Angel POV.
“But let me explain,” I begged them, they had me sitting in the backseat, they locked the doors and I couldn’t get out of there, they weren’t listening, and the only thing that they said to me was that I disobeyed and I deserve this, whatever this is.
“Shut up,” the guy in the front scolded me when I wouldn’t shut up, trying to explain to them what happened to me, was there something I should have obeyed but I didn’t.
I was on the verge of tears, no I wasn’t on the verge, tears were starting to gather in my eyes and I was about to cry, well to sob out loud, I was a good girl, I hadn’t been doing anything that I shouldn’t be doing, I was hiding home the whole time, the only reason I left was to get some grocery if I had enough food, I wouldn’t have left, I’m good just hiding for a very long time.
They didn’t take me to the same facility as before, although the road was very similar to that one, this time they took me toward a building in the middle of the city, these are the same cities that I lived in my whole life, back when I was younger.
We didn’t go toward the police station either, we went toward a tall building, well it was very big from far away and when we got closer I could tell this was the white house, the vampires had taken over the whole world, and what’s left of the new white house was theirs now, it’s not as important as it used to be before the war, our president isn’t anyone important anymore, it’s just some kind of protocol to have him, no wonder they killed him first no one cared or gave two damn about him.
They parked the car and I was dragged in by the two guys, they didn’t have to use much force, I would walk without being dragged like some rebel, I could see that I wasn’t the only one brought in here, but I was the least violent one. They had a kind of cell ready for everyone, once we were in, we were all thrown inside the cell, the rest didn’t look too scared, they shared looks, they nodded at each other, they knew what was coming or maybe they didn’t care while I was terrified.
I went toward one corner and slipped down on the ground, I tried to fold my body into a ball to get away from everyone to put some distance between them and me, but I was too worried and scared of them, there were guards all over the place, they’d walk in and out, they’d look at us and then walk out.
People started to get taken one person at a time, and some were brought back, everyone was being moved except me, I didn’t want to be called, I didn’t know what was waiting for me, and all I wanted to do was go back home, to hide in my room or under the blanket, watch some old movies and fall asleep to them.
“You,” someone calls and I ignore it, they didn’t mean me, they’d been calling people all day and they just ignored me.
“Grey shirt, the one who’s crying, move it,” the vampire scolds and I knew it was me, I’m not the only one wearing grey, but I’m the only one crying, so it must be me.
I looked up at him with more tears falling down my face, he motioned for me to get closer and I moved my body off the ground and toward the gate of the cell, he opened the door and I was dragged by the arm out of the room filled with other people, filled with rebels, ones that I don’t belong with them, all I wanted was some supplies.
“Can you let me go?” I beg him with more tears.
“No,” he answered me with a cold tone, he got toward the office the one that I saw the president talking in once, and behind the desk was William.
“William?” I say confused, he looked different on the TV, he looked older, but here he looks younger and did his eye colour change?
“No, I’m your worst nightmare,” the guy says and in the blink of an eye he was standing in front of me and I screamed with fear, I screamed since I was terrified, and he looked at me right in my eyes, they went from being green to black, with a shine of red in them.
“Girl, stop it,” he ordered as I screamed and sobbed, he rolled his eyes at me and forced me to sit down, he sat behind his desk and let me cry it out.
“What’s your name?” he asked me, I mumbled mine between sobs, and I couldn’t help stop crying, I tried to wipe my eyes but the tears wouldn’t stop, he offered me a tissue as he looked up my name.
“You have taken your test Angel, you’ve been a good girl, when did you decide to join the rebels?” he asks me, the rebels?
“I’m not a rebel,” I say blowing my nose.
“What were you doing in the street? It’s far away from your home or where you’re supposed to be, ” he asks me.
“I was on the street looking for an open shop, I needed supplies, I needed some food,” I confess to him, the reality, all I wanted to do was get some food and get back to my house.
“Angel, didn’t you hear William’s announcement?” he asks me.
“Aren’t you William?” I asked confused, I was still very sure that he was it.
“I’m Dylan, and you look and seem like a nice girl, but why don’t you tell me the truth,” he says.
“I’m telling you the truth Dylan,” I say with another sob.
“It’s Sir for you and tell me the truth, did you hear the announcement?” he says in a firm voice.
“No, I didn’t hear the TV for the last three days,” I say honestly.
“And why not?” he asks me next.
“Because… uhh… because I didn’t want to see William,” I confess, he scared me, he terrified me.
“I told him that the killing was unasked for,” he groans shaking his head.
“What did he say on the announcement?” I ask him, just to be sure what I have missed.
“He said little miss that all humans who have been through the test are to get on the busses by ten am and be brought over,” he says.
“Why?” I ask him terrified, to be killed there? Maybe it’s better that I stayed away, I didn’t want to be killed.
“You’re not in danger, but you were on the street in a very dangerous time, if one of the rebels got to you before we did, do you know what would have happened to you?” he asked me and I shook my head no with fear.
“I don’t think you’re a rebel, I don’t believe you’re a danger to us, I believe you’re a girl who wasn’t listening,” he says.
“I’m sorry, I’d listen,” I say with tears going down my face, I didn’t want to be killed or be thrown back into the cell, I didn’t want to get anywhere near them.
“You’re going to listen,” he says and I nod, of course, I would listen.
“We shouldn’t expect children to listen on their own, you need a push right,” he says and I shook my head no, I was good.
“You’re going to stay here with us for a while until we decide what to do with you,” he says.
“No please, I want to go home,” I beg him, I just wanted to get back home, I’ll turn the TV on.
“You can call this place home for a bit until we decide what to do with you,” he says.
“No please, I want to go home,” I cry out again, feeling like a stupid child.
“Angel, as my brother explained, well you would have known if you turned the tv on, but William explained that we’re much older than you humans, we’ve been alive since before the nuclear war, it’s cause of us that some of you humans have survived, you’re all children compared to us,” Dylan explains and my mouth fell open.
“How old are you…” I ask but then I remembered to add “Sir,”
“I’m over seven hundred years old,” he answers me.
“Do you know how old William is?” I asked him next, I have managed to stop crying, and I’m having a chat with a vampire that’s going to force me to stay here until he decides otherwise.
“I’m not allowed to say, but he’s a lot older than me,” he whispers to me and I can’t help my mouth fall open, wow, I had a crush on him.
