Cade tossed and turned in the bed as he thought of the accusations that Ophelia put on him. He had tried his best to handle the situation as calmly as possible making excuses for her that maybe she was still a bit drunk at that time. He struggled to put his mind at ease and sleep calmly and he could not put a pin on the reason.
His phone chimed on the nightstand. Considering his work he knew it was not unlikely that it was a client from another city. He picked up his phone and opened it. There was a message sitting on the screen of his phone.
I want to be a part of your life Please let me
He read the message and reread it multiple times because he could not understand what the message meant or who it was from. He ignored it thinking it was a scammer who was trying to get him to interact so he ignored the message. He dropped his phone to the bedside and laid back to the bed.
Cade finally drifted to sleep in between the thoughts that flooded his night since he laid down to sleep. He was woken up by someone banging on his door. “Who is that? This early?” he asked himself glancing at the clock and discovering he had overslept. He wanted to get back to exercising but he felt too tired to meet up with that schedule that morning.
He shifted in his sleep and struggled to sit on the bed. He wondered who it could be because he believed that there was no way it was Ophelia knocking at his door so vigorously. He could not believe it, she would not do that. He continued to try to convince himself and he woke at the door. He unlocked the door and pulled it open.
“You lock your door?” Ophelia asked as the door opened. She was slightly offended that he was the one locking his door when she was the one to do that. She was not going to jump his bones. “Do you think I would come in here to do something to you?” she asked.
Cade wanted to tell her that it was because of her but the expression on her face was not what he needed to see. He knew that her believing that he was trying to lock her out was not a good look for him at all, considering that he had been rarely able to vindicate himself yesterday.
“I lock the door when I sleep because I am used to it, I grew up in a house where I had to or else I might sleep innocent and wake up as a murder suspect” he said causally and Ophelia felt a sense of pity for him. No matter how a family fought they should not be that far from each other.
She wanted to comment but thought against it, maybe she could barely relate to him because it was just her and her father all this time. Maybe she was just looking at it from another perspective and did not understand at all. “Oh okay,” she said instead of saying anything that would make her seem inconsiderate of his feelings. It made sense that since he grew up in such a tense environment he would be careful of such things.
“What are you doing here?” he groaned and that was when she heard it. It was his morning voice and she thought it to be sexy. She gulped her spit down because she did not know what to do. She blinked rapidly as she took a step back. In response, Cade took a step back because he could not understand what she was doing.
“I waited for you” she said not trying to show the pain on her face. She felt a bit insulted that he had taken a step back when she approached him but she had no right to complain about it.
“For me? Why?” he asked confused.
“I thought you were going for a run so we could go together and then right after I could treat you to a healthy breakfast,” she said and he noticed her wear.
She was wearing her running wear and shoes with a tracker snapped around her arm and a headset over her head. “Oh, I overslept” he said running his hands through his hair.
She gulped at his actions and at how they showed his forearm muscles. “Oh do you still want to go for a run?” she asked trying to focus on why she was there not what her eyes could see.
“Well, isn’t it late already? I guess the sun is up already” he said. All he wanted to do was go back to bed and sleep.
“Oh is it?” she asks turning around as if she could see the sun from there. “I thought I could treat you to some breakfast” she added. She was hoping that from his perspective she was not drooling over him or even staring shamelessly at him. She hoped she looked normal and not as if she was staring at his arms.
“To breakfast?” he asked leaning into the doorframe.
“Yeah, to thank you for yesterday” she replied.
“Oh wow I am flattered by the gesture” he said shocked by her suggestion.
“Yeah so I will go order the food now and I hope you can get refreshed and come down for breakfast” she said turning on her heels and not stopping to listen to his response. He stood watching her walk towards her room.
