Chapter 44

Blake put the phone down with a grin on his face after talking with Stacy’s brother on Tuesday. He looked up at the wall clock on the wall in front of him and stifled a yawn. It was one hour after the closing hour and he was unusually tired. It was understandable though, he’d been having back-to-back meetings for two days.
“I think I need to head home and take some rest this evening,” he leaned back in his leather chair and swirled around for a few seconds before sitting upright again.
“Oh dear,” he stifled another yawn and was in the process of logging out of the company’s database when there was a knock on the door and Vanessa walked in.
“Derek Lawson is on the line,” the older woman said, a hint of curiosity in her voice. “He insisted he had to speak with you now. Do you have any deal with him?”
Blake was curious too. “The same Derek Lawson?” Blake asked, his brow furrowed in confusion. Though they had known each other for years, their paths hadn’t crossed in a while. Blake couldn’t quite figure out why Derek would be calling him, especially at this hour.
“Yeah, the same Derek Lawson,” Vanessa confirmed. “He said he would call back in three minutes.”
“Alright,” Blake replied. “Pull the call through to me when he does.”
“Okay, Mr. Carter,” Vanessa said and returned to her office.
The phone on Blake’s desk shrieked a minute after. He picked up the phone and spoke at once.
“Derek.”
“Yeah, Derek Lawson on the line,” the other man’s voice boomed into the phone. “I hope you had a good day.”
Blake said nothing.
Sensing Blake was not in the mood for pleasantries, Derek went straight to the point.
“Blake, I hope this doesn’t bother you, but I thought it would be a great idea if we meet over dinner.”
“Dinner?” Blake was confused.
“Yeah dinner,” Derek cleared his throat. “I just found out that we are both interested in that rundown factory downtown.”
Blake said nothing at first. He felt like someone just knocked the air out of him. To the best of his knowledge, their company was the only one bidding to buy that factory.
“Are you still there?” Derek asked, his voice filled with sarcasm. “I mean, Clinton Limited.”
“Yes, I am listening.”
“I think we could benefit from discussing our plans and strategies,” Derek explained. There was an edge to his voice, indicating he was happy to have caught Blake unawares.
“I don’t think we have anything to discuss, Mr. Derek Lawson. Blake was not amused by this turn of event and he wasn’t going to be a coward. “I appreciate your interest, but I’ve been pursuing this deal for quite some time, and I don’t think it’s appropriate for you to just barge in and try to take it over,” Blake said, trying to hide his irritation.
“Let’s at least meet for dinner and discuss…”
“Derek, I appreciate your offer, but no. I’ve got nothing to discuss with you” Blake said, sounding confident and assertive. “If you don’t mind, I was in the middle of something important when your call came in. Have a good night.”
He cut off the line. Blake’s anger boiled over as he slammed the phone down. He was so annoyed by Derek’s condescending manner of speaking.
Blake took a moment to collect himself. He sat back down in his seat, trying to catch his breath for a minute before he reached for the phone again to dial Nathan, their head of legal unit office. It was Nathan’s secretary that answered the call. She told him he just left for home.
“Okay thanks Ava,” he replied and cut off the line. He decided to discard his earlier plan of going home right away. He knew he had a lot to think about and plan for the next steps in the Clinton Limited deal.
He dialed Nathan’s cell phone and he answered immediately.
“Hi Blake,” Nathan said. “Is everything alright?”
“Not quite,” he moved to the edge of his seat. “I think you have to head back to the office. We have a situation at hand.”
“What is it about?”
“Clinton Limited,” he replied. “We have to prepare all necessary documents tonight. So we could start the payment process in the morning.”
“We haven’t reviewed all the necessary documents,” Nathan groaned.
“Just turn back,” Blake insisted. “We will do as much as we can today.”
“If you say so,” Nathan said dejectedly.
“Yeah,” Blake ran his hand through his hair. “I’ll be expecting you.”
His dad was not around, so it was only his father-in-law he had to consult with on the matter.”
He packed up to go and see him and decided to stop by at Stacy’s office on his way.
“Hey,” he plopped down on the chair in front of her.
“You look flustered,” Stacy remarked, looking at his face with worry.
“Yes, I am,” he responded and told her about Derek Lawson’s call.
“How dare he!” She became furious too. “How can he be so presumptuous, thinking he could talk you over for the deal.” She hissed. “He must be really out of his mind.”
“I already called Nathan to come back to the office right away.” He told her. “We have to kickstart the payment process tonight.”
“I think that’s better,” she said and jerked forward in her seat. “Oh, my God!” she groaned, her hands balled up into fists.
“Are you okay?” Blake was on his feet in a jiffy. “What’s wrong?”
“I think it’s something I ate,” she stood up. “I need to use the bathroom.
“Oh dear, sorry about that,” he said, rubbing her back.
Stacy rushed to the bathroom, praying he would not come with her.
He didn’t.
She leaned her back against the wall as another slice of orgasm hit her from the egg vibrator Jake had inserted in her earlier in the afternoon.
She flushed the toilet and came out after she had controlled herself.
“Do you feel better now?” Blake asked, standing up.
“Yeah,” she flashed him a smile, “thanks, I feel better now after using the toilet.”
“I can go now,” he hugged her and kissed her on the mouth. “When are you going home?”
“Hmmm,” she checked her wristwatch. “Maybe in an hour or two, Jake and I want to go over the handover notes he’s leaving behind.”
It was Jake’s last day at work, a little party was thrown for him during lunch hour.
“Okay, later,” he said. “I will see you later.”
