Angel POV.
I woke up clinging to Hunter, I don’t even remember hugging him, maybe in a strange dream and fever phase I was holding on to him feeling safe until the morning came and I woke up still holding him, and sweaty. last night was hard, I had a bad dream and I felt like I had a fever, I don’t remember much of the night, but I know I woke up in a new PJ and my whole body was hot, I needed an urgent shower and didn’t want them two to see me like that.
I went right toward the bathroom, took off the new pj and got under the shower, it took me four trials to find out how to turn the stupid water on, this was too fancy and I wasn’t sure how to turn it on, after four trials it turned on to the cold setting, I tried turning it hot, or just warm, but I had no idea how. The cold water is going to have to do, I wasn’t enjoying the cold water especially since the house was freezing cold, but my old place was cold as well, and I never had hot water, I looked at some kind of shampoo, I didn’t recognize any of the fancy bottles they had around, I had to look and search for the words that are written on them until I found one that said shampoo.
I was struggling with my shower when the door opened and I saw that it was Logan, I said that it was all fine and he let me finish my shower in peace, I was trembling with the cold when I saw that there weren’t any towels, only a bathrobe, I took one of them, and wrapped myself in it, I was freezing cold, I got out of the bathroom and saw that they were both sitting outside talking when I they saw me, Hunter’s face turned into a big wide smile.
“Hey my Angel, all clean now?” Hunter asks me.
“Yeah, I think I was too hot in the night,” I answered him, I wasn’t sure what happened last night and what that fever was.
“Yeah, did you sleep well?” he asks me.
“Yeah, thank you, I did. Thank you for letting me sleep in here,” I answer him with a forced smile trying my best to sound calm, but I was anything but that.
“You welcome, we got work to do, let’s get ready,” Logan says, he handed me new clothes to wear, I knew where these items came from, I might have done a little bit of snooping before going to the shower.
I woke up between them which felt weird, I slipped out of the bed slowly not making a sound or waking them up, I made it out and saw the open door, it was calling to me, that door I had never seen before, not when we came into this room twice last night, I walked in and I was shocked to say the least, seeing that room made me sweat some more, and I ran to the bathroom, now I’m trying to pretend that I’m okay, that I wasn’t freaked out and that I don’t need answers quickly.
I could ask them, and I know they would answer me, Hunter doesn’t seem to be holding back anything, he doesn’t mind answering any kind of questions, but Logan on the other hand was hiding and would hold back some information, but do I want the truth? Should I ask them, what if they say the thing that I’m too worried to hear, what if they say yes, and then what?
“We got to get to work, bye Hunter,” Logan says to his mate, kissing him right on the lips as we left for work, they tried feeding me breakfast, today my food was cut into small pieces on the same colourful plates with the soft fork, my fear was getting deeper.
I know I’m a child compared to them, but I’m not that young, I shouldn’t be treated that young, they want someone to take care of me, but I’m not a child, not that small of a child, I got in the car with Logan and kept my eyes locked on the window, avoiding his eyes in fear that he’d know what I’m thinking, or that he’d tell me that this is it for Blue.
“Are you okay Angel?” he asks me and I nod, sure I’m fine.
“Logan, is it true that William ordered everyone not to talk to humans of other codes?” I ask him.
“It’s true, but how did you know?” he asks me with a raised brow.
“Dylan told me,” I confess to him, he turns to me with a weird look, would he snap at me like Ryan did? Would he get angry, should I run?
“Just give this a couple of days, after the festival you can go upstair and talk to Dyaln personally,” he says with a smile on his face, a calm smile.
“You’re not mad?” I ask him carefully.
“Why would I be mad? Dylan is a leader and I know you have a connection with him, it’s fine to talk to him,” Logan assures me.
“Does Hunter think the same?” I ask him next.
“Hunter might be a bit more jealous, but he and Dylan are great friends, you’ll be seeing him often at our house,” Logan says with a smile.
“Okay,” I say waiting to get to work so I can get out of the car, and spend some time away from him, but I didn’t know who to talk to, maybe Mia and Alec? But how would they know about my category, maybe I can find Nala in the cafeteria and she’d tell me if she found something up.
“Do you know my friend Nala?” I asked him, she works in the same department as us, I hoped.
“She’s another code blue?” he asks me and I nod my head yes, she was.
“I’ll check her name when we get to the company, why?” he asks me.
“She’s my friend and I haven’t seen her in a couple of days, maybe I can have lunch with her today,” I say.
“I’ll get her number and you can have lunch together of course,” Logan assures me, I was just happy to be able to see someone that isn’t them, someone to help me out here.
We got to work and he parked his car in a spot reserved just for him, he opened the door for me and helped me out, we held hands as we walked in, saying good morning and hello to other people, some people looked at our joined hands, but they didn’t comment on it. We kept on walking until we got to our floor, he went to his office and I went to mine, I sat with Alec and Mia who were both busy with work, while I didn’t have anything to do today, he didn’t give me anything to do.
“Alec,” I say getting his attention, he’s the softer one and the easiest to talk with.
“Angel?” he answers me.
“Where you scared?” I ask him.
“When? Do you mean my first time? Oh no, Mia was very gentle,” he says with a shrug.
“I don’t mean that, I mean when you find out what code green stood for,” I ask him.
“I didn’t find out what green is, I was green, and that’s how I met them, and then codes happened and I just had to fill in the blank,” Alec answers me, I turn to Mia hoping that she’d have another kind of answer.
“I knew what I was, I know it’s scary when you first get into it, but this new world, it’s safe for people like us, you don’t have to hide the truth of what you are, you don’t have to worry about others finding out, you just be you,” Mia says, but I wasn’t sure that is me.
“What if I’m scared of what blue might be?” I ask them.
“I helped develop the test, and it’s very accurate, you are blue, you just need to explore it,” Mia explains to me.
“Do you know what blue is?” I asked her, to be sure of what I had in mind.
“I can’t tell you,” she answered me with a smile, she knew.
“I thought we were friends, Mia,” I say giving her my best kitten eyes ever.
“Those don’t work on me, ask Alec,” she answers me, I turned to Alec who was nodding assuring me that they work on her, not at all.
“Thank you for nothing Mia, I don’t know what to do,” I whine out loud.
“You can help us out here we’re buried in paperwork, you’re his assistant as well,” Mia says.
“Okay,” I say deciding it’s better to help them than do nothing, I did a lot of paperwork, I tried to read through them but everything was permit and plans about the carnival, there were names of everyone who’s going to be part of it, there were security names and a couple of papers that need to be passed by William for approval.
The day passed a lot quicker with us working, lunchtime came soon and I got up to go to the cafeteria with Alec and Mia.
“Hello, I was told to come here,” I heard the familiar voice of Nala, she was standing near the door and she looked worried.
“By whom?” Mia answered her with a raised brow.
“She’s here for me,” I say saving her from Mia’s glare, she turned to me with a big smile now.
“Where have you been?” she asks me worriedly.
“Let’s go to lunch and then we’ll talk,” I answer her, dragging her along with me toward the cafeteria for lunch, we both got our food and sat next to each other, I saw that Logan was looking at me from the other side of the room.
“So he’s the reason why you didn’t come back home yesterday,” Nala says noticing Logan’s eyes on me.
“We had work,” I say although we didn’t do any kind of work, we just had dinner and went to bed.
“Sure you did,” Nala says with a wink.
“Nala, did you find out more about Blue?” I ask her, she looked worried, she looked different when I said so.
“Katie was moved out of the room last night, I don’t know what happened, but she was crying, like really badly crying, she wouldn’t calm down, I tried talking to her, but she only wanted Evelyn to hold her and hug her,” Nala says.
“Then what?” I ask her.
“Then she wasn’t brought back, I asked about her, and she told me that she’s in another place, are they killing us?” Nala asks worried.
“No, I don’t think they are, have you found out anything else?” I ask her.
“At work, they keep treating me as a child, a coworker said that I need a pacifier, and maybe a sippy cup to keep me busy while they work! I’m freaking working too, and don’t get me starting about all the no swearing rules, I feel like I’m back in my mother’s house and being taught manners,” Nala groans.
“Did they say anything else about being blue?” I ask her.
“No, that’s about it, and I don’t think I’m very blue, I just want to know what this means and be over with it, I’m very lost Angel, and it makes me feeln like I want to cry,” she says sounding sad, she also sounded like an overwhelmed child, and a bit of a brat, but I love her, she says she’s not blue, but she’s acting very blue.
“I don’t know Nala, things would get better,” I assure her, I don’t think I’m ready for sippy cup or pacifier either, I don’t know how much they’re going to push me.
