AS if nature concurred with her that evening, she was dressed in a sleek black ensemble that screamed authority, she exuded an air of deadly elegance as she strode through the well lit hallway, her destination was the stronghold of Lord Lucas, he has just crossed an unforgivable line, just touched the tail of the tigress.
She got to the stairs and immediately rushed down, heading for the exit door. There in the living room, Gabriella, the maid she had earlier given instructions before leaving bumped into her.
“Oh! Ma’am, leaving again?” She inquired.
“Yeah, but would be back in a jiffy,” she replied without even as much as a glance at her.
“Oh!”
“Do take care of your Boss, he hadn’t touched the food,” she shouted as she got to the door.
“Oh! Why?” She rhetorically asked, “okay ma’am,” she shouted her response and immediately took the stairs.
She got outside and headed for her Jeep, jumped into it and immediately revved up the engine, the lights of the headlamps came on, lightening up the whole place, as night had already begun to draw nigh.
She drove backwards out of the garage and set the car towards the gate, it slid open and she drove out, hitting the road instantly and driving ferociously as the smooth tyres kissed the tarmac.
As she drove, her thoughts travelled. She knew what Lucas’ mission was all about, she knew where he was driving at.
She knew he had set his sights on Jeremy, the man who had unwittingly stolen her heart. He was innocent, a man who had never knowingly engaged in the dangerous games of the underworld, but his success and influence had made him a target, and Lucas had been relentless in his pursuit to bring him down, attacking him at every slight opportunity, she knew all these, right from time.
But right now, having done enough damage already, all she now know was that she had to put an end to it, once and for all.
She had been so deep in her thoughts that she didn’t even realize when she got to his estate, and she pulled up to his fortified mansion.
The guards, recognizing her, let her through without question, their respect and fear evident. She didn’t even drive up to the parking lot, she just halted few yards away from the gate and alighted. A guard walked up to her immediately.
“Where is your Boss?” She asked.
“He is at a party, -.”
“Call him out, tell him to meet me in his study,” she said rudely cutting him short and immediately, she walked away.
Partying right? He is making merriments of the disaster he had done obviously. She winced, fisting her hands as she did.
As she walked through the grand foyer, her heels clicking on the marble floor, she mentally prepared herself for the confrontation ahead.
She got to his study and entered, a room filled with dark wood, leather-bound books, and the scent of expensive cigars. She began pacing about, impatient to see him.
It didn’t take up to ten minutes when she heard his cackling menacing laughter as he approached. She closed her eyes and backed the door.
“Holy moly! It is fucking true,” he said as he entered, his voice smooth and mocking. “To what do I owe the pleasure My Lady?” He added admiring her back view beauty.
“Cut the crap, Lucas,” Jasira snapped, her eyes blazing.
“We need to talk,” she added.
He raised an eyebrow, and walked to his seat, sinking into it. “About what?” He asked, “oh before we begin the talk, I heard something, is it true? Is that why you are here? Have you finally accepted my proposal?” He rushed his words.
She scoffed.
“Jeremy Petersons,” she said, ignoring his questions, her tone icy. “You need to back off. Now, like now.”
For a moment all Lucas could do was stare at her as though he had seen a ghost, his mouth fell open and she feared an insect would fly in.
Then as if he recognized himself, he chuckled, a low, dangerous sound.
“Is that why you drove all the way down here?” He asked.
“Lucas back off, enough is enough,” she said coldly, staring straight into his eyes.
“And why would I do that? He is a threat to my operations. Eliminating him is just good business.”
“He is no threat to you,” Jasira retorted. “He is an innocent man, and you know it, we all know it. Your vendetta against him is personal and unwarranted. I’m telling you to stay away from him,” she spoke with authority.
His smile faded, replaced by a cold, calculating look.
“And if I refuse?”
Jasira stepped closer, her gaze never wavering.
“Kennedy and Katherine had been my business for many weeks now,” she uttered.
His face went pale instantly, the blood draining from his cheeks.
“How the hell do you know about them?” He hissed, fury and panic mixing in his eyes.
She smiled satisfactorily.
“That doesn’t matter,” she replied, her voice deadly calm.
“What matters is that I know, and I can make that information public. Imagine what your enemies would do if they found out about your precious children. Ohh! How they would become easy meat for preys and begin to be hunted down, how you gonna be running helter skelter daily trying to find protection for them -.”
He immediately got up, slamming his hands on the desk.
“You wouldn’t dare.”
“Try me,” she challenged, her expression unyielding.
“You know I will if it means protecting Jeremy. This is your only warning, Lucas. Leave him alone, or face the consequences.”
For a moment, the room was filled with tense silence, the two mafia leaders locked in a battle of wills. Wild thoughts travelled through Lucas’ thinking faculty in a flash, how did she get to know about his secret, his children? And why is she so much interested in Jeremy? Was he the reason for her quitting the family? There were just no clues nor answers to his puzzles.
Finally, he spoke, his voice low and venomous.
“You think you can come into my territory and threaten me? You think you can dictate terms to me?” He asked, still trying to compose himself.
She smiled, expecting it.
“I think you know I can,” she replied, “and I think you know that I’m not bluffing either. This isn’t a game, Lucas. This is about life and death, of your precious twins, your Kenny and Kathy. Your children’s lives are at stake. Are you willing to risk them over a petty grudge?”
He glared at her, but the resolve in his eyes began to waver. He knew Jasira wasn’t one to make idle threats, and the fear of losing his children outweighed his desire for revenge.
“I can see you really went far with your findings,” he said, she had just mentioned their pet names, the names he alone calls them.
She simpered licking her lips.
“You have seen that yourself.”
He fumed.
“Fine,” he spat, anger lacing his words, “I will back off, fine,” he loved his kids so much, they meant the whole world to him and he just wasn’t ready to trade with their lives.
She nodded, a grim satisfaction settling in her chest.
“Good boy. I will take my leave now, it was sweet doing business with you. Just remember, Lucas- if anything happens to Jeremy or anything that matters to him again, I will give you that pleasure of saying what would happen yourself,” she chuckled, brought down her face to him and pecked him on the lips.
He just looked on like a maroon.
With that, she turned and walked out of the study, leaving him seething in her wake. She got out and jumped into her Jeep, and off she went.
As she exited the mansion, her mind was already racing with thoughts of Jeremy, she was so happy she did this, at least, a part of his problems had been solved.
“I will do anything to protect you my love,” she said, “anything,” she added and gripped the steering, increasing her speed and speeding along the dark street with all ferocity.
