AMELIA couldn’t contain her joy as she sat at her vanity, brushing her long, golden hair. The morning light streamed through the open window, casting a warm glow over her room.
Her heart danced with happiness at the thought that she was back in Jeremy’s life. She felt as if she were floating on air, her every thought consumed by his smile, his touch, and the promise of a future together.
The night before was awesome, even though it Jeremy had acted cold towards her all through, she had the freedom around him again since the last time in years.
She had spent the night in his room, although nothing happened, but she had slept on his bed, beside him. She had also bossed the maids around as she used to, asked them what dinner to prepare, and then she had brought in Jeremy’s dinner to him in the room.
They wined and dined together, she even fed him at intervals. Oh gosh! What else could be more than that? She was so over the moon.
With a determined glint in her eyes, Amelia rose from her seat and made her way downstairs to find her father.
Mr. Redford was seated in his grand study as usual, a place that exuded old-world charm with its dark wood paneling and shelves lined with leather-bound books. He looked up from his papers as Amelia entered, his stern features softening at the sight of his daughter’s radiant smile.
“Father, I have wonderful news,” Amelia announced, unable to keep the excitement from her voice.
Redford set aside his papers and gestured for her to sit.
“Oh really? Tell me, my dear. What has you so elated this beautiful morning?”
She laughed.
“It is a beautiful morning indeed,” she said as she sat down.
Mr. Redford nodded, waiting in anticipation of the wonderful news.
Amelia sat across from him, her eyes sparkling with joy.
“Jeremy and I are back together. He wants to start over, to make things right between us.”
Redford’s eyes widened with surprise.
“Huh! Are you sure?”
She nodded vigorously.
“Hmm mm, I am,” she said.
“Okay,” he leaned forward, “so what makes you think so?”
“Well I was at his place yesterday night, we did things we had never done before, he didn’t ask me to leave, he allowed me stay,” she said giggling.
His eyes widened with surprise before a smile splitted his face.
“That is splendid news, Amelia. I always believed the two of you were meant to be.”
Amelia nodded eagerly.
“I want to tell Jeremy’s father, Mr. Petersons, right away. He should know that his son and I are together again, I do not want to take chances this time around.”
Redford rose from his chair, his expression one of determination.
“Then let’s not waste any time, this is what I have been working for. I will arrange a meeting with Petersons immediately. This calls for a celebration.”
A broad smile appeared in her face.
“Ohh daddy, you are the best daddy in the world,” she said as she got up as well and hugged him.
He laughed.
“But hold on,” they disengaged from the hug, “how did you do it? I have been doing everything I could to make this work, even asked you to go on a vacation but yet, nothing. How did you do it you this quick witted child?” He asked.
She burst into laughter.
“You underestimated me father. I am the daughter of my father remember?” She winked.
He nodded knowingly.
“I see, let me go arrange for the meeting, you find something sweet to put on.”
Her eyes widened.
“Huh! Am I going with you as well?” She asked and he nodded.
“Sure sweetie, now go, go,” he said and giggling like a four year old toddler, she ran out of the study.
It was later that afternoon, they didn’t wait a day, to them, it was dangerous and risky to.
Redford and Amelia found themselves seated in the Peterson’s family’s opulent drawing room. The walls were adorned with fine art, and the room exuded a sense of refined elegance.
Mr. Petersons, the distinguished man with silver hair and a commanding presence, greeted them warmly.
“Redford, Amelia, it is a pleasure to see you both,” he said, extending a hand in welcome.
“To what do I owe this unexpected visit?”
Redford clasped Petersons’ hand firmly, his smile unwavering. “Petersons, we have wonderful news to share. Amelia and Jeremy are back together.”
Petersons’ eyebrows shot up in surprise, and he looked from Redford to Amelia, who nodded enthusiastically.
“Is that so? Well, that is indeed good news.”
Redford leaned forward, his excitement palpable.
“We believe it’s time to start planning their future together. An engagement, and then the wedding. What do you say?”
His expression turned thoughtful as he leaned back in his chair.
“That is wonderful to hear, Redford. But I think we should inform Jeremy first, don’t you? He should be part of this conversation.”
Redford waved a dismissive hand. “There is no need to worry about that, Petersons. I have got it all covered. Let’s not waste time with unnecessary delays. We should focus on the engagement and wedding plans.”
Petersons’ gaze sharpened as he regarded Redford.
“I appreciate your enthusiasm, Redford, but this is a significant step. Jeremy needs to be involved in this decision. It is his life, after all.”
Amelia’s heart sank slightly at his words. She understood his concern, but she couldn’t bear the thought of any delays. She turned to her father, hoping he would find a way to convince him see reasons.
“Petersons,” Redford said, his tone firm but amiable, “I assure you, Jeremy will be thrilled with the news. He and Amelia have a strong bond. Trust me, this is the right path forward.”
He sighed, a mixture of concern and resignation in his eyes.
“Redford, I want what is best for our children, just as you do. But we must approach this with care. Jeremy’s happiness and willingness to commit are crucial.”
Redford placed a reassuring hand on his shoulder.
“I understand your concerns, my friend, but let’s not forget the happiness this union will bring. Amelia and Jeremy have found their way back to each other. We should support them and move forward with confidence.”
Petersons remained silent for a moment, his mind weighing the options. Finally, he nodded slowly.
“Alright, Redford. I will trust your judgment on this, but promise me, we will inform Jeremy as soon as possible. He deserves to know.”
Redford smiled triumphantly.
“Of course, Petersons. I give you my word.”
Amelia’s heart swelled with relief and excitement. She couldn’t wait to tell Jeremy about the plans, to see his reaction when he learned that their future together was being set in motion. She envisioned the engagement party, the joy on their families’ faces, and the beautiful wedding that would follow.
As they left the Howard residence, Amelia held her father’s arm tightly, feeling a renewed sense of hope and determination.
“Thank you daddy for this,” she said and he smiled.
So over the moon, she couldn’t wait to tell the latest development to Zoey.
As soon as they had left, Mr. Petersons went into his room, worried sick over the newest development, he knew his son and what he was capable of. Jeremy would never accept Amelia back into his life and not let them know.
He was still deep in thought when his wife came in, she had been at the garden busy with her crochet work.
“Are you okay?” She asked and he slowly turned to her.
“Can you believe this?”
“What?” She asked.
“Jeremy has finally accepted Amelia,” he said, his face downcast.
Her face lit up.
“Wow! Finally, that is great news, oh my!” She exclaimed.
He looked at her.
“Great news? How if I may ask?”
The expression on her face quickly changed.
“What is wrong with that? Isn’t that what we have always wanted?”
“Really? Come on Jenny, you know your son, how come he had accepted Amelia out of the blues and didn’t let us know?”
She frowned.
“So?”
“I suspect foul play.”
Her shoulders fell.
“Always suspecting, just like your son. What foul play?”
“Jeremy doesn’t love this girl, you know it, so, so -,” he trailed off and she sighed.
“When has he fell in love?” She helped him out.
“Exactly. When? Besides, they immediately decided to plan an engagement party and without even letting him know about it.”
Her eyes twitched.
“Really?”
“Yeah. I’m quite befuddled.”
She sighed deeply, then walked up to her husband and gave him a comforting pat on his shoulder.
“We can find out without causing issues,” she said.
“How?” He looked at her.
“Invite them over for dinner tomorrow evening, then tell him you would be inviting the Redford family as well, if he honours it, then we know it’s true,” she said.
“Hmmm,” he mouthed and nodded, “I will do that straightaway,” he said.
