Angel POV.
I turned the TV off, and I decided that I didn’t want to watch anymore, I didn’t want to see William or hear him talk about killing us, about him being in charge and everything, I decided it was best to just ignore the TV for a while, not to hear it, but I was running low on money and supplies, and I didn’t know where life was going next, maybe I should go to my old work and pray to god I haven’t gotten kicked out.
I decided that I should try, I should get ready and go, I still got my car, and I knew the way there, nothing wrong with trying, worse case scenario is I get told off and I go back home and start searching for another job. I got ready to get to work, I wore my fancier clothes, brushed my hair and even tried to style it, if I had to beg back for my work I wanted to be able to do it with style, once I was ready, I sprayed some perfume and left the house, I got into my car and started the long drive toward my old job.
The roads were empty, and there were hardly any cars around here, I kept on driving, I didn’t know what to expect, my last day at work was met with the whole attack, I remember the way I had to run away, are the vampires still here? Maybe I can tell them I know William, the cold-hearted killer who killed a guy right on air and then sat down without a second thought.
The drive was really long, was it always this long? I could put some music on, but I was too worried to turn on the music, I couldn’t hear anything, just the pounding of my heart inside my ears, maybe I could hit the accelerator, I’d get there faster, but do I really want to get there faster, I was terrified of getting there, of what’s going to wait for me there.
I finally made it there, it took me more than an hour, but I made it there, I finally got there, I walked out of my car, I parked my car right in front of the door, I didn’t have to park very back, there’s some cars here, but where these cars still here from last time? Or did they leave and come back? Was there anyone here, I wasn’t sure, I walked inside the door and looked around the receptionist wasn’t there, and there was no one for me to talk to, so I walked right in, I went toward my floor, I could tell right away that this place has been abandoned since the day that we were under the attack, the chairs were thrown everywhere, the tables were messed up, doors left open, this whole place was still under the attack, and it scared me, it scared the crap out of me when I saw the blood marks on the ground.
I ran back out, I ran as fast as I could, I got inside the car turned it back on, and hit the accelerator back home, I turned the music on the time, I didn’t want to hear the silence or to the beat of my heart, I drove as fast as possible, I left the company behind and went back to the safety of my home, now that I knew everything was messed up and over, I looked at the street, I really looked this time. All the buildings were messed up, the signs were down, and I could tell some places were shut close with wooden panels, this wasn’t the normal city I worked in, this was the city after war, a war that I didn’t want anything to do with, I drove even faster, I’m usually a good driver, I’m usually a very stable driver, I don’t drive like a crazy person, I don’t try to kill anyone on my way or die by mistake, but today was different, today was the day that all I wanted to do was go back home.
I kept on driving but then I heard a car coming from behind me, I was terrified of the other car who might it be? I kept on driving at the same speed, but then I heard the police siren from behind me, was this the real police? Or maybe I’m in trouble, I felt tears starting to gather in my eyes, I was going to die, all that due to this stupid drive, I shouldn’t have even tried.
“Stop the car,” the policeman says, but what if he’s not human, what if he kills me as well?
“No,” I whine with tears starting to fall down my face, I am terrified now.
“Stop the car, or we’ll be forced to make you stop,” the police said and I was terrified, I actually pulled to the side, I wasn’t sure if this is a real thing or something else, I stayed in the car, but I pulled to the side, and then a guy wearing police uniform came toward my window.
“You’re going over two hundred in an eighty-max zone,” he scolds me, I turned to him with my teary eyes.
“I’m sorry,” I say with more tears going down my face, the guy’s face went from firm and angry to soft, and he took off his sunglasses showing off his blue eyes, they were deep, the deepest blue I have ever scene, but it got me, I felt like my heart was ready to melt.
“Now sugar, what are you doing here?” he asks me.
“I’m going home,” I confess.
“Why were you going that fast?” he asked me with a raised brow.
“I’m scared, I wanna get home,” I say looking down at my hands over the steering wheel, I’m still shaking with fear.
“Why did you leave home to begin with, don’t you know it’s better to just stay there?” he asks me next.
“I was curious,” I confess.
“Curious to what? Did you have your test taken?” he asks me.
“Yeah, I did,” I confess, I did that just the day before yesterday, or was it two days ago, I wasn’t sure, but it hasn’t been that long.
“What’s your name?” he asked me, and I gave him my full name.
“You sure as hell look like an angel,” he said with a smile and I glared at him, I hate that comment, I’m not an angel, I was named after a stripper, and I hate my name.
“I need you to turn the car off,” he orders and I do that, turning the key the other way.
He went back toward his car and searched my name up, I don’t know what he was looking at, but he sure found out what he wanted, he came back toward me with a soft smile again.
“Now Miss Angel, you look like a nice girl, your sheet is clean, and I know you must be terrified the whole world is changing around you, but it’s changing for the better, you got my word on that,” he says and I nod, so what is he? I looked at his mouth trying to catch a glimpse of his teeth trying to guess what he really is.
“I’m a vampire, and my eyes are up here,” he scolds, he’s talking to me as if I’m a child, I prefer that over being treated like a pray or a criminal.
“Yes?” I say out loud.
“Where were you?” he asked me, and I wasn’t sure how to answer that.
“I went to check my work, no one told me if I should come back or not,” I confess.
“You shouldn’t, the world is changing and wherever you were working, it’s not going to be there anymore,” he says and I nod.
“Where do you live?” he asks me next.
“Another thirty-minute drive,” I answer him.
“That’s a long distance for you to drive on your own, especially with the speed you’re going in,” he says.
“I’ll drive slower,” I answer him.
“Nope, I don’t trust you to go alone,” he says and I turn red, am I going to get arrested, I didn’t want to get arrested.
“But, I don’t want to go to jail,” I say on the verge of going through another mental breakdown.
“You’re not going there, I’m going to drive you home, I’ll be your escort,” he says, I never had any interaction with the police before, let alone be escorted home by one.
“I can make it home alone,” I assure him.
“Nope, it’s not safe for you to drive there alone, I’m going to drive you there, just to make sure you’re safe,” the guy says, I shook my head no, but he nodded.
“Come on, start driving, I’m going to get you home,” he says and I couldn’t and wouldn’t dare to say no to him.
