Book:His Burning Obsession Published:2024-8-27

I was in the library trying to look for a new amplified biology textbook… Lucas was sitting at the corner of the library waiting for me.
We just had finished two papers not so long and I wanted to get the textbook, so he and I could study together.
I was trailing my fingers on the books arranged neatly on the shelves.
‘Where’s this textbook?’ I thought annoyingly remembering quite well, I saw it at this particular spot I was searching for.
“Show yourself!” I muttered squatting to check the books arranged below the shelf.
“Hahaha! Gotcha!” I smiled at last feeling relieved I’d seen the book I was looking for since
I heard steps behind and I stood up turning around to see who it was.
The textbook in my hands fell as I began shaking visibly… Taking my steps back.
“Damien!” I muttered, he still had bandages wrapped around his left eye and he looked in a sorry state that I began to pity him.
“Camilla!” He whispered moving closer to me.
“Stop right there! If you don’t want me to scream at you,” I retorted moving backward.
“Please hear me out,” He begged frustratedly.
I took a proper look at him and decided what to hear what he was about to say.
“What is it?” I asked staring at him.
“I’m sorry!” He muttered as I stared at his busted lips… Holy shit! Lucas seriously beat him to a pulp.
“I shouldn’t have tried that trash with you after realizing all that you’ve been through!” He said soberly avoiding my gaze.
“I’m so stupid and I’ve realized my mistakes, I know I don’t deserve your kind attitude but please fo–”
“What the hell are you doing with her?” We heard someone roar behind us as Damien stared frankly behind me while I closed my eyes mumbling some prayer he doesn’t start another fight.
I stared at Damien who was still staring at my back and I knew it was no other than Lucas… And I was wondering why he wasn’t running away instead he stood his ground.
I know Damien was also a tough guy but he was visibly weak on the inside but tries to appear tough on the outside.
“What the fuck are you still doing?” Lucas roared behind me as he brushed past me and started heading towards Damien but I was quick to grab his arm.
“Don’t!” I begged when I saw him fisting his hands with his face hard as he appeared he would kill Damien at the spot.
“Let’s go!” I said holding him firmly as I quickly picked the textbook on the floor and dragged Lucas along with me as we went over to our seats.
“What the fuck was he doing with you?” Lucas asked angrily while I drew out the chair and sat beside him.
“He apologized for what he did,” I answered opening the textbook as I looked for a particular topic and he didn’t say anything as he tapped his fingers on the table.
“I’m fine… he only felt guilty for what he did and that’s all,” I explained when he still looked like someone who was burst due to anger.
“Don’t trust him!” He retorted with a snort turning his gaze to me as I nodded and diverted my attention back to the textbook, reading it.
“What are you reading?” He asked finally and I pushed the textbook to the center between us, so we could be able to read together.

The break was awkward thanks to Beatrice and Leticia who had their gaze fixed on me and probably angry at me for hanging up the call on them.
I had to stare at my food all through avoiding their gazes, Ben didn’t join us for lunch and he had been that way ever since Beatrice decided to go all stubborn.
Sometimes, I wonder if Lucas even cares for his best friend because he was at our table throughout the break.
I wanted to ask about him but decided against it, I saw him in class but he looked so distant and cold.
If I had a chance, I’ll go talk with him.
I tightened my grip on the straps of the bag as I walked over to Lucas’s car.
I just wanted to relax, and maybe sleep for some minutes before I continue reading when I get home.
Then my mind wandered to my mum’s grave… I haven’t been there ever since we buried her maybe it’s high time I go visit her.
“I’ll like to go to my mum’s graveyard,” I spoke as Lucas glanced at me and back to the road immediately.
“Okay!” He said without asking for reasons.
“Direction?” He asked and I showed him the way.
He stopped at a flower shop and I gazed at him questioningly as he parked a free space.
“I suppose you need flowers to visit your mum’s burial place,” He said and I smiled scolding myself for letting that skip my head.
“Thank you!” I smiled in gratitude as he stepped out of the car.
I hummed a song I barely knew as I played with my fingers and the car clicked as I looked at the side to see Lucas’s opening the door with two bouquets in his arm.
“This is for your mum!” He said giving me the bouquet of white flowers.
“And this is for you,” He said handing me the bouquet of red roses.
I smelt the flowers as I smiled while he started his car.
“They’re nice!” I said glancing at the flowers and keeping them on my thigh as Lucas drove off.

The snow covered most of the ground as I walked directly to my mum’s grave with Lucas behind me.
I got to her grave and a sad smile formed on my face as I packed out the dry leaves clustering around her grave and knelt in front of her grave with my right hand trailing her engraved name on the stone.
“Hey, mum! Here I am… I fulfilled your promise and made sure to be strong no matter what happens and I’m glad I was able to scale through,” I smiled sadly kissing the white flowers in my left hand as tears pooled down my face.
“I miss you and dad so much… and I hope you two are in a great place, please watch over Lillian and I hope she’s safe wherever she is and will come home to me, she’s the only one left in our family for me,” I said and after talking to my mum’s grave for a while, I placed the white flowers on the snow which had covered the ground.
I stood up sniffing as I wiped my eyes with the back of my hands when I felt Lucas’s warm hands on my shoulder as he pulled my back, so my head was resting on his chest while he wrapped his hands around my waist and leaned forward to kiss my cheek.
I sighed covering his large hands with mine as a bird chirped past us happily and flew into the sky as we watched the bird fly farther into the sky with great ecstasy chirping gleefully making me smile .
