.
After what seemed like forever, Theodore pulled out his thumb from his mouth amd turned his gaze to me. I knew I had his undivided attention from the way his eyes inspected every single inch of my body, making me feel as if it were his hands and not his eyes that were taking their sweet time learning everything about my body.
He cupped my cheek and caressed it with his thumb, causing my eyes to close involuntarily at the tender gesture. “Don’t ever do that again. I don’t want to see your lips bleeding ever again, unless,” he brought his lips closer, “I am the one making them bleed.” He then softly kissed me for a few seconds, before letting me go and pressing a button that had the elevator moving again.
All I could muster was one word after this. Wow.
The ding of the elevator broke me out of my thoughts of Theodore kissing and doing all sorts of unspeakable things to me, and we both walked out and over to Theodore’s office. I still wondered why Theodore brought me to his office at this time of the night. I was sure that if it was work related then he could’ve told me in the morning.
Once inside his office, Theodore strode over to a wooden door situated in the furthest corner of his office and unlocked it using his keys. Now, I was even more confused. What in the world was this man upto.
“Get in.” He ordered and waited for me to comply.
I didn’t want to, but I knew by the look in his eyes that he would not take a ‘no’ for an answer. With my stomach still in knots, I shuffled over to where Theodore stood and walked inside.
I was shocked to discover that it was a bedroom. Fully furnished with a large bed covered with dark satin sheet and plenty of pillows. There was a dressing table as well as the side tables. There was another wooden door, which I assumed was the bathroom, and even a closet.
The door closed with a soft thud. I turned to look around and saw Theodore locking the door, which caused my heart rate to spike. He walked over to the closet and took something out, then turned back and strode over to stand in front of me until only a few inches separated us.
“Wha-what’s going on Theodore, what are you doing?” I asked, fear and confusion lacing my voice.
“Making sure to let you know that the time for running away from me is over, Hailey.” Theodore replied, causing my fear to double.
“Wha-wh-what do you mean?”
His only response was to raise his hand and what I saw made the blood in my veins freeze.
A pair of handcuffs.
