THE atmosphere at the moment was so tensed and heated up for Amelia at the wordings that just proceeded out of Tarmah’s mouth. It was unbelievable, she couldn’t believe it.
“You said what?”, she questioned, dropping the glass of wine in her left hand on the side table.
Tarmah nodded like an agama lizard.
“Carrie, yeah, Carrie, in there at his home”, she said carelessly, and began walking away.
Amelia watched her leave in utmost shock and disbelief. Carrie? That miserable assistant of his, of all girls Jeremy, of all girls?
“Oh my God!”, she exclaimed at once and instantly got up, then in befuddlement, began glaring around the living room, searching for nothing in particular.
She was just so confused and didn’t know what to do. The thought of going over to his house in order to confront him immediately came, and she waved it off as soon as it did, remembering what happened the last time she confronted him, and the warnings that had proceeded.
She let out a shrill cry and sank into the sofa, totally dumbfounded and shocked.
Slowly, she rested her head and stretched out her legs, thinking.
“But what would Jeremy be doing with Carrie? That low life, that imp? Jeez!”, she exclaimed and splayed her palms on her face.
“I think the best thing to do now is to confront her, yeah, it would be easier that way. I’m gonna accost her and tell…”, she trailed off and immediately removed her palms from her face and got up, then she headed upstairs.
….. Evening…..
One of the phones lieing on the dressing table rang out, breaking the still silence of the room, Jasira wasn’t there to pick up, she was in the bathroom.
Soon the phone stopped ringing, but then it began again. It was at the third ring, that she came out of the bathroom and heard it ringing, and she walked up to it.
Still having a white towel tied around her, she dried her right hand on it and picked up the phone, then she looked into it, it was Tarmah.
“Hello”, she was the first to speak into the phone.
“Hey boss J, good evening”, Tarmah greeted, her voice was cold and firm.
“What does it say by your time? Tammy this is late, you shouldn’t be calling, it’s 9. 30pm already”, she said shrugging her shoulders, and ignoring the coldness in her voice.
“I know sis, I just wanted to say something to you”, she replied.
Jasira shook her head, the coldness in Tarmah’s voice couldn’t be ignored this time, it was more than noticeable.
“What is wrong? Is anything the problem?”, she asked and then turned to the dressing mirror.
“Ugh, not at all. I’m okay, I’m fine”, she replied.
Jasira nodded, looking at herself in the mirror.
“Alright, so what is it you wanna tell me? Please be fast with it I’m dripping wet, just came out of the bathroom”, she said.
“Alright dear, nothing serious though, I will be returning to school soon”, she said.
Jasira’s eyes widened and she looked away from the mirror.
“Huh? Really? When?”, she inquired.
“In a week’s time”, Tarmah replied.
Jasira frowned, it was an involuntary act, she never wanted to, and she never expected to.
“That… that is already so close”, she mumbled into the phone.
“How?”, Tarmah asked, surprised, “do we have any unfinished business together?”, she asked knowingly.
Jasira shook her head like Tarmah could see her.
“No… no, ugh… we don’t”, she replied, scratching her head.
Tarmah smiled, she already knows what was going on in her mind.
“If… it’s about him, do not worry”, she said.
Jasira heaved a sigh.
“I should get going, because someone is dripping wet”, Tarmah said and chuckled.
Jasira smiled.
“You are definitely not okay, get off my phone”, she said and Tarmah hung up.
Slowly, Jasira removed the phone from her ears and dropped it on the table, then looked into the mirror, her two hands on the seat. She was in that position for a few minutes.
A long deep sigh followed as she stood up straight, then walked away towards her closet.
She was still dressing up for the night when a maid came in with her dinner, dropped it on the centre table and left.
Soon she was done, she walked up to the table and sat down to eat. Today’s dinner was late, she had wanted it so and that was why she was having it in her room and not in the dining as it was supposed to be.
Halfway into the food, her phone which she had just dropped on the dressing table gave out a loud beeping sound, and subconsciously, she looked up at it.
Reluctantly, she got up and went to get it, then walked back to the sofa and sat.
Then she continued with the food, and as she did, she worked on the phone. The beeping sound was a message notification, someone had sent her a direct message.
It was rare for people to send her direct messages, for it was only close associates that knows the rightful media handles to DM. So it was either business related and nothing more.
“Mm, who could this be? Business on the lane…”, she mumbled as she drank some water. Then she went on to check out who the person was.
At the instant she did, she freezed on the spot.
“Jeez!”, she exclaimed. It was Jeremy.
“Oh my! Do not tell me he messaged me, gee!”, she instantly dropped the phone on the table and cupped her right hand over her mouth, her eyes were widened in shock and astonishment. She was gobsmacked.
“He took the damn risk to message me huh? The almighty billionaire CEO?”, she whispered to herself.
After few minutes, she heaved a deep sigh, then summoned up courage and picked up the phone. She was gonna listen to him now, he was damn serious, she could see it.
But hey, that doesn’t mean she was actually gonna let him have her, she just wanted to be formal, and… courtesied. At least, Lord Lucario taught her so.
As she picked up the phone, she clicked on the message and the chat box came on.
@Jeremy_Petersons: Hi beautiful lady… my beautiful lady .
She read out the text, and a small smile played on her lips. She replied immediately.
@JBaby: Hi, good evening.
She typed and paused, then hesitated to tap on the send button. She sighed and closed her eyes, seconds later she opened them and instantly, sent the message.
Then she dropped the phone on the sofa beside her and continued with the food.
She was still eating when the phone beeped again, startling her and she jerked.
“Ahhh!”, she mouthed splaying her right hand on her forehead, realizing what had just made her jerked.
Then she dropped her cutleries and picked up the phone, it was Jeremy again, he had just replied her.
“Oh wow! So, he is actually on the phone right now”, she mouthed and before she could stop herself, she picked up the glass of water and gulped, then got up from the sofa and walked up to the bed, collapsing on it.
As soon as she collapsed on the bed, she glanced at the table, the meal was left half finished, well, she was already filled.
Quickly, she tapped on the message.
@Jeremy_Petersons: Woah! I had thought you were already in bed, I didn’t mean to disturb you lady. I only wanted you to receive the text tomorrow morning. I’m sorry if I had interrupted your night rest.
She smiled, he was pleading. What a gentleman. Mm, she thought of what to reply, and then soon, an idea pooped in.
@JBaby: Well, it’s fine, you interrupted nothing.
On the other end, Jeremy received the text with mixed feelings, wondering why she hadn’t left any reason for the chat to continue.
Well, he shrugged and decided to push on. At least and very much to his surprise, she had even replied to his texts.
@Jeremy_Petersons: Alright, I’m glad I didn’t. I hope you have had dinner? A nice one? The one I had minutes ago was an eyesore.
Jasira snorted, making a face. She couldn’t even finish hers,… because of him.
@JBaby: Lol. Why? Your cooks are at it?
Jeremy sighed, and turned over on the bed where he laid.
@Jeremy_Petersons: You can say that again dear, I just need someone to prepare something else for me,… I know you would right??
Jasira laughed, cupping her left hand over her mouth.
@JBaby: Me? It’s already late. Besides, I can’t even boil water, let alone cook.?
“Oh jeez!”, Jeremy mouthed and bursted into laughter, laughing non stop.
@Jeremy_Petersons: I see, I’m gonna teach you, do not worry.
She smiled.
@JBaby: I don’t even wanna learn.
She gushed out even before she could stop herself.
Jeremy laughed out on reading the text, and he replied her.
@Jeremy_Petersons: Stubborn lady, stubborn beautiful lady. It’s fine anyways.
She read the text and was about replying when she suddenly paused and flung the phone aside.
As far as she was concerned, she was taking this too far now, and she needed to slow down the pace, she really needed to.
Sighing and reluctantly, she glanced at the phone and then looked away, then she shoved it towards her.
Beep… beep, two messages popped in, they were from him. She sighed again.
“Am I really doing the right thing? This is absurd, why should I be thinking of falling in…”, she trailed off, deliberately leaving the remaining words hanging in the air, then she looked into the phone.
@Jeremy_Petersons: Hey beautiful lady, are you there?
Ugh, if it’s about calling you stubborn, I’m sorry, but you are a hard lady though…
She snorted.
@JBaby: Don’t you have a busy day at work tomorrow? I think you should go to bed.
@Jeremy_Petersons: Hey, are you feeling dizzy now? We just begun chatting.
@JBaby: Yeah, I wanna sleep. Good night.
And then reluctantly, she put off the phone and went to bed.
Jeremy gritted his teeth on receiving the text, it ended rather too early and abruptly. But hey, she was replying to his texts right? Wow, that was a light at the end of the tunnel huh.
He punched into the air, laughing out loud and feeling so satisfied with himself.
He shrugged his shoulders, sent another text to her, and went to bed.
…. Next Morning….
Carrie hurried up with her normal morning routine, getting ready for work.
She had prepared breakfast and had dished out for Old Maria, her grandmother.
She was sitted facing the mirror and applying her makeover when Old Maria walked up to her, from behind.
“That which you are about to do is gonna mar you daughter, do not ever think of doing it”, her old voice growled.
Carrie was startled at her grandmother’s sudden outburst, she suddenly stopped what she was doing and began staring at her in the mirror, then she slowly turned to her.
“What do you mean grandmother? What are you talking about?”, she asked, her eyelids flickering.
“You shouldn’t be thinking of Jeremy the way you are, Jeremy is your boss. Never nurse the feeling that you two gonna end up together…”.
“Grandma?”, Carrie called in astonishment.
“You shouldn’t get carried away by the fact that he is like a son to me, do not ride on that to think something is ever gonna work between you two. You are incompatible, you better watch your back, and do just your job, if the boy loves you, it would play out without your effort, if he doesn’t, then nothing gonna work. Keep your hands clean Carrie, keep them clean”, she said and walked away, her stick thumping on the floor.
Carrie was dumbfounded and gobsmacked at her grandmother’s outbursts. How the hell did she know? She has never told her about her plans to get Jeremy for herself.
Well, she doesn’t care about her advices either, her mind was already made up, she was going for Jeremy and she is gonna get him.
Hurriedly, she finished up with her makeover and neatly arranging the kits the way she always does, she shoved back her seat and got up.
Picking up her bag and car keys from the dressing table, she walked out of the house, and headed for the garage.
Soon she boarded her car and off she went through the driveway. On approaching the road, there was a small black car by her right, it was on a halt by the side of the road, she just ignored it, took her left and continued driving.
As soon as she hit the not too busy road, the black car followed, she still didn’t even take note of it.
The both cars had both driven for about five minutes when another small black car suddenly drove out from a bend and screeched to a halt in front of hers.
She let out a loud scream and halted, jerking forward, what kind of a driving was that? She looked back and tried to reverse, but the other car which followed her was behind, and not wanting to move. She became skeptical and began panicking.
She was still panicking and thinking on what to do when the doors of the car behind opened and four boys came out, and rushed up to her car.
Her eyes instantly widened in fear, she was so scared. They got to her car and forced her out.
“Hey, you lady, come out”, one of them growled and she began fumbling with the door, her hands were shaking.
“Are you deaf? Out now!”, another commanded, shouting and that was when she managed to open the door and came out, raising up her hands in surrender.
“Don’t… don’t hurt me pl… please”, she began pleading.
“You should have thought about that before you began hurting others”, another spat out.
Carrie was dumbfounded, who the hell did she hurt? She turned to the guys, they were all dressed in suit and very dark googles on their faces, she couldn’t tell who they were.
Another guy, dressed just like them came out from the other car, and proceeded to open the back door, then someone slowly alighted, it was a lady.
The lady fully came out and began walking up to them, and that was when she realized who it was, and she gapsed. It was Amelia Redford.
