THE door flew open and Jasira rushed in, quickly slamming the door behind her, then she rested her back on it panting heavily.
“Oh my! What just happened out there?” She rhetorically asked, just then, a heavy knock on the door followed, and she shook.
“Little cat?” The voice of the intruder called out loudly, it was Lord Lucario.
The knock came again.
“Open up will you?” He asked and she kept mute, panting heavily, cupping her right hand over her mouth.
He knocked and knocked and when he didn’t get a response, he turned and finally left.
As Jasira found out he had left, she left the door and slowly walked up to the bed, and she flopped down on it.
For the past one hour she had been outside on the field mobilizing some men for a mission, Lord Lucario and some other tops of the organization were present.
Unknowingly, she had mentioned the name Jeremy seven times, it was at the seventh time that she couldn’t take it anymore and she had to run out of the field and back to her room.
What happened was that, one of the men, his name was Jason and whenever Jasira wanted to call him, she would instead call Jeremy, and after realizing that, she would ‘oops’ and apologize.
Up to seven times she did call that name and it had begun raising eyebrows, she had to flee the scene.
“What the hell is wrong with me? Why am I suddenly seeing Jeremy everywhere I go? And why is his name on my lips?” She questioned rhetorically.
“Hmm, no answers,” she said.
Immediately her phone rang, jolting her to her feet. It was beside her on the bed, she quickly picked it up. A smile immediately played on her lips, it was the talk of the devil.
“Baby?” He was the first to speak.
“Hi dear, aren’t you busy? You always call at every given break from work,” she said.
“Call it whatever you wish to. How is your Friday like? Friday noon?” He asked.
“Another date?” She asked, her eyes glistening.
“Mm, not really a date. Remember you once mentioned that you wanna get a house or something like it.”
“Oh! You found one already?” She questioned, almost interrupting him.
“Let’s say something like it, so would you be free?” He asked again.
“Well yeah, sure,” she replied without even bothering to check out her schedule.
“Alright then, see you. Hope your day is going fine?”
She nodded like he could see her.
“Pretty well, and yours?”
“Same. I gotta go now.”
“Alright then, talk to you later,” and with that they hung up.
***Friday***
Jasira aka Boss J, the renowned Mafia Queen of The Mambas Organization sat in her posh and lavish study that fateful morning, her elbows on the desk, and her chin rested on the back of her palm clenched together.
The room, decorated in rich mahogany and dark leather, exuded power and sophistication. The city’s skyline glittered through the floor-to-ceiling windows, but her mind was elsewhere, it has always been elsewhere these days.
For years since she turned nineteen, Jasira had commanded respect and fear, her sharp mind and iron will making her an unstoppable force in the underworld.
Her empire stretched across the city, controlling everything from illegal gambling to high-stakes smuggling, threatening people and eliminating whoever stood in her way.
She had built her reputation on ruthless efficiency and an unwavering commitment to her father’s organization, but recently, something had changed.
Just then, the door swung open and Kylo barged in, holding with him some paper files as he walked up to her desk.
“Boss, we need your approval on these new shipments,” he said, placing the stack of documents on her desk.
His voice held a hint of hesitation, a sign that he, like many others, had noticed her recent distraction.
Jasira looked up, her eyes momentarily focusing on the papers before drifting back to the view outside.
“Later, Kylo,” she replied, her tone uncharacteristically soft.
Kylo frowned, but he didn’t argue. He had known Jasira for years, long enough to recognize when something was off.
As he left the office, he exchanged a concerned glance with Nikky, the only girl in their team who had turned out to be her daughter, she was coming in.
He flashed her an ‘I don’t know what is wrong with your mum’ kind of look.
Nikky stepped inside, understanding the situation already, she closed the door behind her.
“Boss, what is going on? You have been off your game for weeks now,” she asked walking up to her.
Jasira sighed, leaning back in her leather chair.
“I’m fine, Nikky. Just… tired, I guess.”
Nikky wasn’t convinced, she pulled up a curious look.
“Tired? You? Come on, momma, this isn’t like you. You have been missing meetings, missing trainings, ignoring critical decisions. People are starting to talk.”
Jasira’s eyes flicked to Maria, a flash of irritation breaking through her fatigue.
“Let them talk. I’m still in control.”
Nikky shook her head in dissatisfaction and sat down across from her, her expression softening.
“What is this all about momma, you know you can always talk to me?” She pressed on.
Jasira turned to her? Really? She can always talk to her? She saw doubt and looked away immediately.
“I’m fine Nikky”, she insisted.
Nikky shook her head.
“Is this about him?” She asked and Jasira quickly shot her a look, a curious one at that.
“Him? Who is him?” She was forced to ask.
“Well I don’t know, I just asked because it’s only a ‘him’ that would get you as distracted as this,” she said, shrugging her shoulders.
Jasira hissed and looked away.
“There is no him,” she said.
“Are you sure?” She pressed on.
Jasira nodded, but her mind was elsewhere, replaying moments with Jeremy- his laugh, his touch, the way he looked at her as if she were the only person in the world.
Nikky was right, it was because of him, but how had she known there was ever a ‘him’ in her life?
After futile efforts to get Jasira snap out of the issue that had clouded her thoughts, she got up.
“Well, I came to inform you about the training competition taking place at the field in an hour’s time,” she said.
“What training is that?” Jasira asked and Nikky instantly put up a surprise face.
“Don’t tell me you have forgotten about that too?” She asked and Jasira just stared on like a maroon, obviously unaware of what Nikky was talking about.
Nikky sighed.
“The new intakes have been training for quite some time now, today is the last day of the training, the training competition, we will be having new batches of leaders from it, you really have to be present,” she said.
“Oh!” Jasira exclaimed, she had totally forgotten.
“What day is today?” She asked.
“Friday. Why?”
Jasira looked away. Friday, same Friday that Jeremy had asked if she would be free? And quite shocking, the time was also in an hour’s time.
“Holy shit!” She exclaimed.
“Anything?” Nikky asked.
“Oh, nothing, nothing. I will try to be there,” she said.
“Huh!” Nikky was forced to gasp.
