EPILOGUE

Book:His Burning Obsession Published:2024-8-27

FIVE AND HALF YEARS LATER,
You know when they say opposite sides attract… That’s usually true at times.
I finished university with Lucas who is now my Lawful husband a year ago. Lucas became the CEO of his father’s company while I worked as a scientist in one of the research institutions in America.
Everything had been great between us, well, not exactly great because we tend to fight, argue, cry and the rest… No relationship is perfect but still, we had our chances to make things right and together
Guess what…? I have a 10 months old baby boy whose name is Gavin.
Gavin has a striking appearance and resemblance just like his Dad, those green eyes especially which made him look so cute always made me wonder if it’s a thing in Liam’s family to pass down green eyes to their descendants.
Lucas made me leave my job because he wanted me to give our son attention and care at a little age… He didn’t want what happened to him when he was young to happen to his son.
It’s Thanksgiving period and I decided to host a little gathering in my home… Oh, Yes! We have our own home which was twice as big as my father’s in-law mansion.
It was evening and it’s time for the guests to start arriving. I invited Beatrice to attend the party since she told me she came to the states, so I think there might still be a chance for her and Ben to solve their issues and probably be together.
Ben had become the cold god… He was unemotional, hardened, and never had an interest in any ladies. We tried countlessly to get him out of his self-conceited state but he was adamant, so I tried to Lure Beatrice to come over convincing her that Ben wouldn’t be around since he was a very busy man.
I lied… Uhm! Ben is quite busy but he was attempting to come for our thanksgiving gathering.
“Cutie pie!” I smiled helping Gavin to dress up as I brushed his silky golden hair curls with the soft brush.
“Mumma,” He giggled as he tried to pronounce the ‘Mum’ word using his style to call me with those pinkish perky lips of his as he smiled showing off his two tiny incisors on his upper gingiva and the three little incisors which were growing out.
He folded his little hands and raised his leg while I tried to put on his diapers.
I grabbed his jeans trouser that I laid properly on his cot and carried him up placing him on my laps as I wore his trousers for him.
He babbled out some words incoherently… baby language I think as I chuckled when he began laughing. I wonder what made him laugh.
I placed him inside his cot and gave him his toy car to distract him while I went into his drawer to pick a shirt and jacket for him because of the cold weather.
I turned back after picking his clothes I got satisfied with and walked back to him as he tried to put his car toy into his mouth.
“Mumma! Mumma!!” He giggled dropping the toy on the bed and clapped his little hands together before going on all four crawling to the handle of his cot and standing up himself.
I smiled watching my baby boy grow up… I nearly cried when he mentioned the ‘Mumma’ word when he was 8 months and stood on his feet when I placed him on the floor when he was nine and half months old.
“Mum loves you!” I smiled touching his soft cheeks.
“Yah!” He giggled and fell back on the bed with his butt as he looked at me and sucked his lips before smiling again.
Oh, God! I could just watch him all day smiling at me… He was such a charmer.
I wore his mixed blue and red shirt, then wore the red jacket for him buttoning up. I picked his black head warmer and wore it on his head while he tried to remove it with his hands.
“Now! Gav be a good boy and wear the head warmer to prevent cold,” I said placing my finger on his little nose as he stared at me with a pout before starting up with baby language while I smiled.
I put on his black boots and smiled at how cute my baby was.
He turned his gaze away and smile as he started clapping his hands together, “Daddie! Daddie!!” He cackled happily as he tried to stand up on his bed.
“Hey, big boy,” Lucas chuckled deeply as he walked closer to his son’s cot and carried him as Gavin tugged on his father’s tie with those little hands of his.
“Are you ready?” Lucas asked turning his attention to me.
“Yes darling,” I smiled walking closer to my boys as I helped Gavin wear his head warmer properly since he still tried to remove it earlier.
He turned his gaze at me giggled again as he stretched his hands over to me.
“You want me to carry you?” I asked smiling and he fidgeted in his dad’s arms as he wanted me to carry him.
“He’s such a charmer,” Lucas chuckled handing him over to me as he patted Gavin’s back lightly.
“Just like you,” I smiled staring at him when he smirked and moved closer to me while I stared into his green eyes.
“I love you, Camilla,” He smiled as he leaned closer to me and kissed my lips warmly.
“Yah! Yah!!” We heard Gavin speak as he grabbed my hair in his hands.
“I love you too,” I laughed drawing away from Lucas while helping him to fix his tie with my other hand as he chuckled and patted Gavin’s back as we both stared lovingly at our son.

Everyone was present for the gathering, varieties of food set on the dining table as Lucas’s father and mother arrived, it wasn’t easy at first but I must say Lucas has started improving on his relationship with his mother.
“I bought this for you, Grandson,” Lucas’s mother smiled giving him a greenish wrapped gift item as she held his hands. He was sitting on his baby seat beside the dining table.
“Thank you!” I smiled collecting the gift from her as Gavin stared at me hitting his hands on his table.
“I know it’s for you… wanna help you keep it,” I pouted at him as he smiled and turned to Elena, Lucas’s mother.
I quickly went upstairs to keep his gift in my room then went downstairs.
“OMG! He’s so cute!” I heard someone say as Gavin giggled, he was such a free child, not the kind of baby that normally cries when they meet a stranger.
I got to the room to see my beautiful bestie.
“Beatrice!” I called out happily rushing over to her while I took cautious steps because of the heel I was wearing.
“Camilla!” She said happily as she saw me and she left Gavin coming over to me as we hugged ourselves.
“I’ve missed you so much!” I nuzzled in her bare neck inhaling her lovely fragrance.
“I missed you too!” She said as we broke free from each other and stared at our faces.
She looked a bit different years back… She had grown so beautiful and sexy, her grey eyes looked so calm and alluring, her bow-shaped lips looks so inviting to any guy that wanted to kiss her and her hair was still as long as it was during high school days, or should I say a bit longer.
“You look so beautiful!” She complimented while I smiled.
“I was about to say the same thing too, you look damn hot!” I said.
“My God! I’m so annoyed with myself when you gave birth to Gavin… He’s so cute, I’m sorry I couldn’t make it then,” She said.
“It’s okay, that’s not a problem, we both know you had an important business trip that day,” I smiled looking at her and she nodded.
“If I give birth to a girl they have to be compatible,” She smiled staring at Gavin who was playing with hands.
“Let the time come,” I chuckled as we made our way to the dining table.
“How about Leticia?” I asked.
“She’s fine… Hooked up with a guy in Florida,” She answered.
“Woah! That’s great!” I said as I drew out a chair beside Lucas who was busy with his phone.
“Hey, babe!” He muttered when he realized I was sitting next to him.
“Sweetheart!” I cooed leaning closer to him and kissing him quickly on his lips as he winked at him.
Our love just seems to be increasing day by day.
We had a few more guests and it was time to start eating our meal, Lucas’s father said the prayers, and after that everyone cheered.
I grabbed Gavin’s plate and plastic spoon on the table and prepared his oatmeal cereal mixed with milk and placed it on his table close to me.
I clipped his baby napkin around his neck to avoid stains on his clothes.
“Open your mouth!” I smiled as he stared at me then the spoon in my hand before looking at my face again.
“Aaah!” I said opening my mouth as he giggled and opened his mouth too while I carefully put the spoon of oatmeal cereals into his mouth.
“Mmhm! That’s my boy,” I laughed when he started swallowing the content down his throat and bang his fist on his table, and tried to jump in his seat.
“So cute!” Beatrice said dreamily while everyone chuckled.
Lucas’s father started up a conversation as everyone started chatting among themselves.
“Ben ten!! Ben ten!!!” Gavin said loudly hitting his fist on the table happily as he hit the table and I knew Ben was around.
“Who’s Ben ten?” Beatrice laughed staring at Gavin while I and Lucas made a quick glance at each other.
“It’s Uncle Ben, Gavin,” I corrected.
“Oncul Ben!” He giggled while I squeezed his hand.
“My big boy!” Ben walked in wearing a black suit with a gift in his hand as he kept it on the dining table and went over to carry Gavin.
“Yah! Ben ten!!” Gavin chirped as he stretched his arms out to Ben while I sighed. Gavin had been addicted to watching his favorite animation, ‘Ben 10’, and ever since he got to know that his dad’s best friend was bearing Ben. He started calling him Ben ten.
I glanced at Beatrice who looked stiff on her seat and looked pale all of a sudden as her gaze caught mine.
“I thought you weren’t coming,” Lucas said as he stared at Ben.
“Yeah! But since I was done with some documents I was handling… I decided to come,” He said turning around as his gaze landed on Beatrice and he became stiff.
“Ben ten!” Gavin giggled trying to break the awkward tension already rising as he tried to touch Ben’s hair which he had dyed black.
His gaze rested on Beatrice who tried her possible best to try to avoid him.
“Uhm! Guys, I made a strawberry sponge cake for Thanksgiving, I’ll like you all to have a taste,” I said trying to brighten up everything as Ben went to an empty seat with Gavin in his hands who was playing with his suit.
“That’s lovely, sweetie,” Lucas’s mum chirped while Lucas’s father stared at Ben and Beatrice.
I stood up from my seat and went into the kitchen to get the sponge cake from the refrigerator.
‘I don’t think my plan worked out… See how they stared at each other like ghosts,” I thought bringing out the sponge cake I made and walking back to the dining room.
I kept the cake carefully on the table and Beatrice looked at me.
“Camilla, can you show me the way to the restroom?” She asked standing up.
“Yeah, sure!” I smiled as she grabbed her clutch.
“I don’t suppose you need that in the bathroom,” Ben said deeply his gaze solely fixed on Beatrice as she snapped her face to him.
“I don’t that’s your business,” She answered and turned around to walk while I closed my eyes biting my lips, and opened them immediately as I followed behind Beatrice like she already knew where she was going to.
“Beatrice!” I called as she stopped in her tracks.
“Why didn’t you tell me, he would be coming?” Beatrice asked turning to me.
“We didn’t know, like he said he changed his mind,” I answered even though I was praying Ben would come.
“That jerk!” Beatrice tsked as she stared at me.
“Show me to the bathroom,” she said while I led her to the way.
“Thanks, dear,” she said.
“You’re welcome, I’ll go meet the rest,” I notified and she nodded.
I got back to the dining room to see Ben still holding on to Gavin and smiling at him, he was so friendly towards Gavin and always acted like a second father to me.
He noticed my presence and stood up as he handed Gavin to me who didn’t want to let go of him.
“Ben ten!” Gavin pouted staring at him.
“I’ll be back buddy,” He patted Gavin’s back and stared at me as I nodded.
“Whatever you say don’t get too angry,” Lucas said while I walked back to the table and Ben made his way to the restroom.
“Those two have a thing?” Lucas’s father asked staring at us as I placed Gavin back in his seat.
“Let’s say yes,” I shrugged and began sharing the sponge cake.
‘I hope they sort it out!’ I thought.
